Over the weekend I had a conversation with a couple of friends about cars we've owned. Is there already a thread about members' cars/trucks? If not, I'll start one.
Here's my list. Nothing particularly exotic, but each one holds a favoured place in my heart.
1992 Honda Accord LX (bought used, 1st car... put 140k trouble-free kms on it)
1995 VW Jetta GLX VR6 (used)
1998 Jeep TJ Wrangler Sahara (used)
1998 VW Jetta GLX VR6 (used)
2002 Jeep TJ Wrangler Sahara (bought new, now a modified rockclimber w/6" lift, 35s, etc)
1986 VW Golf GTI 8v (used, converted to SCCA IT-B spec racecar, raced for 6 years, still have it)
1992 VW Golf GTI 8v (used, winter beater)
2003 VW Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T (new)
2004 VW Jetta GLI 1.8T (used, still own it and is my daily driver)
So what unique, mundane, or cool cars/trucks have you all owned?
:)

1987 Dodge Ram 1500
1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0
1990 GMC Sanoma
1988 Dodge Dakota
1987 Jeep Grandwagoneer
1994 Subaru Legacy
all used... the total cost for all of my cars or trucks has been $14,000. My two favorites were the 84 Alfa which was my first car and the 87 Wagoneer which was such a cool truck. 5/7 of the the vehicles were red. The Dakota was blue and the Suby is green. The Subaru is by far my least favorite, but most reliable. A life goal is to buy a new car one day... ;D

then when i got married my dad gave me a 1989 eagle premier from a salvage yard (thanks dad [roll] ) it caught on fire in a parking lot
(http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq261/hades300zx/eagle.jpg)
the first car i bought with my own money was my 1978 mustang II 302cid and about 250 hp that me and my exwife fixed up

then i got me a 1989 chevy suburban for a daily driver that i chopped and used for mudboggin when i got my first Z

Not a single cool car.
Car 1 was a hand-me-down from my parents
Car 2 was picked out by the ex after he ran my Toyota into the ground
Car 3 was the only one I picked, I needed something practical for the dogs

The mythical SA 3.0 gtv6... man I lusted after that car! My second gtv6 had a 3.0 from a Verde so I had the bosch FI.
Have you seen the stuff your countryman Dawie De Villiers does to Alfas? AMAZING...
Exactly that one, Dawie used to work on my cars back in the day, when he had his own shop, I don`t even know if he is still alive and well.
He built some awesomely fast 2.0 Liter turbo`s as well and the last time I heard of him he built the engine for a Ultima GTR with a 3.2 v6 twin turbo alfa [thumbsup]
Will post some pics of the car if I can find some [thumbsup]

I know nothing about them other then I found just about every thing I need to get it looking good and mechanically sound in about 2 hrs on the Internet. its gonna take a lot of work to get it right (every previous owner has welded something to the out side and it has some aluminum cab installed by the post office at one point..)
I inherited it, it was my grandpa's for getting around his ranch. the brakes didn't work very well so he mostly used trees to stop [laugh]
I think it'll be perfect with a modern diesel engine. plenty of power, go anywhere, climb anything. gearing will be fine because the little I4 it came with had about the same operating range. getting a clutch setup working will be the hardest part but I'm not worried..

And don't throw away that cab without looking into what exactly it is first. Some of those're worth a decent amount.

I'll probally be roasted for this but I'd get the Exige first.
Either way is good, just a matter of where your priorities lie.
1976 Ford Mustang II - Baby blue with a dark blue toneau cover top. 2.3L w/ auto. If I hit the accelerator in 1989 I would hit 60 earlier this week.
1980 Mercury Bobcat - Bought in 1992 since the previous car was less than reliable. Same 2.3, but with a 4-speed. Slow, but fun on slick roads. Brown on brown car that I was told, "was a big part of my sex appeal"
1999 Mercury Cougar - Green w/black interior. First real job, first new car. 2.5L V6 with 5-speed. Sort of fun until the connecting rod broke at 50K miles. Never again.
2003 Honda Accord Coupe - 3.0L V6 240HP w/ 6-sp. Great car. Fast, black, stealthy, and fun. I'd buy another one.
2009 Chevrolet Corvette - Black on Black. What can I say, the lure of 436HP, a 6-speed manual, and a willing (re: desperate) dealer meant my midlife crisis got quenched with America's most iconic sportscar. It's a great daily driver too.
'65 VW Beetle (family hand-me-down)
'80 Honda Accord hatch-back (ultimate POS that pops bought for me with my money)
'67 VW Beetle (used)
'72 VW Beetle (used)
'88 Isuzu Trooper (used)
'00 VW GTI VR6 (new, still own)
'85 VW Golf rhd (used)
'05 330 ZHP (new -- car lost its mind)

Probably letting the S2000 and GTI go in the near future and replacing them with a new GTI. Either that or a Jeep. :'(

Hey - you've got some good options there. Wifey and I were in Edina on Saturday and saw a GT500 in a parking lot. She said, and this is a direct quote, "That's a cute car." [roll] Cute? C'mon - it's a GT500 fer heaven's sake. I just sat quietly and nodded. [laugh]
I'm a little wary of pursuing a 2-seat car for my mid-life crisis. I do have a couple of kids, and the whole tribe may want to go for a ride once in awhile. So, my older son is encouraging me to find a gently used Carrera S. For practicality's sake. [laugh]

Yea, I have taken two Mk VI's for a spin; one DSG and one 6-spd. To tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed in the car. Sure it would be much easier to live with one of these as a daily driver, but there isn't much that can compare to the raw driving connection you get with an S2000 until you start breaking the $45-$50K mark.

I can see where the GTI will be pretty underwhelming compared to your S2000. Had the pleasure of driving one on the track a few years ago and it was an exciting experience. However for a year-round daily driver (dealing with snow and ice for 5 months of the year isn't much fun, regardless of the car) the GTI will suit my needs just fine. It's fun, agile, has lots of bells and whistles to keep my occupied, and it'll do well on our local track during track days. Incidentally, I also tested the DSG and the manual. While the DSG worked great and is a good value, I wasn't ready to give up a foot clutch.
;)
I have to bring this one back from the dead cause I love my cars.
1969 442 convertible all stock with matching numbers. Rare engine and all power options.
1992 Dodge Stealth way too many upgrades to list.
It will give my bike a run for it's money.
Close to 600 AWDHP
High 10s in the 1/4 mile and top speed will reach over 200 MPH (upped the RPM limiter)
O yeah. This ones a daily driver too :)

What's a GT289W?
it's a goofy thing he made up, mainly to confuse ppl.
it's a GT w/ a 289 short block in it. W is for whipple. after he put in stage 3 heads/cams he was pushing 650hp, but that was before one of the valve stems broke.

And now he's pushing the car! Hehehe... Ok, j/k.
Did he get it back together?!?
I've owned Mustangs but I have never been a fan of Mustangs. Whackie...I could kiss you for the mockery you made out of your BF's car. It makes me giggle! [evil]
My list of cars I have owned looks like Stew's...one of the (dis)advantages of having a father who is a used car dealer.
Basically, from an 83 Chevette to the 308GTS to the just over 500hp 406ci sb powered 80 Z28 to the S500 I co-owned with my brother for a short time and virtually everything in between...
And every one made some kind of mark on me. Even the Cutlass Calais with the 2.5 that had 298k on the clock when I sold it in 1996 and that is still being driven today by the guy who bought it from me...
The 84 Grand Prix from Arizona that was 100% mechanically perfect with a 100% perfect interior and the cooked paint but not a spec of rust or damage to the body(shoulda kept that one...84 GP with 41k on the clock in 1997)...
The 260Z with the Holley 390 carb and the dual super traps...and the right hand drive...I miss that one too...
The VW bug that I had to use a charcoal briquette in the ashtray as a window defogger and that spun on it's top for what seemed hours the day I flipped it doing donuts in that K-Mart parking lot...
While I do have my favorites and wish I had several of them back...I would not give up the experiences I have had with the cars I have owned for anything.

the worst part of it was that he had to drive the car on base the next day. he tried to hide it, but someone from his car club saw it. it was pretty funny, for me at least.

He has a whipple charger on a built 289? Weird. I've only seen those on smaller motors like 2.0+ 4cyl...

really? he has a 2.3L whipple. his friend has a cobra, w/ dohc, has a 3.4L whipple on it.
it doesn't make sense to get a small engine, then try to push a ton of air into it.

pics. seriously, those are wicked. I wouldn't have bought my audi if they would have imported the rocco and right now only HPA motorsports is going to import them.

I hear they want $100k for their top model. dust anything, and I mean anything in its price range, or even twice as expensive.

Mine is the 200HP version.. the new GTI has a similar engine, the one in my car has been "smoothed" (read detuned) to 197ps.
The only pics I have are:
I really should take some more pics of this car!
It is really everything I wanted in a new car, the design is timeless (for my eyes), the engine is just right, the leather seats are wonderfully supportive (the new Scirocco R still has the same seats so they must be good), the Nav system works very well and the iPod connector is a god send for long journeys. I have had many happy miles with this car and look forward to having many more in the future!
What I don't like so much about the car: the wheels and I can't put a hideaway (or any) towbar legally on the car.
BTW: If you are 6' 2" or over this car really won't be for you from the front seats and impossible from in rear seats
thats a f'n sweet car.

you can fix that ;)
its the same engine as my A3. I reflashed it as quickly as I could. 250hp and 300ft/lbs. the torque is awesome. I'm sure theres a revo dealer near you.
these cars are like legos. you can just grab parts off other cars and with little modification they bolt right in the S3 intercooler will fit it. I did the S3 intercooler about a week after I did the software. much better on the top end. pulled the bumper and swapped it out, cut the ends off the hoses (different connectors) and it was done. best part is they all have factory numbers so dealers don't realize the mods and the software is switchable back to stock so they never know. even the S3 turbo bolts right on and looks close enough most dealers will never notice.
one thing I'm always jealous of is the european seats, you guys get WAY better seats, they make ours all wide and flat for our fat asses to fit comfortably. we very rarely get good seats, R32 and old MK2 GTI/GLI and some of the S4 recaros were the last good seats we got. the rest are lame. S3 seats fetch a very high value here, I see them go for $3-5k.
1957 Chevy 2 door wagon
1983 Mazda 626 2 door coupe
1984 Honda Accord
1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R
1996 Volkswagen Passat VR6
1997 Volvo 850 GLT
2001 Ford Focus ZX3
2005 Mazda6 5 door
Those Sciroccos are awesome. [thumbsup] Wish we could buy them through the regular VW dealer network here in Canada, although the price would no doubt be pretty silly.
Good point on North American seats. Generally speaking, they're terrible. Too soft, too wide, and too slippery. The best seats I've had in a car were the Recaros which came stock in my '04 Jetta GLI. Cloth with excellent lumbar adjustment, high bolsters, and infinite adjustability. My current 2010 GTI has nice, supportive leather seats (with heaters - the Recaros were not heated, something my girlfriend never forgave to car for) but they're still too wide and the bolsters not high enough for my liking.
You should be able to order "Euro" or North American" width seats when buying a new car.
;D

As soon as the warranty is over I'll maybe get the ECU flashed but without 4wd I don't really think this car needs that much more power.
The seats are really good, the stock Scirocco has the same seats but with something resembling Alcantara and cloth and the same shape goes all the way up throught the range so they must be good. I wasn't aware that NA cars have different spec seats.
Wow 3-5$K for S3 seats!!
I have to write in and give full credit to Dodge for my diesel truck. My truck is a 1997 Ram2500 4x4 club cab longbed. I bought it September 12,2001 with 56k miles. The previous owner had put a truck camper in the bed. I used the truck for my contracting business for two years, then bought a van for that and semi-retired the truck, using it to haul trash to the dump, pull my 11,000lb boat, and carry essential personnel to our local hospital during snow events. Except for routine maintenance, a new fuel solenoid, and replacing the exhaust last year when it rotted out and fell off, the truck is stock, and has been as reliable as a good dog. After 13 years, everything still works, including the cruise control.
I just went from Virginia to Naples Florida, then Key west, Miami, back to Naples, then Orlando, and Daytona beach, then back to Norfolk. Total trip was 2638.5 miles, averaging 17.2 mpg with two people, 200lbs luggage, and a 350lb dirtbike.
After nine years together, I still love my truck.
The cummins is a great motor and if you back it with a 5 speed it's even better. Dodge automatics had some issues during that time, no FHE. Heavy duty dodges like that have solid axles like they should, all around pretty stout trucks.
My 1994 gas motor manual is bullet proof mechanically. Paint, on the other hand.......
