how many of you quit smoking?
its been about 5 years for me
I quit for two months after I got married. Then my attitude took a turn for the worst and I was being a dick to my sweet new wife for no reason. I caved and started again. I am ready to try to quit again.

good for you its tough it really is.
I went cold turkey about five years ago.
They also started jacking the shitballs out of it 5 years ago (maybe more). good move. keep it up [thumbsup]
It's one of the few vices I have left.
There's nothing better than a cigarette or cigar after a good meal, or with that first cup of coffee in the morning. Aaaaahh!
I tried to get addicted once as a dumb experiment. I failed miserably.
First few packs made me downright tipsy/dizzy, so I'm definitely sensitive to it, but I never had the desire to go out of my way to smoke.
I honestly wanted to see what the big deal was... how it could possibly be worth all the money, health risks, social stigma, etc. I also really wanted to understand the difficulty in quitting I always hear about. I guess I didn't try long enough?
At least I got some sweet Clapton-inspired cigarette burns on my strat from it. [laugh]

While I was deployed, I switched from cigarettes to Skoal. Now I'm weening myself off of that by switching to Camel Snus. I'm down to 3 pouches a day of that stuff.
I quit smoking Wednesday right after I walked out of the bar I was in. I'll probably quit again Saturday after I walk out of whatever bar I've been in.
My brother-in-law is getting a triple bypass today, thanks mostly to 30+ years of smoking.
i quit on september 20, 1997, the day my mom died from lung cancer.
she smoked for 32 of her 52 years.
I quit back in October after 12 years of smoking and several failed attempts at quitting. Sounds stupid, but all I did was read a book. The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. I thought it was BS until several of my friends quit after reading it, but since I read it I've been swearing it was the best $15 I ever spent.
I have read this book three times. >:( :'(
I quit cold turkey 7 years ago, 2 pack a day winston red abuser. Best and hardest thing I ever did. I'd probably be dead right now if I didn't quit.
I quit cold turkey about 13 years ago. I only smoked for about 7 years though - about 2 packs a day.
I smoked a pack a day for over 12 years. I took Chantix to quit. I haven't had a single puff in One Year, Three Months and Fourteen Days. I never had any of the side effects or problems that have been reported, aside from being nauseous a few times in the morning. I took the pills for the full 12 weeks, probably could have stopped after 6 weeks. It really made quitting very easy for me.
The only time I miss smoking is when I'm drinking [drink]
i quit when i started reading this thread now im gonna go outside and smoke.
it's been 18 months after 3+ years of smoking Marlboro reds
the reason i quit was for my first son
I quit for two years about 3 years ago then started again last year. In Louisiana I can still get a pack for $5.05 ttl and when that number moves to the $6.xx mark I'll quit again.
Almost 2 years ago I quit cigarette smoking cold turkey. I was a pack a day full-flavor menthol guy for 15 years.
After about a year quit, I started having a cigar or my pipe about once a week, but have not really had any desire to smoke cigarettes again. I think that while I was physically addicted, the habitual stuff was the worst of it for me personally.
The first 3-4 weeks are a private hell. Send away people you love while you detox, have a good support network, and hang in there!
I quit when I turned 30, about 3 1/2 years ago. I briefly started about again from Nov 08 - Feb 09 but I kicked it again.
I quit cold turkey both times. The first time was hell, I worked in a club(back when you could smoke in them) so I was surrounded the whole time.
The second time I was familiar with the tricks your mind will play to get you to light up so it was easier to resist.
"Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times."
- Mark Twain
I'm excellent at quitting - I do it all the time.
