Title: Monster eating license plate...what to do ???
Post by: Razzo Bolognese on August 25, 2009, 01:04:27 PM
Sure I'm riding hard all over Manhattan, so I realize my suspension is doing A LOT of traveling, but get a load of these (crap quality) pics!  What should I do about this?  My current theory is I should remove the license plate bracket & plate, bash it back into place as best I can with a hammer and re-mount onto my baby.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Disses?  BTW you can't even see the giant tire mark in the middle of the plate.

1) Angle the plate some.
2) Make/get a plate mount that will move the plate more towards the rear (e.g., not so much directly over the wheel).
3) Adjust the suspension if it hasn't been done already.

Id bend that plate mount back more  or cut off most of it, and just bend the top lip where new york is, thats how mine is right now. havent been pulled over...YET.

Are those zipties? mine are the EXACT same way lol

Yep, zip ties.  Everybody warned me of losing  a plate in NYC.  I didn't think my baby would EAT IT!  Anybody have a suggestion on where to get a different license plate mount?

Dan,
Either make one yourself out of aluminum.

Or wait till I get back from Indy as I've got an extra Competition werkes fender eliminator kit which has the plate mount made outta stainless.

and ditch the zip ties holding your plate or you WILL loose it.
get more of those plastinuts that are holding the bottom.

"make" something out of aluminum?!?  I suppose I could do one of those tin foil swans they sometimes put leftovers in at fancy-ish restaurants, but that's about as close as I am capable of.  Gimmie a call when u get back to town.  I'd love to see you guys, maybe come to your house and cook up a STORM!

I have steel nuts...and no I'm not bragging  ;D  Something else to discuss over the fabulous meal to come.

Thanks!

I would just relocate them far away from the top of the tire.

I'd suggest you lose some weight & stop doing so many damn wheelies [cheeky]

Just rip the damn thing off & add it to your list of transgressions.

I'm 140 lbs soaking wet, on a full stomach & my wheelies, while common, are not very good.  Wouldn't stoppies be the problem (BTW I have NO interest in learning how to do one of those)

Ya but now I can use the "golly, how did that happen officer?" routine.  It's gonna rain for the next few days.  Maybe it'll heal itself.

Cool.... you're one of the few people who don't need to upgrade the rear shock [thumbsup]

Reason I mentioned the wheelies is another member here, Ciao Fun, used to hit his plate often when he wheelied his S4R...... he had the Competitiom Werks kit.

I hit mine on the Crest after nailing a large pothole...... pulled into Newcomb's & plate was up against the sub-fender & the profile matched the rear tire...... even had the tread imprinted in it [laugh]  Luckily enough GregP offered up his underseat storage space on his SS 1000 so I did't have to ride back down with the mount & plate in my jacket [thumbsup]

had the same problem with the Tail Chop, bend the Aluminum bracket upwards to angle the plate. NYC potholes make the wheel travel quite a bit.

had the same problem, i then redid my bracket and moved the top of the plate out to the end of the light and have not hit it ever since.  Also improves its functionality as a mud guard.

Until I saw the beer tray on the most recent BOMb http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php) I thought the only reason not to do a tail chop was because of the minor legal inconveniences.  Tailchops look BADASS.
