Title: All New MV Agusta Brutale for 2010?
Post by: Travman on September 28, 2009, 04:33:03 PM
Supposedly this an all new bike with 85% new parts.  The only things I see that are new are the wheels and the integrated turn signals & mirrors.  I'm afraid this may be Harley-Davidson's idea of an all new bike.

BRUTALE NEW ERA: 85% of the components are new and were DESIGNED BY MV AGUSTA

There is little left of the old Brutale model, as 85% of the parts have been completely redesigned. From the aesthetics, to the engine, to the rolling chassis, no component can be interchanged with those of the previous versions.

Among the new parts:

Front wheel rim, either gravity die-cast, or forged
Front brake disk
Suspensions Internals (oil dynamics and components of the front fork)
Instrument cluster (design, logic definition and information handling)
Brake pump with integrated tank
Headlight
Mirrors with directional indicators
Handlebar
Handgrips
Steering damper

Fuel pump
Fuel filler cap
Inner damper (oil dynamics and inside components)
Rear swingarm
Rear turn signals
Taillight
Pressure die-cast rear taillight support
Rear wheel hub, either gravity die-cast, or forged
Many of these parts have been designed and crafted by MV Agusta, rather than sourced from market suppliers, thereby affording technical and aesthetic perfection

Handlebars, grips, turn signals, rear taillight support, etc. all advertised as new items!  [laugh] OK

MV Agusta are the kings of trotting out last year's bike with a new paint job every year. I suspect this will be the same unfortunately.

Bummer...I'd like to see a new bike from them.

The only influence HD could have on that bike is if they added 85% more weight.

"Using the knowledge gained from a winning tradition of racing excellence with 38 world championship titles and 37 manufacturers' championships alongside motorcycle icon Giacomo Agostini, MV Agusta focused on producing the most versatile Brutale to date,..."

are they winning these days in a series that I don't follow?

I am skeptical that this is really a new model.  It looks and probably is really just more of the same.  I don't believe that 85% of the parts are new.

I'm afraid that their models will follow the HD pattern of infrequent updates.  Don't get me wrong.  I think the Brutale is a awesome bike that looks even better in person.

well, if you think about it, any change could make a part a 'new' part.... 1mm larger frame tubing, or different alloy, or different weight (or brand) of fork oil, or small tweaks to whatever can certainly be marketed as new

switching vendors from xyz to abc can be a new part even without changing the design...

Apparently they won the 2008 Italian SBK Championship. No other actuall racing is mentioned though, other than a failed plan to join the 2008 WSBK.

They ran in AMA superbike last year with f4's not brutale's.  They did OK, I think it was Ferrachi that was running them.

Not right now.  I am still enjoying my current Monster which is new to me since this May.  However, I've always thought these were awesome bikes.  This feeling has been intensified since seeing several at my local Ducati shop.  Also, I've seen a few for sale locally with very low miles and very reasonable prices.  So this has got me thinking about the possibilities.

They ride fantastic.

Not impressed with their build quality (at least, on the only one I've been involved with). The reputation for crappiness everyone seems to think Ducati has? It's been accurate for the Brutale.

They ride fantastic.

You forgot to mention the binary throttle control.

There's about 1 mm position difference between "I ain't got power" and "Holy shit I'm flying off the back of the bike!" :o.

Bike is well named. ;)

What are the maintenance costs on the brutales?

We've been doing all the work but so far we've had:

Headlight coming out of housing.
Mysterious "hitch" at 6k RPM. Took a few trips to the dealer to sort out. That being right smack in the powerband, it sort of sucked to ride.
Leaky countershaft seal (requires a large teardown). Still I/P.

This has about 15k miles on it so far. Not impressed.

Pretty neat launch video.  Problem is, I don't recognize the guy at the desk... Definately not the guy that penned the lines on this bike.  Tamburini, wherefore art thou???

What kills me about this bike is that it has less HP and Torque that the 1078 model.  It also weighs more...WTF??  >:(

It is the same bike.  Somebody at MV Agusta just printed out a different (probably closer to the truth) spec sheet.

Big manufacturer doing a commercial with guys pullin' wheelies on open roads & goin' out partying.

In the states, it's going through the canyons at the speed limit, and looking "cool" in a parking lot & smiling alot.

Gotta love the Euro way of life  [thumbsup]

(watching this promo video may not be safe for children. Don't watch if you are faint at heart, or you are a teetotaler. do not watch this if you think the product will get you laid.  do not ...)  ;D

one of my best friends recently got a 910r and it is ok i guess. the real let down for him i think has been the limited number of things that we can do to it. there is just not much out there for it and what there is is really expensive and hard to get. i think it is very comparable to my s4rs performance wise. so if you have the loot it comes down to what you like.

on a side note there is a guy with a S4 around here that dosent wave to any one (like he is to cool) but i have only seen him riding twice in two years so....
