Title: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: sbui on August 09, 2009, 01:31:14 PM Kind of interested in looking for another bike, but have one problem. Kind of not sure of which one, and also feel like I would be cheating on the current one!!!!
How do you guys out there with more than 1 bike do it??? In all Honesty, looking at a 2007 Victory Vegas 8 ball. Kinda of want a cruiser but not too sure. I know there are some guys out here that have Harley's. Which one do you end up riding more or just depends on the situation??? The wife is giving the someway sort of OK to go for another bike. I currently have a 97 M750. Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: Popeye the Sailor on August 09, 2009, 03:52:13 PM Go test ride anything anyone will let you take out. ;)
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: Travman on August 09, 2009, 04:02:16 PM Don't be afraid to look at used bikes. I would never buy a new cruiser style motorcycle. My Harley is a 2001 Wide Glide. New it would have cost something like $17,000. It now has 15,000 miles. It puts out a good deal more power than stock and shifts way better than a stock bike now that it is broken in. It is probably worth $5-7K. There are some good deals to be found out there.
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: redxblack on August 09, 2009, 04:17:35 PM GT 1000?
My formula for 2 bikes is ONE FOR RIDING, ONE FOR WRENCHING. I have my M750 and a second bike that's a project. Once the project is "done", it's sold for the next project. The current one is a honda 250 rebel that I'm turning into a bobber/rat bike. I'm planning on restoring a CB 750 next. If I need to do something to the M750, I have a second bike that I can use for parts runs. Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: kopfjäger on August 09, 2009, 04:39:43 PM GT 1000? Post by: redxblack on August 09, 2009, 05:32:10 PM As soon as it's done, I'll be glad to share. I have to engineer a way to connect a rear fender to the swingarm and then fabricate it. Then paint, and it's done.
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: corndog67 on August 09, 2009, 05:34:33 PM Do what I do. Buy something different every couple of years. Right now I have an '06 YZ450F, in great shape, don't have to hardly work on it, and it beats me up all the time. And I have the S4, which is a good fun ride usually, too. Next, maybe an RC-51, or a KTM Supermoto or SuperDuke, maybe a ZX-10, possible even a Hypermoto, S4RS, Streetfighter, it all depends what I can get a good deal on. I'm not very brand loyal, after all, they are just motorcycles, I can have fun on a Honda Esprit scooter, or a 450 dirt bike, or a CBR1000RR Supersport, or maybe even a Triumph Triple (I used to own a 955 Daytona). I'll ride whatever, I just like to ride, have fun, and don't like being left walking by unreliable bikes anymore. Bring them on, I'll ride anything.
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: LA on August 09, 2009, 05:37:22 PM If I were to buy a crusier, Which I won't, it might just be a Victoroy.
The local shop where I buy tires sell Victory, Kaw, Yam, KTM, Hyosung, Vespa and more. The Victory's look bunches better than Harleys and have better engines by design for sure - in my book anyway. There was a brand new ZX10 Ninja on the floor for $9800 on the floor. My goodness that's an awful lot of motorcycle for the $$$. My insurance co. does say my RS is a crusier - thank God. Post by: DoubleEagle on August 09, 2009, 05:40:12 PM I started with an '07 S4Rs , then got another '07 and a '07 BMW K1200S, for a more Sport bike kind of ride.
I then got a '08 1098 R because I wanted the " Ultimate " Ducati Street Bike. I sold the one S4Rs and the BMW K1200S and got a '09 BMWK1300GT for a more comfortable, longer distance ride, yet pretty quick and handles very well to boot. Each bike has it's purpose and they each wear out a lot slower w, 3. Plus it makes riding more interesting. Dolph :) Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: justinrhenry on August 09, 2009, 05:54:08 PM I buy a new bike every year or so, but I've decided having two bikes might be the ticket to keeping me from wanting a new one every other day. I just bought my Monster. My other bike is a Triumph Rocket III. My suggestion on having more than one bike is not to have two bikes that are basically the same (i.e. two sport bikes or two cruisers).

Post by: vwboomer on August 10, 2009, 05:00:22 AM I've got my 05 S4r and 05 FSE450.
In spring I hope to add an ADV style bike for long hauls. Cruisers don't generally appeal to me, but something like a VStrom or GS is pretty versatile. A bike for each purpose I say. Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: mstevens on August 10, 2009, 05:48:40 AM My other bike is a Triumph Rocket III. I've always wondered - do you have to top up the Argument Juice level, or does the factory installation last for the life of the bike? Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: Desmo Demon on August 10, 2009, 05:53:15 AM My suggestion on having more than one bike is not to have two bikes that are basically the same (i.e. two sport bikes or two cruisers). I always suggest the same thing, but some people are extremely narrow-minded and refuse to look at any other style of motorcycle. I know some guys with 2, 3, and even 4 Harleys without any of them really being much different than the other. I do know one guy who has three Harleys and they are all fairly different. He has the full-dress FLH, a smaller Big-Twin Low Rider, and then he has a V-Rod for when he really wants to open it up. My wife used to not want to have anything to do with a bike that was not a full-blown sportbike. She learned on a Ninja 250 and then bought a GSXR and had both at the same time. For a couple of years, she had a GSXR and an R1. Both were different in that the GSXR is a '94 and the R1 is a '00 model. The GSXR is more cramped and she rides it faster than the R1, which to her is a sport-touring bike. It wasn't until last year that I bought her the Monster. It is still taking her a while to warm up to the bike and still gets tickled that a few years ago she wouldn't have wanted a thing to do with a Monster, yet alone own or ride one. I firmly believe in variety and have the sport, sport-touring, cruiser, and vintage sport-toruing bikes covered. I sold my dirtbike a few years ago because of the hassle to go anywhere to ride it. I've recently thought about getting a dual sport. I'm always thinking about my "next" bike. The last year has had me itching for either a Monster, 848, Bimota DB2 or YB11, or an early 90's GSXR and ZX bikes. I still think it would be cool to have an old Harley flat-head, a 70's CB or GS, a Ducati 750F1, a Ducati single, and just about anything else with two-wheels....I'm simply a bike whore and want one of everything. Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: RC Fan on August 10, 2009, 06:42:35 AM I think a lot about the next bike. I have a strong, irrational desire for a GSX-R750. I would also like a small dual sport such as an XT250.
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: Duc Fever on August 10, 2009, 06:44:40 AM +1 on variety, I would opt for a bike as different as possible from my current one. Ideally I would have a bike for every mood ;D
Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: Triple J on August 10, 2009, 07:23:26 AM I have a fun, nice weather bike...the Ducati "Monstrada"
The other bike is my any weather, any distance bike...GS That way they're both different, and both get ridden quite a bit...and I never really have to think too hard about which one to take. ;D My 3rd bike is a track bike...pretty obvious when to ride that one! [cheeky] Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: ute on August 10, 2009, 01:47:58 PM get a bike from your past
i have a 77 RD400 and a 86 GSXR 750 both made an impact on my youth so you ride the one that turns your crank that day ...but that being said the Monster is my reliable bike ...guaranteed to start every time and run a 500km trip without a hickup Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: justinrhenry on August 10, 2009, 02:55:17 PM I've always wondered - do you have to top up the Argument Juice level, or does the factory installation last for the life of the bike? it needs to be refilled, but sources are plentiful. I have only been riding my 02 BMW 1150GS for the last couple of years. Just got another Duc and this combo seems perfect to me right now ! [cheeky] Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? Post by: redxblack on August 11, 2009, 10:11:31 AM I'm going to shorten the front fender for sure. I haven't decided if I want to round or square off the fenders. I'm going on vacation soon and won't have time to even look at the bike for a week or so. I hope to have it done by Labor Day.

Nope, toss the front fender as far away as it will fly and cut the bejeezus out of the rear. ;) 'Tis neat. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Another bike besides a Duc??? It has a few holes drilled in it to keep it light, but it's a really heavy duty piece.

All of mine get regular use, no garage queens. When I take out the crusiers it is for a different kind of ride, but I still ride them like they were meant to be ridden - which is why I bought a Victory, I'm a two lane, twisty roads, 10 over posted rather than 10 under posted. A Ducati and a Crusier makes sense to me, different rides for different moods. And it is all about mielage in the maintenance dept, one ride you just get to the service interval faster, with multiple rides you spread it out and you have another bike when one is in for service. If you want any details on expereince with Victory bikes let me know, I bought the fisrt model year 99', which then went to my brother-in-law and now his son, still on the road, no issues - but for sure the new bikes 03' and up are absolute perfection in comparison. I won't get into a Harley vs Victory debate but I encourage you to look at the technology behind the product and would include the Stars in that. Last point is there is no rule on how many bikes one can have, life is short, have as many as you can afford as long as they put a smile on you face when you ride them. - Gene
