I would call your bank and tell them you didn't authorize that charge. You didn't, you only authorized the regular monthly charge right?

depends on how you look at it....

im enrolled on online bill pay, so it automatically tkaes the bill out of my credit card. To say i authorized it is two sided. Yea i did, if you count the cost of the reciever and the "service fee" (which they alreayd refunded) as part of the bill, then its legit, if you count it as extra, then no. but im sure the fine print in there allows them to do so. just like paypal is able to freeze your assest and pull all the funds straight out of your bank account. which reminds me, i need to make a new account. just for paypal.

ontop of all this, i had to get her to refund me the tax on the service charge and the receiver. annoying bullcrap.

I've got direct TV.  It seems to go up every month or two or three.  A little here, a little there.  Then we had a wind storm and I didn't get HD channels anymore.  I called them and they said $50 to come and reset the dish.  WTF?   So I called and ordered the monthly $5.99 maintenance contract, a week later called and said no HD, they came and fixed it free, and then canceled the maintenance contract, for a $10 service charge, for a net savings of $34.00

But this morning, there was 250 and then big bore MOTOGP, then the Rolex Sports car series from Laguna Seca live, and then Thunder Valley NHRA Drag Racing, where our Funny Car driver WON!!!

Of course, the Dragster driver went out in the second round, but at least F/C won.

But basically, I pay quite a bit of money for a lot of paid programming channels, and a pretty mediocre choice of viewing.   I usually just watch all the forensics shows, I think I could actually get away with it if I really had to.

They were trying to get me on the service contract too. I told them to shove it and I wouldn't pay anything on the principle of it. I wasn't out there throwing basketballs at the damn dish. It was messed up because half the bolts were loose on the damn thing. It was an installation problem and I wasn't paying a dime.

But if I cancel they would come out and install a new dish for free, and give me a bunch of new stuff, WTF how about keeping the customers you already have?  Did I mention that said dish completely FELL off the roof a week later? Yeah all I had to do was cut the cable and toss the damn thing in the recycle box. Never even had to get on the roof.

Weird.  I've got 7 years of good experiences with DirecTV.  A couple summers ago, I suddenly had trouble picking up a usable signal.  I worked and worked one it, I usually never have trouble aiming a dish, even my triple-LNB dish.  They sent someone out, listed the services as a "move" so it was a free visit.  Technician hooked his little tuner to the dish, looked at me, looked at his tuner, said "You know what you're doing with the dish, something else is the problem." Turns out my HD receiver was having trouble.  Sold me a new HD receiver for $99 (if I contracted to keep their service for a year) and reminded me they were hiring technicians in my area.  Haven't had any other trouble.  My service package as increased only once in the 7 years I've had their service.  It went from $52 to $58 (post taxes & fees).

I've had great experiences as well 90% of the time and the other 10% was handled by less than 2 phone calls per incident.  I've been a customer since 2002.

Twice over that time I gave cable another shot due to some "special" they were running (both times the cable service was "free" because of the internet package I have).   In both cases - I got fewer channels, less DVR capability and within 60 days the supposed free service disappeared (despite the signed agreement) and full billing began.  After numerous calls and escalations both were worked out and service was discontinued.

From a customer service standpoint the Directv reps and process is exponentially better than Comcast, Time Warner or Cox.  I still have to deal with Cable due to the Internet service and it's a terrible experience until you escalate to at least Level 2 support.

So once school is over i need to go on the hunt for a fedex guy (they RARELY come around this neck of the woods) just to send this thing out.

Do you realize you can drop a pre-paid FEDEX package at Kinko's or US Postal Office?

I've had DirecTV for about 5 years...not a single complaint. Very good channel selection and good service. I had to threaten to leave to get it, but they gave me a DVR/HD upgrade for free a few months ago. They also just sent a mini DVD player as a thanks for being a customer gift. Weird how experiences vary so much. Comcast Cable on the other hand were a bunch of friggin' morons, and the channel selection was pathetic.

Sucks about your problem though.  :-\

USPS and FedEx partnered up in 2002 or 2003.

I think FedEx carries some mail for the USPS

DTV pissed me off one day when I called to ask about a double charge for the same movie.

I was = bad mood.  Told the pregnant dog to shut the thing off NOW.  They did.

3 hours later I got a call back from customer retention department.  Gave me a 350$ credit, 40$ per month credit off my bill, and all the premium channels for 6 months free.  That was 9 months ago.

Next month I'll have to once again start paying for DTV  [thumbsup] [laugh]

Are you returning something that they are letting you borrow?
Tell them to come pick it up. You are not holding it against their will, so it's not theft. If they want it, they can come get it.

the drop boxs near my house says fedex express packages only, this one is a ground. also the authorized locations want 10 bucks to take a prepaid. and the nearest one isnt picking up their phone ( given the location on mapquest, i have money the fact that this palce closed down a long time ago) and the nearest one is in downtown broolkyn and traffic doenst look fun right now :(
