So, this is my second ignitech module to get messed up on me... not sure what everyone else's experience has been so far, but my first one would not accept programming after connecting it once to my computer. I sent that one back and they couldn't figure out what happened either, but confirmed that it did not accept programming changes. ???
At least that time the module still ran the bike just fine, today I find that the bike will not start at all and finally figured out (after replacing the ignitech module with the OEM modules) that the ignitech unit was not working. The unit does not connect to the computer and does not run the bike either.
The only thing that I can think of that may have caused this is that this past week has been the first week of 90+ degree, high humidity weather days and that coupled with running temps may have caused the unit to fry? I don't know...
any thoughts? :'( I will be emailing ignitech shortly
I had one reset itself to a Yamaha setting & ( of course) it wouldn't start my Ducati. Can you get into it enough to verify what program it's running. The guys over there have been very helpfull to us but there is still a lot of testing we need to do before I'm completely comfortable. I also have a set of thier coils but haven't used them yet.
Innnnteresting.
Thanks for keeping us updated! fwiw, I got in another batch of `em, too. If Ignitech wants to save some money, I'd be ok with sending you one and them owing me until the next batch.
Please CC me in your conversations... orders @ ca - cycleworks com
:) Chris
cool, thanks for replying guys.
norm, the unit doesn't let me connect, so I can't even check what program it's running unfortunately... :-\
chris, thanks, i'll CC you after jan replies back to my first email and hopefully we can figure this out. I'd really like to get the unit back to them so can diagnose the problem and tell us what happened.
for now though, the OEM modules are running the bike beautifully and I'm at least up and running....
it's always funny when you go back to stock and thiink "wow, this is really nice".

Hey folks, just received the replacement unit yesterday and I thought I should close the loop on this. Here's the email I got back from Jan on the broken one:
////////////////
Hello We sent it back 19.6.08. There were bad connection inside ignition. It was cause by production. We apologize you. Regards Jan MatousIgnitech s.r.

That's all the info I have. Hopefully it's not a batch manufacturing issue, but it seems I'm the only one who's been affecting thus far...
are you going to pursue using it?
you've had a bunch of problems.
I still think they will work out fine, but personally, I'm proceeding slowly.

good question, I haven't quite decided, but I'm going to go the same as norm on this one. I at least have the option of keeping either the ignitech or the OEM modules as backups, so I'm definitely keeping it... but cautious
Mine almost 2 years & about 6k km`s now, no problemos.
Don`t miss Brad's excellent report:

I have similar problems with my module. Just got the thing programmed with the same advance settings as greenmonster had in the older posts and the bike didn't start at all! I'm pretty sure i got the wiring correct and the bike started on the old modules fine. Any ideas?
can you program the module still? or can you not connect it to your computer at all?
I can program it just fine and everything seems to work just fine when its connected to the computer, but the bike just doesn't start when the module is on the bike...
Mine is still running strong.
Default Ducati Kokusan map is a good start f most bikes.
Only problem I heard of over here is a bad electric tach, connected via 3pin to ign module, ruined a TCI-P4.
Mine running fine, 3rd year now.

Can you connect w PC when on bike? Wondering if it gets power.
did you check continuity through each of the wires on the harness?
Maybe you should carry a spare?

Haven't checked that yet. I programmed it with a spare bike battery, so no programming done while on the bike(don't have a cable long enough). I'll check the wires and if that doesn't help i'll program it with the standard ducati kokusan map and try again. i'll report later...
the wires in the harness are ok. didn't have time to program the module again, i'll give it a go tomorrow..
i had one that wouldn't start to work until about 10 seconds after it was turned on from memory. turn on the key , press the button straight away and it'd crank and crank and finally fire up. but if the key had been on it'd spark straight away. or something like that. i sent it back, they fixed it and returned it.
tried the 10sec power on waiting thing, no luck. tried also cranking a while with the module, but still didn't start... I'm waiting for ignitech to reply my e-mail so will have to wait what they have to say.
Do you have spark while cranking?
If so, try default Ducati Kokusan map.
tried changing the map to the normal ducati map. no luck. still won't start. Didn't have time to check for spark...
sounds like you may have a bad module. I had one, although it seems fairly rare. You may want to see if you chris up at cycleworks might be able to help you with an exchange or something...
sure sounds like its bad :-\ I ordered this straight from ignitech and I live in Finland so it's better to contact ignitech. I did send them an an e-mail last week but I guess they are not that responsive...
just give it some time and if you think you need to, send another email, they are at least very good about supporting their hardware even if they are a little slow on communication at times
They replied a few hours ago, so it didn't take that long after all. Something like five days and with the weekend in the middle thats understandable...
Outcome?
To me,
they do reply to emails & w interest. ;)
Just got them to make a special setting f my fathers old Sux twin gs 450. :)
I think they have gotten now they have to be more customer friendly.
never saw this thread before...
I've had some drama's with mine. I've done a couple of track days on hot days with the Ignitech fitted.
The bike has developed a miss so I've changed it out to the modules and all went well again.
Fitted Ignitech again after getting home and bike cool and all good.
Since its happed twice on hot days (while floggin the crap outa the bike), I can only guess its heat sensitive...
Think it mattered where you had yours located? (Where did you place your units?)

Maybe...
It was mounted where the modules were, behind the arbox. Didn't get a lot of air flow..
I've since put pod filters on so the airflow has improved, but theres been no more flogging it on trackdays on hot days to say if it helps.

Asked Jan at Ignitech if they`ve had any heat/vibrations realated reliability issues, his reply:
"Our ignition make only a litle warm. It could work in heat but it is better not to do it.
We advice don't give ignition near to hort parts."
So mounting in a place w a little air cooling is adviced.
I`ve had mine in a test position f over 3 years (... :-X) now, on top of battery....
Wonder if moving it, somehow, to under the seat would work well. I've seen the rectifier/regulator moved there (on Supersports? Can't remember).
Thanks for the info greenmonster. [thumbsup]
As I say, its in a better position now, should get better airflow.

I had not seen those before, I've got the "mean green" ones. I did, recently spy these at the Kaemna.de site:
2.8 ohm (vs. 3 ohm) RED coils:
They are double exit, however. I suppose they are intended for dual-spark coverted carb'ed bikes.

Not good.
It needs cooling.
Right. Same with the rectifier. The example I'm thinking of is where the regulator/rectifier is mounted in the open-air area above the rear wheel, not between the seat and undertail area. The supersport or whatever the bike was I was thinking about had it mounted essentially on the other side of the license plate.
Kind of the same thinking as the bikes that have their oil cooler / radiator in that area. (Can't think of it either, so consumed with school work).
