Title: Reason 157.5 not to take your 911 swimming
Post by: Porsche Monkey on September 15, 2009, 10:33:35 AM
This is what happens to the alarm control unit when you take your Porsche swimming

Sorry for the IZ quality pics, that white fuzz is yummy corrosion where everything shorted out.

Not really any diagnostical magic this time.  We had some serious rain over the weekend.  First time in months we have had any rain.  Unfortunatly for some of my customers it is very common for them to not have common sense.  We see this all the time and have two cars in for the same thing right now, both convertibles.  Usually they will leave the top down or drive through deep water, 6" or more.  Stick your hand behind the seat and if the carpets wet you can bet the alarm control unit is too.  When I started working on the car the windows would go up and down by themselves, the convertible top would not function, and of course the car would not start.  All have inputs in the alarm CU.  I unfastened the alarm and lifted it up while still plugged in and brown water poured out.  Then the convertible top started working.   ;D

???  [bang] [bang] [bang]

So these cars have been removed from these hostile environments, and will be given to good homes?

The first pic looks like the mainboard in my cell phone after a good 15 minutes in the pool (yes, in my pocket)

Not all of em.  Maybe only a handfull. This is the second time this repair has been done on this car. Not trying to imply anything but he's a lawyer.  :o
