Title: A spin this weekend?
Post by: mattyvas on June 09, 2009, 12:12:26 AM
Who wanted to come out for a spin this weekend?

Day
Time
Direction

I'm almost certainly in.

BOM (http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10064.shtml) says Saturday will be fine.

How about the old (southern) faithful:
Loftus Oval 8:30
Nato
Bald Hill
Maq Pass
Robbo Pie Shop
Kangaroo Valley
Home

(Maybe ditch Kanga valley and just head home from the Pie shop to keep it a little shorter to for time poor.)

SuperTIB you coming out for one.last.ride or what  :'(

Hey guys , Yes i'm in for a ride for sure.
Just to confirm , I went for a spin through the National Park after work last week to try out the new baffles (wayyyy to quiet now) and as Big pointed out there are indeed 2 sections of dirt where they are doing roadworks.
See you Saturday.

Cause you can ride the with us on the other bike Rob, who cares what you ride just as long as you do.
Is 8:30 not early enough Rob?

So Andy if we go in from Waterfall and come down to the middle of the Park will we avoid the Cross Country work?

Matty I can't answer that one , as I headed up the hill from Audley Weir (going south) it started to rain so it was muddy , cold , wet and dark. I'd had enough by the turn off to waterfall so I took it and headed home. I didn't see what was south of the turnoff. I'll do a reccy run tommorrow afternoon.

Awesome Andy. Nato is interesting at the best of times let alone if half of it is currently a dirt track.

Route we took last time looked something like this (http://tinyurl.com/ll4nef) IIRC. (I always get confused with the Mount Keira Rd bit)

I'm going to be at Mecca in the City at 7 for a few quick caffeine hits if anyone Northside wants to meet up their before heading over to Loftus oval [coffee]

Count me in if i can get my suspension sorted.

I hardened the suspension back up and it still feels like complete shit to ride.

Although i may have found the culprit as when i got to work, i screwed in the damping and preload in and wound it back out. The right hand side preload setting was a full turn out than the left. No wonder it's been fighting me like mad when i want to turn  [roll]

I'll take it out during lunch and see if it rides like a bike should. If not, i'll chuck it off a cliff.

What about this version of Craig's link

linky link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=-34.0512,151.050661&daddr=Lady+Wakehurst+Dr+to:Otford+Rd+to:Princes+Hwy+to:Mount+Keira+Rd+to:Illawarra+Hwy+to:Illawarra+Hwy+to:Nowra+Rd+to:Moss+Vale+Rd+to:Princes+Hwy+to:Jamberoo+Rd+to:Tourist+Rd+to:-34.396712,150.533981+to:Hume+Hwy&geocode=FYBr-P0dpdkACQ%3BFZ089v0dlUQACQ%3BFTnK9f0dSwkACQ%3BFfgO9f0d9jf_CA%3BFZ438_0dLsL9CA%3BFWVB8P0duV76CA%3BFXQ08P0d_vT5CA%3BFc4u7_0d0kv4CA%3BFbTy7f0dHv74CA%3BFQtp7P0dXOf5CA%3BFfBA7_0dXgT9CA%3BFRgr8f0ddLb5CA%3B%3BFVw49f0d2sT6CA&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=7&mrsp=12&sz=11&via=1,3,10,11,12&sll=-34.353074,150.555954&sspn=0.426292,0.889893&ie=UTF8&ll=-34.329828,150.26825&spn=1.705608,3.55957&z=9)

Basically Craig's version with more added

Early Morning Section
- RNP
- Mt Keira
- MQ Pass
- Camberwarra Mountain through KV, down to Nowra
- The Kiama international speedway
- back up Jamberoo Mountain Road to the Robertson Pie shop

At which time:
- We meet up with people who wanted to sleep in OR
- Say goodbye to others who need to go OR
- we keep going with the moto action

To do the arvo run:
- the back of the southern highlands
- ending up in phesants nest where people can do their own thing to get home.

If we time it right (and depending on the numbers and the "tooling around factor") we could be back in Robertson early arvo (1ish at a guess), meaning that big and z can join us after having the necessary late breakfast followed by a blast up the pass for a shite coffee...  [thumbsup]

what say you all? (and no I don't have a validated leave pass yet, but I promise to try!)

What, no vacuum cleaner in the deal, you cheap bastid.
Talk it down all you want, I know Mrs Dock has got you by the short and curly's.  ;D

Oh, I thought I better quote you to preserve the comment, just in case I need it in the future!

Title: Re: A spin this weekend?

Ok , I went through the park today , there is only one section of dirt that is about 800 metres long immediately followed by about 500 metres of loose gravel. This is around 4.5 kms after the Audley weir.

There is also a road sign up at the entrance of the park saying Sir Bertram Drive closed 13/5 till 13/6 Budeeena rd to Warumbul Rd , between 9am and 3pm but I got through there today after waiting for a road traffic guy to let us go through (one way traffic at a time)

Considering the roadworks are scheduled to be finished on saturday (13/6) it may well be all tar by then. However if its not , it's only a short section of dirt and it's not that bad.

If we went in to the park at Waterfall we bypass the roadworks.

Either way i'll be at the Kirrawee Shell Servo filling up around 8ish and at the Loftus oval ready to go at 8.30

Top of Macquarie pass is going to be refreshing!

Thanks Andy.
I'm a half Park (Waterfall entrance) kinda bloke, the front of the park is long and bumpy.
Besides I have some fresh work that I'd rather not sully with extra dirt and stones.

See you all at Loftus.

Line-up includes.

Andy
Matty
Craigo
Steph?
Vince (now with added Paul Smart bling)
Nick (full pardon pending)
Big T (bicycle pick up re-scheduled)
Rob (Bladhill)
Ty (Baldhill)
Serious Groper (issues sorted?)
Big Mic

Bigiain (late shift)
Zee (late shift)

Others?

I'm calling the Burrawang Village Hotel for lunch - it's a little pricey compared to the pie shop, and we might have some fun getting a table, but it comes highly recommended from a number of people, including some locals..

It's on Hoddle St Burrawang, basically go through Robertson, down Pearsons Lane on the way to Kangaroo Valley and the first on the right to get to Burrawang..

So if anyone can't make it early, you'll know where to meet us for lunch...

Sound like a plan?

Anyone else that wants to meet up at Mecca early (BigT I'm looking at you ;)), we'll be leaving there at around 7:15am at the latest to get to Shell @ Kirrawee   for 7.45am.

Note: I've been riding to work all week and it is well.frikkin.chilly! Bring neckwarmers and gloves and thermals and anything else you can think of to keep warm (not rum).

I think we both know who's calling the shots at my place and she ain't 5 foot tall with a dark bop cut hair doo ;)
So are you bringing out the Smart for a quick spin on Saturday or what Dock?  Garn. Unless of course you are going to be going Left, Left, Right, Right, Left, Left, Left, Right, Left, Straight, rinse, repeat on the Jappa

Craig, I might stop my mecca as well, just see how the morning goes with Nemo, otherwise I'll be @ kirrawee.

Dock's not confirmed, despite him wearing the pants as he says, the pants may well be SOFT fluffy trackies  that don't like it too early or cold  [cheeky] All good news for me and matty with the up and coming sno shenannigans...  ;D

It is turns out his pants are leather, then I'd guess he's on the smart with the all inspiring tyres...

Hey Matty count me in please. So is the meeting no longer Loftus? It's now 8am depart from the Kirrawee Shell per Goldfish? I hate Shell, it destroyed our Aprilia so i will fill up prior [puke]

How fast a pace will the cruisers in the group be doing? The RS125 is being serviced today and my wife wants to come along. She is no slouch but i'll be damned if i can get that bike past 135km/h LOL.

Matty - When we stop can i get you to take my S4R for a quick ride to get your opinion? My mechanic adjusted the bars and suspension for me this morning which has considerably improved the bike. I would like another S4 riders opinion on if that's as good as it gets  [moto]

Rob, Matty, Goldfish. Slight change of plans due to a family committment. I'm still in  [thumbsup] but for the arvo run. Sorry Rob, will not be able to meet up for the early run to Bald Hill. I will instead do the solo blast up mac pass around lunch time, and meet you all at the Burrawang Village Hotel between 1:00pm and 2:00pm. [moto]

If it's a 7am start at Mecca then yeah we should make it to Kirrawee Shell for 8am.
But then you know what us lot are like, blah blah blah............
So I think we'll aim for 8am but if it goes a bit beyond that at Mecca then expect us there a little
later than the projected time.

goldFiSh (despite organising it, is only 50% as I may have to motor it home for an evening event)
Ducsport
others who feel like it!

no word from Bigiain, Zee, Steph etc, but 1 - or 11 confirmed is still a pretty decent group for 1 weeks notice!

Looking forward to it!

Sorry guys we won't be able to make it  :P. Probably a good thing as we would have had to leave home about 5am. Obviously we are still a long way from home  :'(

.... as for chilly .... snow-capped Italian Alps anyone? ;D (well we could see them anyway)

Home after a chilly day in the saddle, well not too bad but just cold hands and trouble pulling the levers
toward the end of the day.
As usual there is a bunch of snaps on the Oz Monsters Flickr page.
Great to meet Hope and Glen (a.k.a. Serious Groper). No problems with your bike SG she steers and feels fine to me.
Hope me thinks you need to invest in a neck warmer and maybe some battery heated socks and gloves, oh and don't buy
a Gixer buy an 848 you'll have some much more fun.

Great day riding overall, tops Hotel at "where again" Mick you rock through Broughton's Pass, you disappeared like we were
going backward.

Here's a snap of one of the ring in's Rob's other bike.

Thanks for a great ride today, it was good to meet more of the members on here.

The bike finally felt good, the Aprilia was going ok but needs a new TPS (thankyou warranty). Matty, thanks for the tip on the road back to Bowral, it was a nice road to cruise through and with scenary like that i could have sworn i was in England, the weather definitely felt like it!

Can't wait for the next ride  [moto]

Glad you all had a great day,was pretty cold until the sun came out.Great pics Matty.those rims sure look good in the light good to see another chick on the ride oil burner and all and Rob how could you ? dam belt drives, don't the bottom of you feet get cold on that ??? come on all...... you roasted me for the japper look what Rob's got  >:(

My day turned out pretty good as well ended up at Eastern Creek  ;D To watch some racing  [thumbsup]

After a big fall by 2 1098's, on turn 9 one of them ended up in my workshop for some emergency surgery welding and grinding until 9pm to get it together again.

Turned out the owner of the bike is the ohlins distributor for SA.Guess what he will be tuning next  [laugh]anyway Got the 1098 finished and they were as happy as can be ,he was running second in the series and not running this round would almost put him 4th.

Noticed the RC8r WOW what a machine Shannon Johnson doing 1:32 on it  :o
hosing all the field,Hey Matty is that a KTM dealer on the Princes Hwy [cheeky]

Sure is a KTM dealer, Highway Bikes I think they are called.
I think Rob gives himself more than us for the Hardly Davidson, but he did say his Missus was supposed to
be "Cup Caking" with him but thinks the seat is too hard.
There is a seed planted already as he is talking about trading both bikes, some $40k's worth on something really special.
There was mention of the Street Fighter S I had told him about some of the specials Frasers are doing.
I think I saw 1098s Tri Colore for $33-$35 ride away, there are also 1098-R's for $45k I think.

Wouldn't it be great to walk into the bike and trade $40k's worth for something that is $7k less and ask them to top it up
with $7k's worth of bling before it leaves the floor!

As to the ride, love the S4Rs just has grunt to do anything you want.
I was still barely using half throttle compared to the track, so I know how much it has to go.
First time up the pass was in the lead with Uncle Chop Chop behind me, I kept him reasonably honest
though I could still hear him right up my tail chop. Still I was happy  ;D

Second time (yes we went up twice, like having two shags in a day) it was much easier till we coped a tourist bus  [bang]
Didn't spent too much time behind it, Uncle Chop Chop was leading and I was on the follow again  ;D

The run home I was well tired, sore hands from the recent work I've been up too plus the cold was making it difficult to pull the clutch.
Tops day though, excellent turn out for a weeks notice as said by Goldfish. Guess you could tell we were all hanging
for a day out, it has been some time since we'd had a group ride.
Will do another one again soon. Maybe when it warms up a little hey!

come on all...... you roasted me for the japper look what Rob's got  >:(

You're much more fun to pay out on, that's why...

Now that we've clear that up, did you get all your work done on the japacati? Taking this back on topic (being the ride) I still call you being SOFT for bailing out of a day ride after less than an hour of riding!

Tho, we did manage to get some laughs - that'll teach me for leaving my key in the bike when you're around!
