Title: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Grug on May 18, 2009, 09:04:57 PM At the corner of Burke and Doncaster Roads (the edge of Kew and North Balwyn). He was on an older Monster I think, black with a bronze frame. I gave him a nod as I rode past but I didn't get a nod back :'(

Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: DosVerde on May 19, 2009, 02:41:44 AM Yeah, the nod is a bit hit and miss these days. I remember when everyone on a bike nodded .....I sound like an old man whinging...
I do get more nod's when I'm on the Duc as opposed to the old kwaka 250, bloody snobs. Don't worry Grug, I'll nod if I see ya. Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: goldFiSh on May 19, 2009, 02:47:51 AM I'm a big fan of the nod. Shit, I even nod scooters and harley riders, we're all on two wheels!
Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: ptooey on May 19, 2009, 03:28:24 AM Speaking of which, were any of you chaps riding away from Box Hill Town Hall on a White S4R, where the Japanese Festival was last Sunday?
Aaand pretty much at the same time also spotted a red MTS riding with pillion. Any DMFers? Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Grug on May 19, 2009, 06:15:29 AM Dang, and here I was thinking us Duc riders were such a friendly lot! [laugh] Well at least now I know that DMFers will always say hello!
Don't worry Grug, I'll nod if I see ya. Cheers! [thumbsup] grug if you want have a laugh to your self wave like buggery to the harley riders some will nod but a lot will try and look the other way causeing them to wobble up the road [laugh] I actually got a big thumbsup from a Harley Rider a couple of weeks ago. I was proud as punch! ;D though in the last week (since I got off my learners and on to my licence) I've noticed that I get a lot less kudos for riding the 600 now, than I did when the L-plates were still hanging off the back... I'm half tempted to put them back on! Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: vossy on May 19, 2009, 05:47:24 PM I think the nod thing is a funny observation.
Here in Sth Aust I find that 75% of non cruiser riders nod to each other, but I cannot remember ever having a cruiser rider whether it be a Harley or a Jap cruiser give me the nod. Maybe they just nod to each other........ But for me I nod to every bike rider, and If I get a nod back so be it. I don't get hung up on the issue. Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: mattyvas on May 19, 2009, 11:31:32 PM I'm one for the nod, as Goldie said we're all on two wheels.
Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: heatherp on May 20, 2009, 01:24:00 AM I had some crazy bus driver in the middle of Melbourne this morning just about jumping out of his seat waving to me whilst we were stopped at traffic lights. Wanted me to blip the throttle. From his charades I'm assuming that he rides himself. Couldn't really tell if he has a duc or just admires them but he was certainly excited.
Also had a bike rider wave from across the paddock on the other side of the freeway too. Strange as I've just about given up waving to other riders. If I wave they don't wave back then if I don't wave they do!!! Maybe anybody on a bike today was just enjoying the glorious weather. It was so good I took a two hour detour from the normal 3 hour ride home and went round Mount Macedon, Daylesford and the Grampians to get home. ;D [moto] Felt sorry for the suckers at work. Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Spider on May 22, 2009, 02:52:36 AM maybe he had a REALLY heavy helmet!
(Dos used to have one that he gave to the navy to use as an anchor) I'll nod mate.... just ride by the cafe whilst I sit there in leathers make Broom Broom noises! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Betty on May 31, 2009, 11:12:29 PM Ahh the nod.
Gets a bit tricky when you pass a string of bikes with your head bobbin' up and down [laugh] After one good day out I got return nods from two separate Harley riders on the way home ... knew I was having a good day then. Just be careful if you jump in the car after going for a ride ... I find myself nodding to riders as I drive past in the car [roll] Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Spider on May 31, 2009, 11:35:11 PM I wave...whilst on the pushy....sometimes I even sit up and give a clap...like the bloke at Tooronga/Malvern a few Sundays ago....on the desmoseidecici.
[clap] Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: DUCMONROB on June 01, 2009, 01:12:26 AM I think the nod thing is a funny observation. I occasionally cross the line to the Harley side and when I ride the 300 kilo lump I mostly get the nod from other cruser riders but not the sport bike fraternity. When I get back onto the Monster I mostly get the nod from sport bike riders and nothing from the cruser fraternity. SAME BLOKE DIFFERENT BIKE! [moto] It is like there is code of silence like 'They are the enimy'. Go fugure! Rob [bacon] Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: stopintime on June 01, 2009, 01:30:06 AM In my country we use the "cool" wave, at least outside the cities - the hand leaves the bars, out to the side.
It's considered a must and we use it to signal that the road is clear ( [leo] + animals, oil, road work, ... ) We have some, but very few, cruiser/sport issues. Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Spider on June 01, 2009, 03:46:09 AM ah, I remember my first cool wave.....near Healesville / Black Spur...Beamer rider....got me thinking.....ride a BMW anyway out of the city and it looks like you've just come in from the Sampson desert...you could live down the road and are just picking up your porn from the post office...still you look EPIC on a 1200gs.
of course, in town, you look like a range rover driver.....fresh from Toorak/Vaclause (is that right Sydney-siders?)....that you've attempted to buy 'adventure' instead of live it...poor lost soul of consumerism.... I dunno, there's a bloke around my area with a GS, not sure if it's the 800 or the 1200, but he rides around with those hardcore panniers on the sides - and it still looks epic even if he's just popping down to the shops to pick up some milk! [laugh] I had my second OZ monster siting yesterday actually! Saw a white 696 turning off Doncaster Rd. on to the Eastern Freeway (city bound). Title: Re: Saw my first fellow Oz Monster today... Post by: Spider on June 03, 2009, 01:59:36 AM you'll have tight pants the first time you see/hear a desmoseidici then! [thumbsup]

He was on an older Monster I think, black with a bronze frame. I gave him a nod as I rode past but I didn't get a nod back :'( Hey Grug, Greetings from San Francisco! I was told about "the nod" when I rode in Oz a few weeks back. It certainly made more sense than waving with my left hand if the oncoming traffic is to the right of you. And I couldn't really figure out how to wave with my right hand and still have my hand on the throttle at the same time! [laugh] I have to say though that "the nod" is a bit difficult to master as well as to detect while going at speed. The quick up and down motion with a helmet on while riding at a fast pace took me a while to figure out...so I hope I didn't offend anyone who nodded at me when I was riding in your hood! :-[ Oh and LOL, I actually started a thread about Ducati v. Harley riders not waving at each other on this side of the pond. Funny how it's a global thing... http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=4365.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=4365.0) Cheers! |
