Last night I went and saw The Honey Brothers at a local venue. I had heard them on myspace and thought they were good, but what I didn't know was that the drummer is Adrian Grenier from Entourage. He seemed really chill but I didn't want to approach him because I didn't want to be THAT annoying fan you know? I figured he was there to play music and have a good time, not deal with fans.
Anyway, who have you met in person and how did you react?
I met Charlie Hunter at Jazz Alley here in Seattle after watching one of his shows. He and his drummer were sitting at the bar having a beer, so I asked if they'd sign the CD I just bought. They were both really nice and talked to me and my buddy for a few minutes.
just randomely on the street, Ice-T @ Melrose, Sylvester Stalone @ Pinks hot dogs, Ellen Degenerous @ Chevron, John Ritter @ Jerrys famous deli, Carmen Electra @ Palace night club, those are the ones i actually talked to, countless number i didnt approach cause they were with family, or unapproachable.
Thats one of the things i miss about living close to Hollywood seeing all the people in real life you are used to seeing on TV.
Bruce Campbell rode in the front of an ambulance with me. He was a royal pain. Some Hollywood friends of his were in a car wreck and we transported to RVMC.
I met Robin Williams in Oakland years ago. We chatted for a bit . He was cool.
Most memorable - shared a 1st class aisle with the director John Waters between Denver and Baltimore. He wasn't very talkative, but I didn't push as I didn't want to be "that guy." Funny part was I ran into him at a bar in Baltimore at a Jonathan Richman show like the next week. Still not very talkative, but he did recognize me.
Rode an elevator with Ossie Davis once.
I've met many musicians only because I have some serious starmake the beast with two backser friends in my life.
Jay Leno twice. Funny thing is, he remembered my Cafe-Racer when I saw him the 2nd time... Pretty cool.
Queen Latifah once. She was trying to get me to install a part on her H2 for free. [roll]
Geena Davis at a restaurant once. She gave me the warmest smile like she knew me and we never talked. Funny...
Couple more. Can't remember right now.
In no particular order. I have actually exchanged words with the following:
russell crowe
kid rock
patrick dempsey
nick lachey
drew lachey
Rupert from Survivor (not sure if he is famous, but one hell of a cool guy)
John Mellencamp
Jason Priestly
Peyton Manning
All of them were nice.
My wife worked in the film industry from about 5 years. She has worked with a lot of celebs and for the most part they have been cool. She claims that the coolest were Tom Hanks And Wes Studi. John Goodman and Nicole Kidman where the worst.
met collective soul and drivin` and cryin` over the weekend...
the guys from drivin` and cryin` were looking for some, stuff, before the show...
I find out today if I won a chance to meet and greet with Metallica before their show in Cinnci next Tuesday. I really hope I do. [evil]
I never go up to any celebrities, but I have met mostly athletes. I was hanging out with my first born in LA Fitness when Scottie Pippen started talking to me about his kid. When I was working in the Domican Republic I was upgraded and got a chance to sit behind Pedro Martinez and his wife, sitting next to his brother Ramon. His brother was pretty cool. They got swamped as soon as we landed.

That is sort of the situation I was in when I met Peyton Manning last year at an Indy 500 after party.
People would just walk up to him and pretty much suck his dick how good he was, etc. etc.
We sort of crossed paths and I told him my wife doesn't like him and prefers Tom Brady. He started laughing, wife kicks me in the shin, and Peyton and I end up talking for 30 minutes about random shit. He even bought me a beer.
just this weekend i've hung out with ben bosrom, larry pegram, tommy and earl hayden and kevin schwantz....schwants nearly killed a friend of mine as well.
We saw Matt Leinart at the mall yesterday. My girlfriend wanted to go talk to him but he looked pretty douchey. No body else seemed to recognize him from what I saw.
Suprisingly no one has met Chuck Norris!!
This past New Years Eve we met Lewis black after his Phx performance! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
Met Hayden Pannetiere when she was filming a movie on my ship, Lorenzo Lamas and Yao Ming also came on my ship and toured the medical department. Met Hoobastank after a concert a few months ago.
I did some Kung Fu performances with Shin Koyamada a long time ago. Met Sammo Hung at a Chinese New Year parade.
I cleaned up Buck Owens rice pilaf once.
I watched Uncle Buck while I ate rice pilaf and cleaned the house once.

Back on topic I also met Jason Priestly in 1998 at the Montreal F1 race. He was racing a Mustang in one of the other series. I made my way around BSing with some of the drivers/mechanics etc. and next thing I know I'm shooting the shit about cars with him.
Yes he was very personable. Just another one of the guys.

I met him maybe 2000-2001 when he was driving in the Indy Pro Series.
My roomie was racing in the series and I was staying in his motorcoach the Nashville weekend; Jason's motorhome was parked next door.
I talked to him several times, the guy is a huge smoker and talks like a sailor.
I thought he was very cool as well.
Met Jay Leno recently. Nice guy.
Met Carl Perkins a few times
Used to date a "celebrity" plastic surgeon about 10 years before he got his reality show. I had a good laugh when I saw him on TV.
Met Courtney Love - she was pretty strung-out and obnoxious.
Met whichever one is the brunette from Cagney and Lacey
Rufus Thomas was super-nice.
Got to party on the bus with the Hooters back when they opened for Loverboy in the 80's(my friend was a groupie)
Got to talk with Paul Smart, and now I have a crush on him.
Never talked to him, but used to see Elvis all the time when I was a kid. We lived near Graceland and my parents would always point him out in grocery stores or restaurants.
Made small talk with John Grisham a couple of times in the grocery store checkout lane when I lived in Oxford, MS.
I think that's it.
The cast from The Young Riders used to hang out at The Tucson Racquet Club when I worked there in '90..Stephen Baldwin, Josh Brolin, etc.
Hans Gruber from DieHard (Alan Rickman) in Tucson.
Joan Jett sat next to me on a flight around '82. The Blackhearts sat behind me. Joan talked to me and was very nice but I only remember her perfume and how strong it was!! [puke]
Judge Reinhold at Old Tucson Studios.
Nicky Hayden at MotoGP-Mugello. Talked to him for a few minutes.
I carried Ted Nugent's groceries out to his truck back around '88 when he was on his way up north for deer hunting season in MI.
A few more too working in the hospitals that I can't mention. :-X

I've met quite a few famous and infamous people and really they all were just normal. I don't go all ga-ga over celebrities though.
The only exception were Twiggy Ramirez and Madonna Wayne Gacy from Marilyn Manson when they were touring with NIN. Those guys were odd and had no interest in mingling with the general populous.

I met Rob Thomas on two seperate occasions.

I've met a shit ton of network "reality stars"
holy shit
doucheeebaggssssssss
The best I remember is Average Joe Adam, the first one.
That dude didn't know me from a random in the green room and proceeded to want my number to find out where the party was that night; he must have called me 3-5 times later that day. I never returned his calls.
He apparently didn't know I was just a real average joe............maybe even less.
I'll post pictures tomorrow.
I've met a lot of b-movie stars and directors, hardcore/punk/metal musicians and hockey players. I'm fortunate to have been pretty successful in my hobbies I suppose.
If you treat "celebrities" like normal people, they are cool.
I won't get in to specifics about why I went up to speak with Peyton Manning, but it was more of a "bullshit, he is probably normal"
Let's just say after my time with him, he bought me a beer and we talked a large range of topics ending with if he could run a fantasy football team, which he can't because of NFL rules.
He is a tall guy, I am a short, he was leaning down to me, with his arm around my shoulder.
My buddy who has met him was like "well, if there is one person that could hang with Peyton, it would be Jud"
famous people want to be normal; you treat them that way, you will talk and interact with them as a regular person you don't know.

I ran into Kareem Abdul Jabar in an airport in Lubbock Texas. He was turning people away who asked for autographs ("I'm not doing that right now") and looking like he wished he was shorter and less conspicuous. It was only my keen sense of decorum and fear of being crushed by a 7'2" human that kept me from approaching him and saying "We have clearance, Clarence. Roger, Roger."
Met Bill Clinton - dead fish of a handshake, nice enough guy.

It was actually just bad timing on my behalf.
I've met Jon Bon Jovi, Jimmy Hoffa Jr, a few of the Portland Trailblazers (Maurice Lucas, Jerome Kersey, Kevin Duckworth, Larry Steel, Herm Gilliam{he had both a NCAA Championship & NBA Championship ring}), Gen'l Norman Shwartzkoff, Nick Cage, and I was in the bar when Courtney LOve & Kurt Cobain met.

I got to meet Tommy Lasorda in highschool. He came to speak to the school, and I got to hang out with him and show him around. Turns out he knew my great uncle/cousin or something like that and our picture together ended up on the front page of the Italian Tribune. He was a nice guy, and I don't think we even talked about baseball.
I don't know if I would even care to meet a movie star unless it was a hot chick. I don't watch much TV or even go to the movies so I'm not sure I would get all that excited. I think the same goes for pro athletes.
Depends on your definition of celebrities.
My dad was a GS15 in charge of the Army portion of the DoD budget, and would testify in front of congress every year. Mom liked to throw dinner parties for 50-100 people in our backyard every summer. Many times, security for the party was furnished by the secret service, due to members of the guest list.
Ted Kennedy always liked moms grashopper pie.
Nancy Reagan had dietary issues, and mom would make several desserts special so she could eat something.
Those are just a couple that I can remember off the cuff.
During college, I got to ride in one of the Grateful Deads tour buses from Redrock CO to Oklahoma, and talk with Jerry and Bill Kreutzman.
Met Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer backstage after one of their shows. I think it was at the 9:30 club.
REM crashed at my house in B-more one night. This was just before their first album came out.
3 years ago I worked on Missy Elliots mamas new house, and met miss Elliot several times.
Met Michael Vick several times as well. This was waay before he got in trouble.
Back in 1985, I worked in a car stereo store in Rockville MD installing car phones. I met every member of the Redskins that year, the coaches, etc.

Despite three years in Manhattan, working on Capitol Hill for nearly a decade (politicians don't count here -- believe me, meeting most of them in person isn't all that memorable. Well, except for Rahm Emanuel. That guy leaves an impression.), flying from DC to Hollywood probably a dozen times in a completely misbegotten effort to get stars involved in environmental causes in a job after that, and now working doing marketing for a regional performance hall that brings in 20 or so national acts a year, here's the best I can do:
Amy Smart.
No offense to Ms. Smart (who actually is quite bright, fwiw), but that's not a lot to show for all those years...

In his prime he probably would have been better than Sir Elton John. ;)
Rod Price (guitarist for Foghat) used to live around here. He taught guitar to my colleague and hung around at his house.
Julia Child - very interesting to talk to.
Jimmy Stewart - chatted with him about planes when I was in high school and taking flying lessons. I didn't realize who he was (thought he was some retired codger doing a bad Jimmy Stewart impression) at the officers' club until my dad said "General Stewart, I see you've met my son." Nearly died on the spot.

I was rolling already, so I didn't even see her.
My buddy said: " Ummm... *no*."
Kid Rock, 2008. Indianapolis Motor Speedway Carb Day. Became friends with Lincoln Park's Manager, who managed Bobby (Kid Rock) and was just starting to manage him again. Got to hang out with Kid on his tour bus afterwards. He was pretty cool and he only drinks Peroni [thumbsup]

I think this was the 2005 Indianapolis 500. Russell was there because my buddy's car had Heartland Film Festival Sponsorship and Russell was involved with it. He was really nice.

In no particular order;
James Woods
Mark Walberg
Johnny Depp
Andy Moog
Ray Bourque
Cam Neely
Adam Oates
Jason Allison
Nikki Sixx
Vince Neal
Dee Snider
Everlast
Rush Limbaugh
B-Real
and Lemmy. I actually became friends with Lemmy's assistant and keep in touch.
few more I forgot about;
Steven Tyler
Hulk Hogan
Steve Jobs
Sir Richard Branson
Bill Russell
one more;
Mike Tyson
I spent a weekend at a hotel and kept bumping into Joe Estevez (Martin Sheen's brother). Alex Vincent wanted to fight me (he's the guy who was the little kid in the first two child's play movies) because I blew up his spot with some girl through my karaoke styles (long story). I watched my friend haggle with Nikolai Volkoff for almost 5 minutes over the price of an autographed 8x10. That's the kind of (non)celebrity encounters that fill my life.

Wow..haven't heard that name in a couple decades! I remember watching Nikolai and the Iron Sheik wrestling the likes of Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, the British Bulldogs, etc. on Saturday afternoons.
I stood next to Jeff ward at cal expo once. He was talking with someone else about the track. It was then that I realized theses super stars are just like everybody else.

Austin gym in Dallas. I think it was 94-95 ish. He was working out on the bench next to me. I didn't want to approach him for fear of the fist in his beard. He nodded at me. You know that kinda "What's up" nod.

Elle Macpherson, at the Easter Show, on the slippery dip. :-\
I started thinking about this and I actually have met some celebs.
When I was a kid they blew up a house about 10 miles down the road for an episode of Walker: Texas Ranger. I got to meet Chuck Norris...but I didn't say anything, just shook his hand.
Couple years ago we were in the in-field saturday night at Texas motor speedway on a NASCAR weekend (my father in law's company sponsors Richard Childress Racing team). They were cooking some BBQ and a few drivers were coming in an out. I met RC, and was chatting with a guy about motorcycles...he had people walking up and shaking his hand randomly and taking pictures. Turns out it was Carl Edwards...a NASCAR driver.
Oh...and Eddie Hill lived where we just moved from. I'd see him around town sometimes in his Ariel Atom. Used to try to get him to race me on my Duc [laugh]
This past weekend alone I met a ton....
;D
Mr. I
Nate
Dan
Ducatini
MonsterLover
Knightni
Gage
Hooligan Machinist
Rogue
DesmoDiva
Howie
Chronic Lurker
Lethe
Ducvet
XJDave
Nakid
I know I am leaving out a few.......
;D
My wife bartended in Daytona for a few years.
She met a shit ton of NASCAR driver's.
The best was the night before the Daytona 500 about 4-5 years ago, this one guy was wearing a budweiser hat and was getting free bud's because he had a comp card.
He was hitting on her, throwing 100$ tip every beer, etc.
Ended up giving her his number on a napkin and said to call later.
She smiled and said "sure"
turns out it was Dale Jr.
She had no idea nor did she care; that napkin got thrown away as soon as his back was to her.
let's see, more politicians than celebrities...
Frank Purdue
Mary Travers
Dustin Hoffman
John Kerry (refused to shake his hand)
Chris Shays
Sargent Shriver
The more appropriate honor would be how many celebrities have met me? [laugh] Cause I'm cool like that. [evil]

Hahahaha, she's usually a little better than that....
Only ones notable I ever recall meeting were Mario Andretti (he has a house near here), Larry Shinoda (he died shortly after, I didn't do it), Reeves Callaway (nice guy, talked to him a bit and had him sign a Callaway Corvette hat that I bought) and also had Paul Smart sign my Indy hat last year.

This won't mean anything to most of you, but I got to play Beethoven's 9th in Chicago's Orchestra Hall conducted by Sir Georg Solti. [bow_down] [bow_down]
AWESOME!!! [bow_down]
I know, I'm a music geek...
I played Mussorsky/Borodin's "Pictures At An Exhibition" in Carnegie Hall in NYC back in '93. Hung out with Eric Lewis of the Manhattan String Quartet afterwards.
Met a few movie stars/musicians/sports stars too. I'll post up later, I'm supposed to be teaching now... [cheeky]

Somegirl... What instrument, or are you a vocalist?
I play violin. You?
Percussion/drums. Basically anything I can hit or bang. ;D
Unfortunately, the only time I've played since moving to CA 5 1/2 years ago was when I sat in with the band at DIMBY-West last spring. :'(
Do you play often?
Yes, all the time, both orchestra and chamber music.
Sooo jealous... I miss it. :-\
Ok, threadjack over....
Let's see, Celebrities:
Lunch with Halle Berry, dinner with Julie Delpy (French actress), almost ran over Ice-T with a handtruck stacked with crates of Yoo-Hoo (long story), played basketball with the Black Eyed Peas all summer of '99, rugby in the Seattle Civic Center parking lot with Lit and The Living End, hung backstage with the Buzz Poets, Dropkick Murphy's, Less Than Jake. Saw Ron Jeremy at various eating establishments (instant loss of appetite), and a couple others I can't remember... Yikes! How exciting.... 8)

That is one awesome piece of music!! [thumbsup] Hands down the favorite piece I've ever played in band. We played it my 2nd year in college (also in '93)...nowhere near Carnegie hall though. [cheeky] I'm also a drummer. [thumbsup]

Ya, it was pretty amazing. I'd seen concerts Carnegie Hall before, but never onstage. One of my professors knew one of the percussionists of the City Orchestra. They needed extra hands in the pit (huge percussion section needed). For the finale, I was wedged between a ginormous bass drum and rather large gong, with the French horn section on my left. Earplugs were DEFINATELY needed! :o The coolest thing was that I was listed on a separate insert in the program as a "guest performer". Made me out to be more important than I really was... [laugh]
have met jeff goldblum at the laemmle theatres at sunset 5 on crescent heights/sunset blvd.
