What's your favorite eatery in ABQ and why?
The Princess likes St. Clair's, but I think it's because of the wine selection. We were there in June and the food was ordinary and the service... confused. We've eaten there before and it was fairly good.
Did a New Years Eve at the Artichoke Cafe a few years ago and it was excellent.
I have yet to find a good Italian restaurant here.

Will check it out.
No Italian? We did eat at a place whose name I can't recall and I thought it was very ordinary.
Maybe I should open a restaurant, but I'm not sure I want to make the committment.

Try Scalo Northern Italian Grill in Nob Hill on Central east of UNM campus.
Your other option might be Trombino's Bistro Italiano on Academy 2 blocks east of San Mateo.
We spent a week in Rome this year and enjoyed every meal not to mention the wine.

I've made a lot of business trips in the last 10 years, to notable American cities such as Dallas (Irving, actually), Atlanta, Ft. Myers, Jonesboro, Ark. Lots of common cultural threads in our great country- mostly traffic and malls. And chain restaurants. And I find that I really want to avoid them. Not that I haven't had some good meals, but I really can't stand the sameness.

Zaster- we spent 2 weeks inn a rented house in Umbria a few years ago with a few other couples. A few klicks from Tuscany. Never had a bad meal.
A well-prepared meal oozes the passion the chef has for cooking. It's like Joey at SuperMoto Italia (dealer I frequent back on Long Island) says about Ducati's: The Japanese make great bikes, but a Ducati has charisma".
My goal is to spend 2 weeks in Bologna sometime in the next few years (meaning, before I get too old). Supposed to be the best food city in Italy. And then there's Ducati.

I'm with you....let me know how you like the two places I recommended. Being from Europe myself I have developed a taste for the local cuisine. Once you ready to experiment I'll be happy to give you my recommendations.

Thanks. I will report back.
I like New Mexican food, but, as a diabetic, I find a lot of it has too many carbs.

Other than that: Drive, or take the train to Santa Fe & hit: Anasazi, El Farol, Maria's, Coyote cafe, La Choza, Amavi, The Shed, Santa Cafe, Geromino (but only if you have a thick wallet)... the list goes on...and on...and on.

Thanks, KB. I generally avoid Sante Fe, having been there several times. My wallet it not thick enough. There are many other parts of the state I want to see.

Mouse is in form today
We have been enjoying Farina, which is next door to Artichoke cafe.
But I'm with mouse on the Zinc thang. A lot of these places are good, but this is great.
Hell I'm down with Rudy's BBQ. No we're not in Texas, but thats where they are from.
Wait! hold the presses! Johndhi's BBQ: Rio Grande & Griegos.

You guys forgot to tell Nic about the Two Fools. Two Fools is on Central just east of Zinc. They serve the best Irish pub fare I've had in the States. The Boxty is excellent, and I know that KB, Dusty, and DM rave on the fish and chips. They also have hard cider on tap!!! (Ummmmmmmmmm)
