My fender hasn't cracked through, but the best part was I did it in my own garage moving the bike around. DOH! Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: LSD4me on July 24, 2009, 09:07:51 AM its a good thing i didnt just get on and take off...this was done by rolling the bike (engine off) to a different location...or at least attempting to...
Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: LSD4me on July 24, 2009, 09:31:10 AM Just ordered the Duacti Performance CF Front Fender - Part # 96948800B for ($298 Total including shipping and CA Sales Tax)...I think i got a good deal.

Ummm... I did that once too. Stalled and almost fell over. Lesson learned. No damage, I think. Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: hihhs on July 24, 2009, 10:40:18 AM This is the only reason I don't have one of those. I KNOW I would try to drive off with it still attached.
Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: arai_speed on July 24, 2009, 10:45:25 AM Did that years ago on a bran new R1. I haven't used a disc lock since.
Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: 4DoorSi on July 24, 2009, 12:30:17 PM I can never remember to pick up my kick stand plate, much less take off a disc lock, which is why I don't own one.

Consequently, in the rare occasions when I use a disc lock, I attach it to one of these with a blank key on one end placed in my ignition. I can't start the bike without at least thinking of the lock. If I park the bike so I have to back out, I put the Lock on the disc close to the Fender arm, so worst case the bike will only move an inch before the lock hit's the Fender arm, conversely if I have ride forward to get out of the parking space I place the disc lock a few MM under the Brake caliper, again I will only move the bike an inch and it will stop. Worst case you will still have your feet down and can hold the bike up. mind you I have never had a problem checking for my lock being on ever again, I check every time before moving off. Years ago I rode off with my forks locked.Last time I tried that. ;) Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: He Man on July 24, 2009, 02:52:44 PM Years ago I rode off with my forks locked. what do you mean forks locked? Last time I tried that. ;) Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: teddy037.2 on July 24, 2009, 03:56:01 PM Years ago I rode off with my forks locked. Last time I tried that. ;) how'd you start the bike if they were locked? Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: kopfjäger on July 24, 2009, 04:23:26 PM how'd you start the bike if they were locked? Some bikes used to have the fork lock in a different spot than the ignition. Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: dlearl476 on July 24, 2009, 04:23:43 PM Years ago I rode off with my forks locked. Last time I tried that. ;) Nothing new for me, I've been riding around in circles for year. ;D how'd you start the bike if they were locked? Old BMW's and Moto Guzzis (maybe more) had a separate key/lock on the side of the steering stem not related to the ign. switch. Done it more than once. Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: teddy037.2 on July 24, 2009, 05:19:25 PM ah..
muchas gracias Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: ducpainter on July 24, 2009, 05:39:24 PM Some bike used to have the fork lock in a different spot than the ignition. ding ding ding... ;DBack in the day... they all had a separate lock for the forks. Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: somegirl on July 24, 2009, 06:11:07 PM I can't be bothered to use a disc lock anymore, but when I did, I'd always hook the pouch that it came in over the throttle as a reminder.
Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: Bones on July 25, 2009, 03:19:38 AM lol. with my old ninja, the beginning of every season was marked with my trying to ride off with the disc lock on. I always made it a foot before it tipped over!

I leave the key in the bike when it's in the garage sometimes. :D Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: Fresh Pants on July 25, 2009, 09:53:11 AM Bike lock in the garage? Kinda excessive don't you think? ??? I leave the key in the bike when it's in the garage sometimes. :D I figure it can't hurt. Well, unless you count cracking fenders. [laugh] Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: erkishhorde on July 25, 2009, 02:07:10 PM Dang, I'm surprised you guys managed to forget it and didn't get some bad damage. If you do use a wheel lock, put it just behind your brake calipers so that it doesn't have a chance to go full revolution before it catches. I took off with it on once and it broke my caliper mounts. I rode 3 miles with the caliper gouging my wheel before I realized it. :-X

[cheeky] Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: ab on July 29, 2009, 03:31:47 PM Moving my bike around in the garage with disk lock few years ago led to a warped rotors in time. Front braking would just shake the bike. Ended up replacing the rotors with alth rotors. Expensive mistake [bang]
Title: Re: Disc Lock FAIL Post by: DarkStaR on July 30, 2009, 09:09:29 AM would you mind posting your garage code? [cheeky] No code, but go ahead and steel it. I can care less. That's what full coverage is for. :P |
