Title: De-cowling Monster 1100?
Post by: ducturd on May 06, 2009, 09:54:53 PM
Curious, has any removed the plastic undercowling from their Monster 1100 yet? I'm itching to, just haven't figured out where the voltage regulator would go. Anyone know exposing the oil lines coming out the left of the oil cooler would be a problem?

Exactly!

Got the can off and the euro-left side cover. But that plastic down there needs to go. I had removed it on my old 696 and had no problem relocating the voltage regulator. That area is more crowded on the 1100 with the oil cooler. I'm going to take a further look.

You might be crafty and just move the regulator all together. I like to post pics of Spidey's bike wiring any chance I get, because, well, I'm incredibly jealous. Under my tank, a medusa head appears.

Behold, my favorite part of Spidey's bike:

nowhere NEAR that sort of room under the 696/1100 seat. maybe where the tool tray is, but i doubt the regulator wiring is long enough to reach there. it's gonna have to go under the airbox or maybe in the tank skins on the side.

+1 (but then I wasn't asked for my opinion)

I think Ryanracer runs a 696 with an oilcooler and no cowl......

I spent some time this afternoon removing the canister and cowling on my 1100 and I too am stumped for a place to relocate the voltage regulator.  Has anyone come up with anything?

I just pulled the fairing off my 696 and fabricated a bracket out of a small piece of aluminum sheet to hang the reg from the oil cooler brackets (not used on the 696).  Perhaps something similar would work in the 1100? Just piggy back the voltage reg on top of the top part of the cooler?

Ill post pictures when I get home from work tomorrow morning.

I mounted mine where the horn is mounted. moved the horn to the top mount where the cooler would mount and bent the mounting plate 90 deg.
