Title: imagine my surprise Post by: vwboomer on October 08, 2009, 08:43:54 AM when my renewal for ins on my S4R came yesterday. Ive paid $170ish for almost 4 years on the two that I've owned. This renewal? $763. I'm told that somehow American Family must have missed that this is a 'superbike'. (its a super bike, but obviously not a superbike.) This was a voicemail left for me so I havent had a chance to argue my point yet as Im at work.
Seriously...763? Thats retarded. if they dont change their tune I'l pack up my 4 policies and go somewhere else. The bike is in no way worth paying that much for. makes me wonder what theyd try tobnick me for a VFR Ive been thinkin about. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: ODrides on October 08, 2009, 08:53:47 AM That's freaking ridiculous! There's probably a million threads about insurance, but definitely threaten to take your business elsewhere, then shop a few of the big names. I have home, cars, and bikes all with State Farm and I save a lot compared to when I had 3 different companies.
Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: arai_speed on October 08, 2009, 08:56:28 AM Progressive sent me a renewal of $935 for my S4RS. They said they were loosing money on moto policies so they were increasing the rates. :o
I skipped over to the green lizard and have been much happier since. [beer] Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: mitt on October 08, 2009, 09:05:18 AM After reading all the crashes on here the last month, I don't doubt it.

Is that $170 for 6 mos or 1 year and what coverage do you have? Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: ducatiz on October 08, 2009, 09:25:09 AM if y'all don't post what your coverage is (i.e. amounts and deductibles and full vs liability only) then it's a waste of time posting it. my buddy has only liability and was bragging his only cost him $150/year and mine was $200 more. i explained how he was a moron because he didn't understand that FULL COVERAGE means you have comprehensive/collision as well. he called up and they gave him a quote of $650/year. he wasn't laughing any more.

Begrudgingly. never heard that one. i've never been in an at-fault accident, but when my brand new volvo was totalled about 10 years ago by a stupid college girl yapping on her cel phone (and decided to make a 90 deg right turn on the jersey turnpike) i was sure glad she had insurance. granted, i had uninsured motorist, so i would have been covered, but the cost of my $40,000 car was on her ass otherwise, and try squeezing money out of someone when you need it cause they trashed your 3-month old car. i'd say it's worth it. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: ducrider45 on October 09, 2009, 06:51:56 AM Geico is based out of Montgomery Co Maryland (AKA The Peoples Republic of Montgomery County Maryland) I will not use them because of a stunt the pulled locally.
The donated “Ladar” speed guns to the local and State police. Normally I would be ok with such a gesture; But the reasons behind the donation were not very cool with me. If the donation was in the name of public safety, that would have been fine. Geico had other plans though. The reason for the donation was that with a much more reliable and accurate seed gun in the hands of the police the conviction rate would rise. With more speeding conviction they would now have a reason to raise rates across the whole State. Rates jumped up 40% in some areas. This was not ok with me. I left them and went to progressive. I soon dropped them as well. I’m now with State Farm and all is well. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: redxblack on October 09, 2009, 06:59:47 AM seed gun? sounds dirty.
I'm with state farm. They sweet talk me before they bend me over, so I stay with them. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: junior varsity on October 09, 2009, 07:07:22 AM i too am with SF.
I find insurance to be much like television providers. you more or less have to have it, and no matter which way you turn, there's somebody waiting to rape you. I currently 'enjoy' getting bent over by state farm, and by at&t u-verse. you might even call it consensual. I haven't found a company where i was overjoyed to be their client thus far, and don't think such a thing exists. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: redxblack on October 09, 2009, 07:10:38 AM I have state minimum liability on my 86 Honda CMX250 and it costs $16/yr. That's not a typo. I rarely ride the thing, but it's not street legal unless I carry insurance.

I'll be calling around to a couple insurers this week to get something rolling. This policy expires 10/29 and my house policy on 10/28 so not much time to waste. Damn, I was lovin' my price. I had half that coverage with the same deductable, at $138. but figured what the hell, it's cheap, so I bumped it up. Now I want to see what people are paying for this bike in Colo. The only thing less would be the Insurance co. paying you. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: Scottish on October 13, 2009, 07:43:16 AM Nope, you read it right. I was surprised and asked the gal on the phone when she told me my new rates. She said NM has higher rates across the board mostly because of higher un-insured rates. I've also noticed that typically areas with higher per capita earnings are going to have lower comparable rates.

You guys with policies will have to let us know. Like I said I had both S4R's insured for about 4 years and the rates were based solely on model year and displacement.
My guess is they updated their evil vin number database in an effort to get more money. Plus they're expensive bikes to repair. Title: Re: imagine my surprise Post by: vwboomer on October 30, 2009, 11:13:34 AM well i went with foremost. 239 for the same coverages. better than anyone else i could find on short notice.
I also insured the house with AAA providing 60k more coverage (she thought I needed it) and dropping the price lower than my original amfam price. AmFam renewal $433. Original amfam 383. New AAA price 364. and when I move the truck in Jan it will be 220 - down from the 271 at amfam. I shoulda done this sooner but the bike cost kept me there. Unfortunately Foremost wants almost 200 for the GasGas. No way! I'll probably keep that at amfam and it will be about 100 |
