Title: How hot can they run Post by: MostroS2R on September 14, 2009, 04:31:10 AM I find that my S2r runs hotter since my 12k service and my exhaust removal. How hot can these motors go.
Hit 250f in traffic. Air temp was about 73. Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: Slide Panda on September 14, 2009, 05:39:24 AM 250? No worries. My 620 always ran 26X and then some if I got stuck in traffic
Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: faolan01 on September 14, 2009, 06:14:46 AM I've seen my temp gauge go past 300 on at least two occasions. I don't recommend letting it get anywhere near there, but other than feeling like I was going to roast as well I didn't run into any actual problems either time.
Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: Duc Fever on September 14, 2009, 07:03:09 AM I ocassionally hit 300+ in bumper to bumper traffic here in Dallas. As long as your High Temp light does not come on you should be fine.
Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: MostroS2R on September 14, 2009, 07:56:19 AM Thanks guys. This is my first air cooled bike.
Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: Goat_Herder on September 14, 2009, 09:46:25 AM I hit 250+ in traffic earlier in the summer. I think my manly bits and thighs were melting long before the engine would be affected by the heat.
Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: Frosty_spl on September 14, 2009, 10:10:46 AM Apparently the HI light comes on at 330
I got nervous when mine got to 257. Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: kingbaby on September 14, 2009, 11:03:03 AM Apparently the HI light comes on at 330 I got nervous when mine got to 257. On your air cooled bikes that's the # for the light, and still it doesn't mean your bike is about to ignite, it's more like an "Idiot" light on a car. It's telling you if you haven't noticed "Your leathers are melting to the frame!". Air cooled bikes show big #'s and are made to do it. I remember very, very few twins (Euro or US) that were sold in the past 15 years that heat was the killing machine. Your mid to high 200 numbers are fantastic. Water cooled...Not so much. Simple rules: Key words, Air cooled. If you are in traffic, use the least amount of throttle as possible...without torturing your clutch (Imagine how upset it is?). Whats up with all the revin'? oops, wrong brand 8) Heat (that you feel) is good. If you don't feel it, guess where it's staying? That = Not good. Title: Re: How hot can they run Post by: LA on September 14, 2009, 11:19:20 AM Is the temp being reported from oil or what?
If the oil temp is 330 then the main and rod bearing temp must somewhat higher. Bearings aren't made from solder, but they smear smear at some temp. Wonder at what temp? Somebody must know - I'm sure the factory does. ???
