Title: Ride days
Post by: DRKWNG on August 02, 2009, 08:20:11 PM
As posted in the Jamba Juice thread, it seems that some of the newer folks here might not be able to come out to local rides due to them usually happening on Sunday mornings.  So with that in mind, what works best for you?

Saturdays are usually good for me, when I don't have to work.  But lately, I haven't had to work that many weekends, maybe one weekend a month.

i'm trying to work more saturdays

sunday afternoon will be hockey

cutting out early to make it back to mililani to change and get to the rink by noon on sundays for hockey is pretty lame

I generally like to ride early on weekends to avoid traffic and heat...that said, I don't ride every weekend due to other commitments...

i like saturdays generally.  this weekend, for example, i have uber-freedom until about noon on saturday.  then i am make the beast with two backsed for the rest of the weekend.

Ok, so there seems to be a bit more interest to try Saturday morning rides than anything else, even boobies (which I find quite alarming).  So with that in mind, who would be down for meeting up this Saturday AM for a nice jaunt?  If we meet up early enough we could probably make it through Hawaii Kai and Makapu Point before traffic starts to get heavy...

Title: Re: Ride days
Post by: eltristo on August 10, 2009, 07:22:32 AM
I do believe I am down, especially for early.  And I would have been happy to vote boobies in conjunction, but I couldn't pick it on its own.

boobies  ;D

this saturday would work for me.  but I'm most likely the slow guy of the bunch so i'll be bringing up the rear.  plus, the bike's still in "break in" period.

Title: Re: Ride days

Ok, so how many of you would be up for meeting at the usual Starbucks/Jamba Juice (Ward Avenue) at say 0700 this Saturday?  We could leave there, head through Makapu Pt, then go hit Norfolk and maybe 13 turns depending on the weather.  From there we could either go hit Brent's for breakfast or keep riding.  Thoughts?

You guys know my schedule. Sat mornings are out. Sat. afternoons are good.  [moto] [beer]

Then come join us for an after morning ride.  ;)

There is still a good chance that I will be on for a sunday jaunt, but wanted to try and get something going where we can get more folks involved as well.

Can't make it this Saturday morning, but planning on coming out this Sunday morning if there is still gonna be one.

planning on coming out this Sunday morning if there is still gonna be one.

I'm sure there will be a ride of some sort going out on Sunday morning.  And even if none of us make it, there is always the crew that goes out from Starbucks/Jamba Juice at 0930.  These guys can be pretty quick sometimes depending on who all shows up.  Don't worry about keeping up, especially on Tantalus, if you start to feel uncomfortable.

Title: Re: Ride days
Post by: MadDuck on August 11, 2009, 07:43:43 AM
I'd like to add a few things here. The Sunday morning Starbucks ride is not a "Ducati" ride, although there are a few Ducs in the group. It is not a ride that was organized or led by anyone on this forum. Ben & I have been tagging along, as it were, for a while now because of an invitation we got a long time ago when we were trying to get our own forum group together on a regular basis and the meeting times crossed. That, and mostly because Ben & I were the only two that would show up regularly. Maybe they felt sorry for us.  [laugh] The folks in that group are highly experienced and ride all the time. Read what you will into that statement. I usually feel like an anchor.

I'm all for new folks coming out but I get the feeling that it might be better if we set off in a sub-group first for a few rides to sort things out and get to know each other before jumping right into the former group. That's just me and maybe I'm being a bit conservative

I could deal w/a DMF only ride group... not like I could keep up w/the fast kids anyway

Yeah, I need plenty practice before I can take on Tantalus without pulling teeth. :p

But as stated previously, I'm not one of the fast guys   :(

No worries, it's all good.  There is a time and a place for everything, and speeding through the twisties is included in that.  We'll take it mellow on this ride, and any time the pace gets a bit high, we will chill out and wait for those that would rather maintain a more relaxed pace.

My main goal is to get more and more Ducati riders together, so we can all head out and enjoy ourselves.

Title: Re: Ride days
Post by: Speed 3 Pilot on August 14, 2009, 04:25:13 PM
I won't be able to make it tomorrow, my bike has been at South Seas for the last 4 days now it's still not fixed.

I took it in late Monday because the dash has been intermittently resetting itself since I brought it home.  Will fixed a loose dash connection at the 600 mile service and I thought that was it, then late last week it started up again...this has happened at least 10 times in the first 1000 miles or so.

The dealership called DNA and they instructed Will to go through the entire wiring harness, checking each connection.  Will finished up earlier today and took it for a test ride and the dash reset itself 3 times.

When the dash does this, all the warning lights cycle as if the key has just been switched on, then the check engine light comes on with a momentary loss of power, the screen flashes a code, then it's back to normal function except that the trip meter and clock have been reset to zero...it all happens in an instant.

I am extremely frustrated, to say the least... :(

It was good to meet you guys today.  Thanks for the inauguration ride, and breakfast!  It was a good time.  I won't be able to make it out for the next 2 weekends though.  Work and a conference requires my presence.  Hopefully I'll get my initial 600 break in miles by the time I return  ;D

Breakfast? Where did you guys ride today?

Title: Re: Ride days
Post by: DRKWNG on August 16, 2009, 06:31:54 AM
Started off at the usual meeting point and headed out east through Hawaii Kai and Makapu Point. Traffic was no where to be seen through the rocks and I think it was the only time I have seen a clear rode through there, but then karma caught up with is in the form of a pick-up in Waimanalo. From there we hit Norfolk and Thirteen Turns, then made our way west for Tech Park and Snake. Had breakfast out at the little joint in Waimalu (spelling?).  I ended up taking the Daytona out later on and making a few runs down Norfolk to try and make a few suspension changes...

Well, hoping that I get all the work done to the bike after it's delivered, I'm pretty flexible. If she's put back together, I'd love to go explore the Island. All I need is an address and a time to meet and I'll be there. Maybe I'll let the wife come too. But only if she's good. ;D

Yeah.  That number, with 00 after it and $ before it, is his budget.  He just needs a simple bike for pedaling around and maybe riding to work.  Basic is the key word here.

Gene, believe me when I say that it just keeps getting better and better the more you ride it.  I have developed so much more faith in my SC as time goes on.  Now granted, I keep changing things on it to dial it in more and more, but it feels better (handling, not necessarily comfort wise) each time I ride it.

And there we have it gentlemen.  So when should we meet up?  I assume we will still go for the usual location?

I'm an early riser, so 7:30 and after is good for me...

It's going to be a complicated day.  I have the run at 0800, then I have to be at Bellows at noon for a friend's going away.  If fatty bails on me I can definitely make it out.  Otherwise, it's iffy.

I have to go ride the bicycle tomorrow afternoon so that I have Sunday free. It's the basic plan for the new year. Not that it can't ever be changed but the idea is to get more rides, more miles and less fat.

Title: Re: Ride days
Post by: eltristo on January 09, 2010, 06:54:01 AM
Fat is necessary!  What happens if you drop your phone in the toilet, then somehow break both legs trying to retrieve it, and for some reason there's nobody around to hear your cries for help?   You'll be wishing you had that fat then!

It's not the first time or the last time someone doesn't check fuel before heading out. We are all guilty of that at one time or another.  I had to stop for fuel a little bit after that too.   If you have it happen to you a couple of times then you are normal.
