Title: Pretty pissed off at direct TV right now
Post by: He Man on May 16, 2009, 09:24:59 PM
im enrolled on online bill pay and they jsut swiped $400 off my credit card because one of their receivers was damaged ( i pay rental fees for them) and they charged $300 bucks to replace it even when i was very specifically told it was free, and a $100 service charge to replace it.

Shit like this and no versus channel is geting me pissed of. Is there anyway I can break the contract? I just called them up and they said they cant help me because their computers are down.

Keep at it!  They've tried to d*ck me around a couple times but we've always been able to get our way.  I've had them since '02 and generally satisfied.  Like I said though..sometimes you have to hassle with them.

Yes, for the most part.

Although, I am watching a pretty good special on South Korea right now.

Crazy seeing these South Korean soldiers on the border standing in a TKD position with fists clenched and ready for a fight with the North!

Oh boy don't start me on direcTv. I don't know how they are still in business they way they operate that company. At your current rate it may be cheaper to break the contract than wait it out.

and I was thinking of switching to DirecTV over Time Warner Cable. Is it really that bad?

Doh!  We are getting direct TV today. Time Warner has screwed us over beyond belief. We moved into a smaller house a month ago and since that time we have received 6 different bills from them, all for different amounts. Go online to check our account and it shows we owe nothing. Call customer service and they have no idea why we have so many different bills for the same month but we still must pay them. Our balance was paid in full before we moved. So we said make the beast with two backs them and are going with Direct TV. We now owe time Warner over 400 bucks for one month of service. We kept our old equipment and just moved it into the new house. Wtf?

I've been a happy DirecTV customer since '01.

I have Versus too.

I watch very little tv - some HBO series and lots of hockey. I pay a crazy amount to be able to get every single hockey game and I do watch most of them. TWC screws it up anyway by blacking out channels that DirecTV and Dish Network both run here.

i only watch sports, NFL and NHL, but i dont get versus so i dont get to watch playoffs ( i stream it from hockeystreams online) and NFL is free anyway.
otherthen that, i cant say i watch much more TV then that.

eitherway, i just called them up, they credited my account for the INSANE service charge. and the reason i got charged another $300 is because FedEx doesnt want to come pick up the reciever at the hours i asked them to. So once school is over i need to go on the hunt for a fedex guy (they RARELY come around this neck of the woods) just to send this thing out.

I cannot wait for the contract to be over. I just dont like TV in general, if free over the air tv worked in my area, id be good with that. i can go to bars to watch NHL.

DirecTv refused to come out and fix their dish after it had been installed for 4 monthes without a service charge, or me buying insurance. I assured them the problem was an installation one. They still refused. I told them they were idiots because I was gonna switch and 6 monthes from now they'd give me a bunch of free stuff and come out to install it for free but they wouldn't send a tech now to tighten some bolts and make sure it was aimed right. Nope sorry, no fee no service.

Fine cancel my contract. Done.... is there anything we can do to get your business back sir? Um, yeah, you could have sent a tech out for 15 minutes. make the beast with two backs you guys I'm out.

With-in the month I was recieving letters and offers to come back and all the free stuff they'd give me for signing up.

Switched to dish, no problems with them, then I went back to renting and no antenna's so I'm with Cable-One, not as fond of it as the Dish, less DVR memory space and the channels are meh. But it's not DirecTv.

If FIOS is available in your area tell them you are going to switch. IF not say Time Warner. All these companies are really afraid. FIOS is taking soo much of their business. The only thing Direct TV has going for them is their rediculously expensive $400 HD football package.

ive been dhying to have fios but as is the norm to brooklyn, theres territories that the big companies fight over.

Verizon FIOS is availble on 39th street 3rd ave, but not on 40th street 4th ave. litterally 2 blocks away. its ridiculous.

I would call your bank and tell them you didn't authorize that charge. You didn't, you only authorized the regular monthly charge right?
Title: Re: Pretty pissed off at direct TV right now
Post by: He Man on May 17, 2009, 02:45:23 PM
depends on how you look at it....

im enrolled on online bill pay, so it automatically tkaes the bill out of my credit card. To say i authorized it is two sided. Yea i did, if you count the cost of the reciever and the "service fee" (which they alreayd refunded) as part of the bill, then its legit, if you count it as extra, then no. but im sure the fine print in there allows them to do so. just like paypal is able to freeze your assest and pull all the funds straight out of your bank account. which reminds me, i need to make a new account. just for paypal.

ontop of all this, i had to get her to refund me the tax on the service charge and the receiver. annoying bullcrap.

I've got direct TV.  It seems to go up every month or two or three.  A little here, a little there.  Then we had a wind storm and I didn't get HD channels anymore.  I called them and they said $50 to come and reset the dish.  WTF?   So I called and ordered the monthly $5.99 maintenance contract, a week later called and said no HD, they came and fixed it free, and then canceled the maintenance contract, for a $10 service charge, for a net savings of $34.00

But this morning, there was 250 and then big bore MOTOGP, then the Rolex Sports car series from Laguna Seca live, and then Thunder Valley NHRA Drag Racing, where our Funny Car driver WON!!!

Of course, the Dragster driver went out in the second round, but at least F/C won.

But basically, I pay quite a bit of money for a lot of paid programming channels, and a pretty mediocre choice of viewing.   I usually just watch all the forensics shows, I think I could actually get away with it if I really had to.

They were trying to get me on the service contract too. I told them to shove it and I wouldn't pay anything on the principle of it. I wasn't out there throwing basketballs at the damn dish. It was messed up because half the bolts were loose on the damn thing. It was an installation problem and I wasn't paying a dime.

But if I cancel they would come out and install a new dish for free, and give me a bunch of new stuff, WTF how about keeping the customers you already have?  Did I mention that said dish completely FELL off the roof a week later? Yeah all I had to do was cut the cable and toss the damn thing in the recycle box. Never even had to get on the roof.

Weird.  I've got 7 years of good experiences with DirecTV.  A couple summers ago, I suddenly had trouble picking up a usable signal.  I worked and worked one it, I usually never have trouble aiming a dish, even my triple-LNB dish.  They sent someone out, listed the services as a "move" so it was a free visit.  Technician hooked his little tuner to the dish, looked at me, looked at his tuner, said "You know what you're doing with the dish, something else is the problem." Turns out my HD receiver was having trouble.  Sold me a new HD receiver for $99 (if I contracted to keep their service for a year) and reminded me they were hiring technicians in my area.  Haven't had any other trouble.  My service package as increased only once in the 7 years I've had their service.  It went from $52 to $58 (post taxes & fees).

I've had great experiences as well 90% of the time and the other 10% was handled by less than 2 phone calls per incident.  I've been a customer since 2002.

Twice over that time I gave cable another shot due to some "special" they were running (both times the cable service was "free" because of the internet package I have).   In both cases - I got fewer channels, less DVR capability and within 60 days the supposed free service disappeared (despite the signed agreement) and full billing began.  After numerous calls and escalations both were worked out and service was discontinued.

From a customer service standpoint the Directv reps and process is exponentially better than Comcast, Time Warner or Cox.  I still have to deal with Cable due to the Internet service and it's a terrible experience until you escalate to at least Level 2 support.

Do you realize you can drop a pre-paid FEDEX package at Kinko's or US Postal Office?

I've had DirecTV for about 5 years...not a single complaint. Very good channel selection and good service. I had to threaten to leave to get it, but they gave me a DVR/HD upgrade for free a few months ago. They also just sent a mini DVD player as a thanks for being a customer gift. Weird how experiences vary so much. Comcast Cable on the other hand were a bunch of friggin' morons, and the channel selection was pathetic.

Sucks about your problem though.  :-\

USPS and FedEx partnered up in 2002 or 2003.

I think FedEx carries some mail for the USPS

DTV pissed me off one day when I called to ask about a double charge for the same movie.

I was = bad mood.  Told the pregnant dog to shut the thing off NOW.  They did.

3 hours later I got a call back from customer retention department.  Gave me a 350$ credit, 40$ per month credit off my bill, and all the premium channels for 6 months free.  That was 9 months ago.

Next month I'll have to once again start paying for DTV  [thumbsup] [laugh]

Are you returning something that they are letting you borrow?
Tell them to come pick it up. You are not holding it against their will, so it's not theft. If they want it, they can come get it.
make the beast with two backss.

already tried that. i rent their device, they sent a box to come pick it up, and i told them, why couldnt you just taken it with you?  they said they dont do that, and now i dont have the money to pay the credit card bill but (begin sarcasm) thats okay, i have 400 make the beast with two backsing direct tv credits.

the drop boxs near my house says fedex express packages only, this one is a ground. also the authorized locations want 10 bucks to take a prepaid. and the nearest one isnt picking up their phone ( given the location on mapquest, i have money the fact that this palce closed down a long time ago) and the nearest one is in downtown broolkyn and traffic doenst look fun right now :(

Don't sign up for automatic bill pay to anyone.  ever.

In the end it only benefits the pay-ee and the pay-er just gets it in the end.

add Cablevision to the list....   since they own MSG, they don't allow any of the other carriers to get the MSG channel in HD, which really blows if you don't have Cablevision and like to watch the Rangers/Devils/Knicks...   and Islanders, but who watches them?
