Title: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 06:17:13 PM What's your favorite eatery in ABQ and why?
The Princess likes St. Clair's, but I think it's because of the wine selection. We were there in June and the food was ordinary and the service... confused. We've eaten there before and it was fairly good. Did a New Years Eve at the Artichoke Cafe a few years ago and it was excellent. I have yet to find a good Italian restaurant here. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: kingbaby on October 01, 2009, 06:30:17 PM Italian here...Nope, sorry, got nothin'
My pick for local crave food: Zinc. Central ave. between Richmond & Girard. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 06:38:12 PM Will check it out.
No Italian? We did eat at a place whose name I can't recall and I thought it was very ordinary. Maybe I should open a restaurant, but I'm not sure I want to make the committment. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: Zaster on October 01, 2009, 06:46:25 PM What's your favorite eatery in ABQ and why? Try Scalo Northern Italian Grill in Nob Hill on Central east of UNM campus. Your other option might be Trombino's Bistro Italiano on Academy 2 blocks east of San Mateo. We spent a week in Rome this year and enjoyed every meal not to mention the wine. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 06:48:08 PM I've made a lot of business trips in the last 10 years, to notable American cities such as Dallas (Irving, actually), Atlanta, Ft. Myers, Jonesboro, Ark. Lots of common cultural threads in our great country- mostly traffic and malls. And chain restaurants. And I find that I really want to avoid them. Not that I haven't had some good meals, but I really can't stand the sameness.
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 06:53:56 PM Zaster- we spent 2 weeks inn a rented house in Umbria a few years ago with a few other couples. A few klicks from Tuscany. Never had a bad meal.
A well-prepared meal oozes the passion the chef has for cooking. It's like Joey at SuperMoto Italia (dealer I frequent back on Long Island) says about Ducati's: The Japanese make great bikes, but a Ducati has charisma". My goal is to spend 2 weeks in Bologna sometime in the next few years (meaning, before I get too old). Supposed to be the best food city in Italy. And then there's Ducati. Not that I haven't had some good meals, but I really can't stand the sameness. I'm with you....let me know how you like the two places I recommended. Being from Europe myself I have developed a taste for the local cuisine. Once you ready to experiment I'll be happy to give you my recommendations.Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 07:02:59 PM Thanks. I will report back.
I like New Mexican food, but, as a diabetic, I find a lot of it has too many carbs. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: kingbaby on October 01, 2009, 07:10:53 PM Other than that: Drive, or take the train to Santa Fe & hit: Anasazi, El Farol, Maria's, Coyote cafe, La Choza, Amavi, The Shed, Santa Cafe, Geromino (but only if you have a thick wallet)... the list goes on...and on...and on.
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 01, 2009, 07:12:16 PM Thanks, KB. I generally avoid Sante Fe, having been there several times. My wallet it not thick enough. There are many other parts of the state I want to see.
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on October 02, 2009, 09:12:14 AM me a huge pazzia fan, i would recommend Saggios on san predro between gibson and kathryn....

Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: kingbaby on October 02, 2009, 09:36:05 AM Mouse is in form today [clap]
We have been enjoying Farina, which is next door to Artichoke cafe. But I'm with mouse on the Zinc thang. A lot of these places are good, but this is great. Hell I'm down with Rudy's BBQ. No we're not in Texas, but thats where they are from. Wait! hold the presses! Johndhi's BBQ: Rio Grande & Griegos. [bow_down] Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on October 02, 2009, 11:23:46 AM Wait! hold the presses! Johndhi's BBQ: Rio Grande & Griegos. Two Fools is on Central just east of Zinc. They serve the best Irish pub fare I've had in the States. The Boxty is excellent, and I know that KB, Dusty, and DM rave on the fish and chips. They also have hard cider on tap!!! (Ummmmmmmmmm) [drink]
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on October 02, 2009, 12:06:10 PM man i cant believe we forgot about that place...sounds like we need to make a trip over there for a ducnite or a weekend luncheon ;D

Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: Randimus Maximus on October 02, 2009, 05:11:48 PM +1 to Scalo and Rudy's
Rancher's Club has killer grub too (if'n you have the budget). Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: Diavolo on October 04, 2009, 06:05:38 PM I like dinner at Indigo Crow in Corrales, very nice atmosphere and delicious foods. Haven't been there in forever so I guess I will have to go soon again.
Also, I love Season's. Just a nice atmosphere and the food is also very well done. I cook better than 90% of the restaraunts in town, so I generally enjoy fine dining in my neighborhood. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: kingbaby on October 05, 2009, 09:56:39 AM I'm down with all those

Owned & ran by two of my friends (twins), Kevin & Keith, so the food is great. I prefer the chef & servers at Zinc myself (I use to speak at their staff meetings, so I have gotten to know quiet a few of them), but you can't go wrong at either. Oh, and they have Savoy in the heights also. Dusty was LHAO this morning Diavolo, That's what I always say about these sub par (at best) expensive places where you could get something out of the frozen section that tastes the same. WTF Come over some night & we'll cook for the group. We also have a couple of others here that are pretty handy in the kitchen (Calling out THP or whatever you call yourself now, HP, cupcake, Ashley). THP never comes around... remember its foozball for him [roll] [laugh] but he is mean with BBQ and i loved Cupcake fried bread...mmmmm.. that would be nice to a get together one day and cook and eat and races or something [beer] Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: dusty on October 05, 2009, 11:21:12 AM Yeah, we haven't done a real "pot luck" in quite a while and it sounds like there are quite some chef's lingering out there. [wine] [bacon] [bow_down]
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 05, 2009, 01:34:49 PM I would love to do it and contribute an Italian dish. Don't know if our schedule will permit- we fly back to NY Monday morning.
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: DucMouse the Mighty on October 05, 2009, 01:42:15 PM we can always do it when u get back [beer]
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 05, 2009, 02:01:29 PM We' ll be back about Dec 12 through Jan 3. A Holiday get-together would be nice. I am a follower of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and we celebrate the generic "Holiday".
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 05, 2009, 07:36:28 PM Had a wonderful dinner at the Artichoke tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday. I may have gone 1 drink over the line (Black Sambuca with dessert).
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: Diavolo on October 05, 2009, 08:38:23 PM I think I will have to swing by Zinc again, thanks KB. I haven't been in forever. I've really enjoyed every time I have been there, but I usually end up taking a group of people and hardly have the time to just sit back and enjoy it. Maybe I can make it out there this weekend sometime.
Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: nicrosato on October 07, 2009, 07:20:46 PM It was our first time at Zinc and it was wonderful. Small but exquisite menu, great service, and a not-too-stuffy ambiance.
The company contributed to the ambiance, I'm sure. Title: Re: Restaurants Post by: kingbaby on October 08, 2009, 05:19:10 PM dusty, mouse & I met KRJ @ Two Fouls this eve. Great as always.
He is meeting us at Java Joes @ 9 in the morning if any of you can make it. Then we're off to PJ's to make a plan for our next move on the S2R bobber. Cloner, Play hooky til noon.
