Title: Naked Superbike or a super monster
Post by: Nakedsuperbiker on October 01, 2009, 03:51:21 PM
I traded the 696 for a streetfighter yesterday and was wondering if I should call it a Monster Also with it replacing the S4R or stick with the Naked Superbike title?
With the F1098 priced only a grand over the M1100S it was a tough choice.

Well, I think the fighter is really just a naked superbike (ergonomics and all). And I don't think Ducati recognizes it as a "monster" which makes me wonder if they have something up thier sleeve. It wasn't long after the 696 that they introduced the 1100. My thinking is that they introduce the 797 Hyper and then in 6 months they go and introduce a 4 valve monster. It has been too successful for them not to have a 4v monster with 120+ HP. And may I add, you are one lucky sob.

Close enough to a Monster for me.  I finally had an opportunity to look one over closely and sit on it the other day and was, way impressed.  Fine motorcycle!  The position of the rider over the front end is much different than the feel of the RS Monster by feel anyway.  I was offered a ride on it, but Greenville, SC traffic is not the place I'd pick to test out a SF.

The exhaust diameter is huge.  You are very fortunate to have one.  Careful though, that thing could hurt you quickly.

Enjoy. [thumbsup]

Yes I like the naked superbike title better but think Ill name her Lola.
I am using the cover from the monster for now it covers it with a little streach and only the bottom of the rims show. Got lucky with the 696 trade in since it had a lot of stuff added and after selling my race boat I was only out of pocket $ 1084 to trade up.
She's paid for and taking it easy the first 100 miles. The bike is very well behaved  at slow speeds and plenty of throttle to spare.
Doing freeway driving the top gear brings the rpm down 1k from the 696 doing the same speed so the mpg might even be better!
I rode the streetfighter on 3 different demos before I bought it with the 1198 and m1100 for compairison sake. I don't know what makes them so different but the 1100 I tested was a dog compaired to this one.

Oh come on LA.  If you were at Touring Sport in Greenville you were like 10 min. away from some decent back roads to play on.   [evil]  I am trin to live vicariously here as I wont be test riding anything like that anytime soon.

You realize you're comparing two entirely different beasts right?

Sure I do but you would think within 2cc's of each other there would be some more similarities.
I just turned 100 miles on the Streetfighter hear after known as Lola the reserve light came on and off and on and off a few times more times with city driving until it finaly stayed on and I topped her off at the 76 station for $10.
She is happiest charging hard and only needs 2nd or 3rd gear to exceed the speed limits around town. Getting on the freeway she has 3 more gears as she bounds into traffic with authority.
Quick shifts really make her boogie I was so used to winding up my FZ6 before shifting.

I'm really glad I got the bike now after riding her for a few days and have no complaints. The surging the Monster had around 4k rpm doesn't happen and light throttle on her around 3k she seems to need more gas to over come any hesitation.
I got lucky the Monster cover I had fits like a glove although a little tight almost better than on the 696 with no saggy spots.

hu?
The ergonomics are really very very different than the superbikes. Wheel base is different, riding position, seat, suspension, almost everything is different. Might I add, gloriously easy to ride and fun as sheit on a stick.

Well, I think the fighter is really just a naked superbike (ergonomics and all).

Ya. +1

I'm just getting out of the break in on the discs and slow phase of the motor break in keeping her under 102.
Nice power band so far now any flat spots like the 696.
Looking forward to the weekend she has a full tank and a lot of twisties ahead.

Sure I do but you would think within 2cc's of each other there would be some more similarities.

displacement numbers aren't everything. you're looking at a 2 valve air cooled vs. a 4 valve watercooled motor.

or to add to it, what about a liter 4-banger? similar displacement...

I can sure feel the difference between the 1100 and the 1098 now that I have been riding the bike a few days.

Hey ducatitorrey I noticed on your dark you got the db killas removed.
How long did you ride with them in? When I got my 696 they were missing and I needed ear plugs going any freeway or distances that loudness followed me everywhere.
I'm loving the stock cans on my F1098 now I can listed to music again with my iPod.

Very VERY jealous.  I have some financial things to take care of, and after that, pretty sure I'm getting either the StreetFighter or M1100S.

Both are awesome bikes for sure.   [bow_down] [bow_down] [bow_down]

i have a dark 696, but if i had the money and if both bikes were out at the time i bought mine, it would be either a m1100S black full termi, or a black SF. I actually think i would do the SF now. Its so sick! [bacon]

A pause for the cause.
I really like the lights under the headlight that stay on after the engine is off a minute.
My 696 had them too but they were dim compaired to the streetfighters.
This shot was taken going into my unlit garage with my iPhone camera with just those on.

To bad the black paint is only offered on the S. It's the same pearl that the white has they shot it on my trellis frame.
I'm considering swaping my lower red panels out with some black ones down the road to give the bike a more naked apperance. They are the most recogniseable feature from a distance I know a streetfighter when I see that piece.
Today I re-located those silver frame stickers to under the rear seat battery area, much cleaner looking now.
Nobody cares about the db rating, tire pressure, chain tension but me so only I can read them now.

Hey Guys they are selling both demo S models at Newport right now with termis already installed! Discounted over the price of a new bike OTD, buying them and having them installed for way less and I believe both have the first service already done. The F1098S just turned 1000 miles old and doesn't need anymore HP in my opinion the M1100S is fun too. [laugh]

They have my 696 for sale now also on the floor. The Termi's reminded me of cherry bombs on my 696.
I prefer the stock exhaust now after having both the termi's just increase noise and reduced MPG
with everyone complaining about stopping every 100 miles at best, one guy after installing his Termi''s on an 848 is getting 70 miles before the reserve light comes on. But he admitted to reving the motor and riding in the 6-7k range because he prefered the sound.  [drink]

decisions, decisions. Nice kind of problem.

08 1098S 16K mls with Akrapovic's: I get roughly 130 in town or canyon riding,  160+ highway.

I have a friend that stops no matter what on his 1098 every 100 mls (Has the Termi kit).  He still to this day says "Wow, it only held a couple of gallons"    [bang]

That is one sick SF I saw those rims when I was riding the 696 and was really jelious.
The lower fairing looks great in carbon did it go from 2 pieces into one that way, who make that part?
Some of the better looking mirrors I've seen too, already clipped a cars with mickeys ear.
Is that your bike?

One of my friends that prefers this bike the 696 seat cowl was just too hard to get on and off in a hurry.

I bought the CF belt covers from Shift-Tech. I believe its the same as the 1098.

Nakedsuperbiker: The cf lower fairing is one piece (stock is one piece also, just not painted all the way) and a direct bolt on.  Yes, its my SF and I get all my parts from Motowheels and Shift-Tech.

Sure I do but you would think within 2cc's of each other there would be some more similarities

My S4Rs streetbike has 998cc and makes 133 rwhp on my race shop's dyno.

My 1000SS trackbike has 992cc (6cc's less) and makes 87 rwhp on the same dyno.

That's a difference of 46 horsepower at the rear wheel.  In other words, the S4Rs makes MORE than 50% more horsepower than the 1000SS.

Liquid cooling and four valves per cylinder and a MUCH more oversquare bore/stroke ratio (the S4Rs engine is 100mm bore by 63.5 mm stroke while the 1000SS is 94mm bore by 71.5mm stroke)  makes a HUGE difference in the motors.

The 1000SS is no dog, though.  It makes almost the same torque as the S4Rs, and mine weighs 347 pounds, so it accelerates from a stop like the proverbial freight train.

Tim
