Title: Coworkers. Post by: Mad Duc on October 12, 2009, 05:02:42 AM I've worked with tons of different people. The vast majority I've become friends with or at least have been able to tolerate. Up to this point I've only had 2-3 people that I really didn't like. Not any more. I work with 3 women now that won't SHUT UP nor do they have VOLUME CONTROL. Oh, and if you're not a parent you're worthless as a person and you get treated like an idiot. I have to push the volume up on my headphones to ear damage levels so I don't have to hear them. Non stop, all day long. I LOVE my job but I can't deal with these three anymore. Grrrrrrrrrrrr............
So how are your coworkers? I can't be the only one suffering through a personal hell 8 or more hours a day. Any good stories of people getting their just dues? Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: ducpainter on October 12, 2009, 05:07:05 AM I don't play well with others.
Usually work alone. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: derby on October 12, 2009, 05:15:08 AM I have to push the volume up on my headphones to ear damage levels so I don't have to hear them. Post by: cyrus buelton on October 12, 2009, 05:20:48 AM I have a small department.
There are three of us, I am the "boss" However, I don't treat Kim and Caroline like that. They are equals. They are co-workers. They are model employees. There are no issues with violating rules, sloppy work, etc. They are perfect. We are more friends than boss/employeee. Everyone in accounting, with the exception of one guy, can all eat a big fat dick. They are a bunch of women hating men, and I am not joking. Title: Re: Coworkers. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: angler on October 12, 2009, 05:25:33 AM I own my own business because I don't play well with others either. Left a "good" job with the feds. I had a high GS rating, but still worked in a cube in a small division. There were 6 of us, including the boss, and I was the only guy. My period even got synced up......I left because it was clear my boss never would and she thought it was OK to first try and use her looks and then her tears to work out professional disagreements. Very unprofessional.......

Post by: cyrus buelton on October 12, 2009, 06:11:17 AM Maybe she needs medication. It's not even that. If you have a dick, you are done. Her department of 15 accountants has 3 men. That's it. She has no manners, she is rude, she sends nasty emails, etc. I am good at what I do. I get instructions from high ups on large payments, one was for 330mil$. It was a bond offering. Lawyers everywhere, timelines, etc. My part of the deal was making the payment Amount SWIFT IBAN Account Name That's it. I do it 30 times a day. It was just more numbers. She sends some internal email to my boss, her boss, and a few others that pretty much said: "Jud, All eyes are on me and you for this transaction. It must be executed perfectly and if it isn't, you will more than likely lose your job over it. I doubt you want that, so do it straight" Are you make the beast with two backsing serious? She is great at business specific software related issues. I handle everything else. I am damn good at what I do and I have saved this company tens of thousands of dollars in wasted IT expenditures which she thought was necessary before I started. Up until a few weeks ago, I considered her a friend. A few weeks ago, they found a growth on her husband's knee. They weren't sure what it was and they had to go to the Mayo clinic for a few days. While she is/was away, I ALWAYS cover for her. I always do a fine job of keeping things from piling up and she has never had any issue with me covering stuff when she is away. On the second night of her being out of the office, I get an email which has her CCed on it about an issue that needs to be taken care of. She immediately responds that she is out of the office but she will take a look at it from her hotel. I respond with: "Cristy, I have this under control. Don't worry about work stuff while you and Jeff are away. You should be focusing on that. If there is an issue I need your help with, I will give you a call. Give my best to Jeff. Regards, Ryan" So 2 days later she is back in her office. She sends me an email requesting that I come to her office. SO I go into her office and she is smiling and asks me to close the door. I close the door, turn around and her face is suddenly changed into this expression bordering on rage...she then says to me almost through clenched teeth, "Don't you EVER make me look like that again. What I do during my personal time is none of your make the beast with two backsing business and if I choose to do work while out of the office, that is none of your concern. Going forward, if I am listed first on an email, I will handle it and you need to keep your goddamned nose out of it." I stand there for a second in disbelief and then without a word, turn around, walk out and go straight to the owner's office to ask to speak with him. I explain the situation to him and her reaction and said that there really was no grounds for her lashing out at me. He agrees and then asks to speak with her privately and then a meeting with the 2 of us together. So things seem to be cleared up. She apologized to me in front of the owner but ever since then, she has had an only slightly veiled anger towards me. Then the other day, she sends me an email stating that she needs me to bring in a doctor's note for my wisdom tooth extraction stating why I needed to take the day of and day after off. I responded and BCCed HR with: "Cristy, HR informed me that because I was using vacation days and this was scheduled 30 days out that I was not required to provide a Drs explanation. Please explain why you need a Drs note from me for this. Ryan" Her response was, "I don't need an explanation as I am your boss. And come to think of it, I think I am going to need a Drs note for each absence you have had since starting here. Please have these to me by the end of the day." My response(BCCing HR AND the owner this time): "Cristy, As you are well aware, we both report to Jay and are equal in both responsibility and pay scale. Our positions are set so that they compliment each other with each having exclusive responsibilities which the other does not regularly handle. As such, if this request comes from Jay or HR, I will happily comply but until then, I feel that there is no obligation to acquiesce to your unreasonable request. Please forward this request through the proper HR or chain of command channels if there is a valid reason. Sincerely, Ryan" She at that point comes into my office and says that I need to take the rest of the day off to think about my priorities here. I get up without saying a word to her and walk into the HR director's office and ask her for a meeting. She reads the emails then asks me to go ahead and go back to work. I do. She calls a meeting with the IT manager. And ever since, Cristy has been bending over backwards to try and be nice to me. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: Nitewaif on October 12, 2009, 08:18:47 AM Most of the people I work with are pretty cool, but there are a few... [bang] [bang]
There's a couple of people that, when they work, it's like a lazy contest. Everyone has to help them out because they can't handle their job. They are constantly complaining that they are doing more than somebody else, even when they have the healthiest patients. The thing is, they usually have the healthiest patients, because they can't handle the workload associated with the really sick ones. Then they complain that nobody ever gives them "hard" patients or lets them be in charge. What? You have to make a phone call to pharmacy, fax an order down, and crush a pill and you are overwhelmed and complaining? How do you expect anybody to let you run a unit or handle a kid with multiple drips and active bleeding? [bang] These are the few people who are always feeling "slighted" and looking for some grievance to file. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: Mad Duc on October 12, 2009, 08:59:24 AM nitewaif's story reminds me of one of the people that was working for me. I do software installs for a large computer system(ERP & Factory Planning). It's really complicated and manual. There is zero room for error. One mistake and it's hours trying to figure out how to fix it and hoping we don't shut down a plant(s). It's like being a janitor, no one cares as long as you do your job. When you don't then everyone notices.
This woman had vision issues but other wise was really smart. But she couldn't get anything right. I personally trained her and I knew she understood everything and knew how to do the job. But no matter what she would screw things up unless I was sitting with her. Then she would do everything perfectly without any help from me. I walk away and everything goes to shit. So she ended up horribly screwing things up and I had to fix it. Afterwards I send the project lead an email saying I will not let this woman do any more installations. A the email get forwarded around and some info on the mistake and fix get sent around. The after all the fix info is in there the Lead then sent the email to all the team including the woman saying please read the entire thing - and my email is in there. [bang] So a few minutes goes by and I hear her crying her eyes out. She then emails me and my WHOLE team & Project management on how I was being an asshole. So I reply back she is an incompetent idiot. Repeat 3-4 times, including the crying. To everyone. I finally said I am done emailing. I went to the Project lead's office and told him to get her off my team. It took at least a month as her old team manager didn't want her back. The thing was she was fully able to do the job but she just didn't care. I didn't understand it. oh well... Title: Re: Coworkers. Shit... I thought being essentially ignored by the rest of my team was bad. 15 women, and me. It's great watching your entire peer group go to the company cafe for lunch and not even look your way as they pass your desk. If I could figure out a way to stop working to make other people rich I'd be out of there in a heartbeat. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: TAftonomos on October 12, 2009, 11:11:55 PM To hell with them. Who the make the beast with two backs wants to go hang out with people you work with? I have a few friends outside of the ATC building that work in it, but I don't wanna talk about air traffic while I'm not at work. When I unplug after my shift is up, I'm done separating airplanes, talking about separating airplanes, etc. We can BS about it at work all day, but when it's over, it's over until the next day.
Do you really want to go to lunch with 15 "clicky" women and listen to them gab about work, people in the office, etc?? Best thing I learned when I started was don't talk about yourself, plans, or anything related to moveing up, laterally, etc. The less people know around you, the less than can sabatoge you....and believe me there are plenty of them that have made a career out of dicking with others because they think they should have gotten the assignment, promotion, etc. It's retarded how immature some of these "grown" people can be, but it is what it is. I do love my job though. Come in, sit down, tell people what to do all day, then go home. I can't remember (since training was completed) the last time what I do felt like work. Title: Re: Coworkers. But when you spend as much time as we do together, you either force yourself to like them, or hate life. They are all pretty much family here, because well, we all spend more time together than with out family's. We spend a good bit of our day looking out for each other too. You get past all the little picky shit when your main concern is making sure everyone goes home the same way as when they came in. I can go a long time without seeing most of my coworkers as we are all field-based and work from home or travel to visit customers. We interact mostly through email and phone. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: Frosty_spl on October 13, 2009, 07:29:22 PM Im a interactive designer in a 60 person ad agency.
The creative director and art directors I report to are pretty cool for the most part. The woman on the other side of my cube is 60, chews loudly, is super nosey, annoying, etc. I can't have a quiet discussion in my cube without her walking over and trying to get in the convo. She bought an Iphone ( i don't know why she thinks she needs it) and had no idea how to use it. She ended up calling 5 different people over to her cube to help her figure it out. There is a scary bull dyke on the other side of her who is around 50, she tries to be friends with the 25 year old gay guy. There is a girl who lives with that guy, and talks like a super gay dude. Hardcore gay lisp and everything. I want to punch the peachfuzz of her face. There WAS my dreamgirl. We talked a lot every day for 2.5 years. I never really tried to ask her out until she was single. She got laid off. Didn't want to even be friends with me outside of work. meh. I thought we had chemistry. There are the super obese girls who eat a shit ton of diet baked goods all the time, and wonder why they are so fat. One of these fat girls said to me "I wish I was as skinny as you." AWKWARD! She happens to be obsessed with Twilight. Title: Re: Coworkers. Post by: r_ciao on October 14, 2009, 09:19:35 AM Are you hiring? Sorry no.I get asked that question alot. Most of my friends have better jobs than me anyway. My neighbors scratch their heads sometimes in wonder b/c when I work from the home office, I usually wear shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. I'm home when my kids return from school and am usually done before most people get home from their commutes. When they pull in to their drive ways, I'm usually out from playing with the kids and the dog. Anyway, back on topic. Sorry for the diversion. Coworkers? Yeh, we get along just fine. Thank you. Ciao! So I returned to the retail world (TV's, Car Audio and Home audio) they could only offer me a Casual position at the time, so I took it, I have been working full time since I left school, so this was a bit of an adjustment! I have been there for about 4 months now, and I have to say I am enjoying the job, I don't have to worry about any of the Drama's and problems, I just go in, do my 5 hours and walk out, Simple! I watch the full time workers stress about budgets, and sales counts, reports and work lists, and on and on it goes...... 1 guy knows his stuff, but has has poor motivation, takes a bit to get him moving, but once he's going he'll stick with it. The other guy is a nice bloke, not great with his product knowledge and has poor retention of information, but tries hard enough. They keep wanting me to step up to a full time contract and be the Dept manager, but I have said I am happy just doing the part time work for the time being, The Area manager who visits once a month has tried to talk me into the Managers job on a couple of occasions now, but the little bit of extra money and conditions they are offering is not worth the extra hassles and stress. But it is working out well for the wife and I, I do the majority of the housework and cooking, we have very little debt (a credit card we owe a few thousand on) and we are putting away good money in a high interest savings account. But I am enjoying the cruisy work life for once! ;D |
