Let me start with full disclosure. I voted for him and still have faith that he will do MUCH better than than the last administration.
However, what in the heck did Obama do to get awarded the Nobel Peace prize? I heard it this am on my local news.
My wife and I can come up with no reason that makes any rational sense.
the Nobel peace prize is often awarded to encourage the winner to continue on course, rather than for a past accomplishment.
so perhaps the committee approves, and wants to see Obama stay the course (for what...i dont know yet)
from Wik...
"..Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, which recognize completed scientific or literary accomplishment, the Nobel Peace Prize may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving a conflict or creating peace...."

I said exactly the same thing about what has he done. Figured I could chime in before this topic gets locked. Remember, no politics on the boards.
as long as the discussion sticks to the Nobel Peace Prize (which need not be about politics) it should be fine.....maybe.

The peace prize is the oscar award of the bunch. There are always more deserving nominees, but it always goes to who is most popular the time.

Yea, all the teenage girls have a poster of MARTTI AHTISAARI on their walls. [cheeky]
One of the things that really floor me is that nominations for this closed 10 days after he took office. so in 10 days the nominating committee saw so much promiss in him that he got it.
HERM: I will accept your explanation as making sense out of it, Thank you for an alternative answer.

Based on this logic, every United States president since 1910 should have received this award?
???

not really, although there have been 4 US presidents (and 2 former VP's)
originally, i thought the award was simply because of what electing a black man as president implied about race relations, both in the US and the world.
unfortunately, what i found was that it was because he is not GDB.
sorry if that locks the door...
we bombed the moon today....... just wait till ET shows up and plants the trophy up Barrys moons darkside.
peace prize my ass

you killed my daddy....it's on like donkey kong
Oh make the beast with two backs me BP, you really know how to make someone's day! [laugh]
Back to the topic, Relations with France are worse than they were under Dubya, Iran and North Korea are laughing even harder at the "threats" of the world community. Russia well...they treat Obama with as much respect as they did Jimmy Carter...
And we all know what the IOC thinks about him.
Honestly, I don't see exactly how he has improved the USA's standing in the world body nor what exactly are "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples"

We have given the rest of world more of our money for the next 10 generations of Americans. Maybe they appreciate that?

I figured it was secretly given to him because he was a Community Organizer and worked with ACORN extensively.
Those two activities within itself are worthy of the award.
But let's face it.
Yasar Arafat won it.
He is a terrorist.
The award is a make the beast with two backsing joke.
probably on verge of politics, so I will stop.
I was surprised he won it considering the US is actively at war in a couple of places, but as 13 pointed out, it's for his fostering of diplomacy (which he was ALSO doing as a US Senator and as a candidate for president).
I don't put a lot of stock in the peace prize given that Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Kissinger are both former recipients.
I think the press got it wrong...
He was awarded the Nobel PIECE Prize.

I doubt he carries. Dude is anti guns.
BUT if he did, what do you think he would carry. I can see him with a 1911.
Not that he carries a piece, he resembles a piece...
