So last night as i am digging through my gear and setting stuff aside for track use, I think to myself, Self(because this is what I call myself is Self), maybe i should start wearing my dogtags again. I mean they do have pertinent information in the event of mishap...
Name, Social Security Number, Blood Type, Religious affiliation...
Then I notice my Teknic Speedstar gloves have a spot inside the gauntlet that lets me write my name and blood type. I thought this was really cool and yet somewhat disturbing...
Anyway. Just a random thought as i prepare for my first few track days after 11 years of not being on a track.
Not a bad idea. I've always wondered where the best place to put my health insurance card would be. I want to make sure there is no delay in care.
might as well get a high-tech one

Always put mine in the inside pocket of my leathers. Doubt there would be any delay in
emergency care, though.
I believe Mario (Grifo) wears a wristband with all of his pertinent information.
I know there is also a company that sells something in the form of a sticker you can slap on your helmet
you can also have a dog tag made at most pet stores (yes, like what you pooch wears)
probably a bit cheaper than the ICE tags....and the EMT doesnt need to be able to read USB info
better still, here is a DIY kit that they offer
http://www.ice4safety.com/diy.html (http://www.ice4safety.com/diy.html)
Is there a protocol in the EMS industry that trains medics to look for certain information on victims?
Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and I raced, leathers came with a tiny, credit-card sized pocket right up at the neck designed for a medical info card.
Maybe it's a just Vanson thing, but it always made sense to me...
Haha, I've had much more disturbing thoughts regarding riding.
All I have to do is close my eyes... and twist my wrist...
Yeah... I've depression issues sometimes.

That would only be helpful if they knew the info was on the inside of your glove. When the EMT's expose you, they'll see dogtags...
Yeah...I am going with both though.
I also thought about having the info tattooed on my chest and ass...you know. Just in case. ;D

Some of my buddies have that. It's called a meat tag....

Yup, that's what he called it to now that you mention it
Kind o morbid and a bt off topic but when I was in the Army, I kept one dogtag on the chain around my neck and another in my boot laces. Just in case...

+1 Since I am often many states away from home, when I ride, I wear a dogtag I made at a pet store. It has my name, DOB, allergies, and my sister's telephone number.
Don't bother with blood type - this isn't like the old days where any pint'll do. That, and they won't take your word for it anyway.

NO. ICE is a fine idea, but EMS does not look. We don't care either. If you can talk, no need for putting the info anywhere. If you are unconscience, airway, breathing and circulation take precedent to wasting time looking for useless info. We don't need to know your blood type or who to call. We would be busy trying to keep you alive or get you alive again.
At some point the hospital will need to know who you are. A drivers license has that. If a cell phone survives, someone may look at that at some point.
we just go through your wallet...
What about those of us that don't ride with a wallet on our person? Mines in the tank bag since my leathers have no pockets.

i do that whenever i see somebody on the side of the road too.
(gotta pay tuition somehow)
[laugh]
I just found my tags about 2 weeks ago. I was thinking about putting one on my Duc key/chain but if I lost my keys..someone would have my SSN.
tank bags are a poor location.
They rarely stay with the bike
and
with all the debris it might not get found.
In pocketless leathers, your ID and and needed info on a card in a break-away lanyard around your neck would be a good location.
Avoid putting them in gloves and boots, they come off on impact sometimes.
Medic-alert tags are always a good idea.
Even more disturbing..
anyone have a note to loved one(s) in their bike/wallet..
as a just-in-case-sh*t-happens?
I thought this was a good but morbid idea and was going to post it up awhile back but never wanted to jinx anyone's ride.
:-X
How about this (http://www.meds.org/mcyclehelmet.php)?

No, but on the comments section of my organ donor card it says "

how much do we need to worry about the tings in our pockets? Will a antenna on the phone puncture me when in a crash? Will dogtags puncture if flipped at the right angle?
something on the outside sounds safer (unless you macadam surf it off) or soft and folded (as long as it's waterproof).
we also give the info to someone else at the track, but that's not foolproof.
"If you are unconscience, airway, breathing and circulation take precedent to wasting time looking for useless info. We don't need to know your blood type or who to call. We would be busy trying to keep you alive or get you alive again." [thumbsup] sounds like we worry for nothing......

Yes, I wear this and my Army dog tags:

One of my riding buddies uses this:
http://www.meds.org/mcyclehelmet.php (http://www.meds.org/mcyclehelmet.php)
My keys didn't puncture my leg in my crash. The Ducati business card holder in my other pocket did however conform to the shape of my thigh...
good to know.
I don't agree with that comment laura.
if you have pertinent medical info, we need to know it. as well as who you are.
so even though ABC's do take precident, someone is still going to look for ID and any medical info we can find
I think I need to get busy. Dolph
Mother, you looking out for one of your subjects? [laugh]
zltfl - thanks for bringing up the discussion.
I realized that since I have new riding gear, I don't take my wallet on rides. (too bulky) just carried money, drivers license and insurance info. Totally blanked on the medical card.
I really like the bracelet. does it come in pink?
I keed. I keed.
me? nah, transport has changed in the last 10 years, we are much more about billing and lawsuit proof paperwork than patient care...

And in nursing, which is why I'll be going part-time as a nurse soon and will start working more as a respiratory therapist until I figure out what my next career is gonna be. I'm tired of patient (family) satisfaction surverys being more important than healing people.
