Title: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: erkishhorde on July 08, 2009, 03:28:39 PM I could have sworn someone put these on their bike but I can't find the thread where they posted their source. I'm having trouble quickly finding somewhere that I can get one. I found the Colder site where they seem to have what I want but it seems to be a wholesaler and I don't see where to buy.
Ideally I'd like non-spill with the non-spill side threaded so that I can replace the current nipple on the tank and not have to take up extra space with it. Don't think I need to spend the money on a double sided non-spill coupler since I imagine it would cost a lot more. TIA Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/category/quick_disconnect_couplings/ (http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/category/quick_disconnect_couplings/) You can order them directly from motion-pro if you want. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: Speeddog on July 08, 2009, 03:38:07 PM IMO, you're not going to find a QD to thread onto that nipple.
I've bought those ones in Spidey's link, they work great. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: erkishhorde on July 08, 2009, 03:38:38 PM Kinda. Was thinking of metal and those look plastic. I was actually looking for this and found it just now.

Yeah, that's the trick, I don't know what the threading is on the nipple since I've never taken it off. I know you did to do the POR15 though, think what I found could work? $18.50 is a lot more appealing than $42 though. I could sacrifice cosmetics for economics. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? The metal ones are good stuff. I'd be *really* *really* surprised if you could find one with a female thread other than NPT. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Oh, what's an NPT? Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: Speeddog on July 08, 2009, 03:49:32 PM Yep, it's a male thread on the tank.
I'm gonna guess it's 12mm, and it's a fine thread. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: erkishhorde on July 08, 2009, 03:56:07 PM Yep, it's a male thread on the tank. Hmmm, well part of the reason that I wanted to put the valve right after the tank was so that there wouldn't be any hoses hanging around there if I take the tank off. If I don't mind hoses I can take my petcock off the bike and just leave all that hose hanging down there while I take the tank off and then I don't need a quick disconnect. Hmm... I'll think about it. Thanks, guys. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: He Man on July 08, 2009, 06:33:20 PM you can just cut the tubing and install these right?
Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Post by: erkishhorde on July 08, 2009, 07:29:36 PM Yeah, don't forget to get 2 more hose clamps though.

Oh, what's an NPT? NPT = national pipe thread. see wiki for far more than you ever wanted to know about this. Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? Ah, I think that's the one I was looking for. Almost exactly like the Colder stuff but they let you pick which parts you want and it's cheaper. [thumbsup] Still not sure that they have what I want though. The only female 1/4" NPT connector they have is described as: 1/4" NPT female thread, Pipe thread, 1.25" MC Length, 1.53" MCD Length, Straight thru, Insert 1/4" flow That seems to me like it's not a shut-off? Also, if I interpret this correctly you buy the 2 halves separately from this company? Also, found this: FT-MCD18-1032 10-32 UNF Female Thread Panel Mount Shut off What's a 10-32 UNF? edit: doh! 1032 UNF is a really tiny thread. [roll] Title: Re: quick release fuel coupler? (then again i never really looked and you're going to make this easy for me. :P :)) Well, today I took the nipple off the tank to try and figure out what size it is. Nobody could tell me. ??? It's a rather random size that isn't common apparently. So that kind of kills my idea for putting it right at the outlet for the tank unless I get someone to cut off the existing thread and put on something more common which I don't want to do. :( As for the part numbers that pompetta used: I have the chrome-plated brass quick disconnects from omega.com But prices have gone up...? Dang weak $Do a search, I listed the part numbers for someone the other day. Here ya go: Here are the part numbers and prices for the chrome-plated brass couplings: FT-LCD170-05: $18 FT-LCD220-05: $11.15 They also sell plastic ones which are less expensive. Omega is a great company from whom to order...fast shipping and great customer service. FT-LCD170-05 $24 5/16" ID hose barb, In-line, 2.00" Length, Shutoff, Coupling body 1/4" flow FT-LCD220-05 $15 5/16" ID, Hose barb, Straights, 1.35" LC Length, 1.85" LCD Length, Shutoff, Insert 1/4" flow I THINK that if you wanted to save a bit of coin, you could go with a shutoff on only 1 side and get a FT-LC220-05 $7 5/16" ID, Straights, Hose barb, 1.35" LC Length, 1.85" LCD Length, Straight thru, Insert 1/4" flow It'll save you $8 but you'll spill a bit of gas that's in the line. |
