save yourself the $200 and spend a day doing it yourself, then spend the $200 on bling! You'll get to know your bike much better, I do mine pretty often and always find something to clean. If you do need someone to do it, I know Flywheels used to have someone who detailed bikes. You could always ask Big T or Six95 what size tooth brushes they use, they have some pretty clean bikes. Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: FIFO on September 02, 2009, 12:08:07 AM I Will give it a polish for $200. ;D Or i should say Detail the bike. And give it a good once over. pm me. serious ;) Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: craigo on September 02, 2009, 01:00:48 AM +1 on do it yourself and spend the cash on bling.

Gotta watch you step around that part of Sydney. :o Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Big T on September 02, 2009, 01:04:04 AM You could always ask Big T or Six95 what size tooth brushes they use, they have some pretty clean bikes. I use the soft bristle tooth brush with the extra reach..... [thumbsup] [cheeky] Seriously it is easy to do your self........ Bucket of warm water with wax car wash.... Paint (tooth) brushes of various sizes to get into all the nooks and crannies..... Soft cotton damp rag (to wipe where water probably shouldn't go)...... Hose with trigger nozzle on "shower" (to gentle hose off the soapy wash)..... Leaf blower set on blow..... Soft and cuddle towel (to wipe the virgins down....)...... Mr Sheen applied with cotton jocks (washed first of course)..... Do a section of the bike at a time starting at the top (careful where you spray soap/water hence the "Soft cotton damp rag")..... Use leaf blower to remove water from all the nooks and crannies (carefully)..... Towel off (the virgins love this bit)..... Apply Mr Sheen to all surfaces (excluding brakes of course...) and shin up with the jocks (makes removing road crap easier in the future as well).... Sit back and admire your work (after a few hours work) over a nice Chai Latte...... [coffee] [bow_down] Works for me.... :o :o 8) 8) PS: Works for Mountain Bikes as well.... PSS: Yeeaaa I know to much time on my hands.... Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Spider on September 02, 2009, 01:38:56 AM and turtle wax for carbon.

Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Six95 on September 02, 2009, 05:52:59 PM I cant really offer too much advice as I have never ridden in the wet. My wife knows to go shopping or to sleep once I come back from a ride. I have this OCD thing where I cannot put my baby to bed until it's immaculate.
My bike has never been under the hose either. It always gets wiped down Meguiars quick detailer then followed by a coat of Mequiars quick wax. Both of these are used on the paint work, trellis and the engine (horizontal cylinder). I take care of any chain spray with wax and grease remover. Damp chamois for the underside, swingarm, wiring and hoses. There is this cleaner you can get from Big buns called "Muck-off" which I use on the front cyclinder around the header which takes care of most of the baked on grime - and yes - I use an old toothbrush. In between the fins - I use a paddlepop stick covered in a rag then dipped in wax n grease remover, then repeat with it dipped in water. I only do this to the front cylinder again. Good Luck..... Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Betty on September 02, 2009, 06:34:49 PM I'm sorry ... that's just make the beast with two backsed up!
Seriously I couldn't find a cleaner front cylinder/head thingy on the factory tour ... I shit you not. OCD ... bullshit, its well past that [laugh] [cheeky] Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Six95 on September 02, 2009, 07:56:34 PM I'm sorry ... that's just make the beast with two backsed up! Seriously I couldn't find a cleaner front cylinder/head thingy on the factory tour ... I shit you not. OCD ... bullshit, its well past that [laugh] [cheeky] I'm aiming for gold at the 2020 Concours d'Elegance. Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: mattyvas on September 02, 2009, 10:05:41 PM I think if you bring it along for the Concourse on 20th Sept you'll win something.
I'll vote for it being best OCD rider/owner! It is very very clean, but I'm most likely jealous that mine isn't as clean. I am trying though, will be at the auto store tomorrow buying products and brushes from 1.5mm-25mm Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: goldFiSh on September 03, 2009, 05:26:27 AM I'm with betty on this subject.. you guys have far too much time on your hands ..
fark I don't even have time to ride it at the moment, let alone clean it.... Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Spider on September 03, 2009, 12:08:15 PM I do like a nice shiny drivetrain...but that comes from the cycling background where clean = quiet and fast and accurate shifting
I mr sheen the 3 bits I try and paint my engine black - pre-emptive strike against grime, same with black or charcoal wheels. Doesn't take long to get a 80 to 90% clean....it's the extra 10% for concourse that takes hours! Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: ducsport on September 04, 2009, 02:57:23 AM I'm with betty on this subject.. you guys have far too much time on your hands .. fark I don't even have time to ride it at the moment, let alone clean it.... Don't listen to 'em Six - OCD cleaning rules. I will happily while away an hour or two in the garage gratuitously cleaning some part or other. Each to his own... [thumbsup] Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: Paul W on October 01, 2009, 09:15:34 PM Probably two stupid questions here....
1) With the Barry Sheen on the rims, can you spray it on and then hose off with water? I have found in the past that it can be a PITA to wipe off with a rag? 2) The Meguiars wax is OK to use on plastic (i.e. the moster tank)? I have to clean my babe for the first time this weekend, and I am a little cautious as to what I should use. Reading on another thread the septics were raving about 'pledge' for the whole bike (tank, wheels, frame), but I am not sure what our equivalent here would be, and/or if there is a better option? Cheers Paul Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: mattyvas on October 01, 2009, 10:10:50 PM Hi Paul,
Firstly welcome along, do pop into the introduce yourself thread and give us your details. Personally I use CT-20 truck wash for the whole bike. Then two chamios for the different areas of the bike. I quick once over with the Meguirars quick wax, used to be called final inspection. Run around the wheels with bug & tar remover and I'm done in about an hour. Happy cleaning. Title: Re: advice on full spit and polish in sydney Post by: FIFO on October 01, 2009, 10:15:56 PM Hey Paul it ain't rocket science ;)
The main thing is to clean it. and not with strong alkaline soaps. Must be some sort of car wash And every one has there own proven methods and products. As for pledge or mr sheen all clean good but i am not sure on there long term protection quality's out in the UV(sun)and water resistance. As my son has a part time job at autobarn helps as we get to try allot of products. Due to the drought there have been some good water saving car cleaners hydro shine to name one, which i have used for cleaning the monster. The best one is Bowdens body detail in a pump 750ml spray http://www.bowdensown.com.au/premium-car-carealternative (http://www.bowdensown.com.au/premium-car-carealternative) to washing in water, and if the bike is not covered in mud. (cleans enhances gloss,UV shield, anti static, repells dust)Can be used on all surfaces.I clean the engine, wheels the whole bike with the stuff Meguiar's ultimate quick wax is new out and found it very good on the tank. Looks like Mattys onto the Ultimate Quick wax as well ;) |
