Title: Betrayal Post by: loneknight66 on November 07, 2009, 02:13:59 PM My local Ducati Store ( they sell also Suzuki and Triumph) proposed a deal to me...as winter is settling in and chances of sunny weekends slimmer he would take in my S2R1000 and try to sell her on my behalf.....they said that they reckon to to that by Xmas ( I think it is unlikely..) once the bike is sold (hopefully 7500 euro, 11,000 bucks) they would sell me their almost brand new Speed TRIPLE Test Bike..the difference to pay is around 2000 euros (3000 USD)....
Even if I like my bike this opportunity is very tempting... What do you think? Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: teddy037.2 on November 07, 2009, 02:36:44 PM I'm confused...
so they're only taking your S2R as trade-in if it sells? what's to stop another salesperson from selling that particular S3 in the meantime? Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: ArguZ on November 07, 2009, 04:15:20 PM What would make you from going classic beauty to hooligan style ?
And for 2000 on top ? For a bike, people probably kicked the shit out of before it was even broken in ? "Don't be gentle, its a rental" I would be...not intrigued Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: mitt on November 07, 2009, 05:09:00 PM I would never buy a rental for more $ than my beloved babied 1 owner bike. Shame on you >:( ;D
mitt Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: loneknight66 on November 07, 2009, 09:41:31 PM Thanks Guys this is the kind of answers I want to hear ;D
However it is just a test bike (I don't know what you call it in the Usa) that is given to prospective customers only for 10 minutes at the time....in theory of course, as the "Triumph Blokes" might have used it during weekends... Teddy they told me that the minute I bring my bike to them thy will lock the Speed3 up in the warehouse Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: teddy037.2 on November 07, 2009, 09:50:30 PM Teddy they told me that the minute I bring my bike to them thy will lock the Speed3 up in the warehouse idk... maybe it's just me, but that just seems a lil'weird. if the dealer is taking your bike in on trade, they'd assess a value for it, and use that toward the purchase of the other vehicle. granted, i've never done this for a bike, only cars; and you're on the other side of the world from me, to boot. so... YMMV. have you ridden the S3? which bike speaks to you more? Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: loneknight66 on November 07, 2009, 10:04:59 PM idk... maybe it's just me, but that just seems a lil'weird. if the dealer is taking your bike in on trade, they'd assess a value for it, and use that toward the purchase of the other vehicle. granted, i've never done this for a bike, only cars; and you're on the other side of the world from me, to boot. so... I have ridden the S3 only for a short time and never on open roads but while my Ducati "speaks" me more ( I didn't know that this expression could have been used as it seems to be translated straight from Italian :) ) S3 engine seems to be much more smooth without anyway losing character as the jap bikes and it makes the bike more comfortable ( think that my mileage is more than 10,000 per year). My heart says Ducati anyway. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: teddy037.2 on November 07, 2009, 10:08:19 PM My heart says Ducati anyway. then there you go [beer] listen to it. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: DRKWNG on November 08, 2009, 06:21:38 AM then there you go [beer] listen to it. Best advice anyone could give. I bought a Triumph (Daytona) about a year and a half ago, and while it was a phenomenal bike it just didn't "move" me quite the way the Ducati did. Since then I have sold my old Monster and replaced it with an SC, but the Daytona is gone as well. Just pick the bike that you can find yourself standing in the garage staring at for an hour or so after the ride. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: motolocopat on November 14, 2009, 05:40:28 PM You don't mention what sort of miles or accessories you have on your duc. Do you change bikes like you change....winter jackets?
At this point I am able to buy a bike I LUST over and then keep it. In a 2-3 years get another one while keeping the previous one. To me the S2R monsters are Keepers. Like I just wrote in another thread.... in 10 years the triumph will be just another strange buggy looking bike and people will still be walking up to the S2R staring at it like the work of art it is! Put the $3000 in the bank and save up for your next "KEEPER" Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: Triple J on November 14, 2009, 06:47:09 PM Personally I'd keep the Monster and put the money on engine upgrades...say cams, PCIII, and a custom map (if the shop can do that).
If you were talking an S2R800 trade then sure...but the 1000 is a nice ride. [thumbsup] I like Speed Triples...but I don't think they're any better than an S2R1000. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: loneknight66 on November 14, 2009, 08:13:13 PM I like Speed Triples...but I don't think they're any better than an S2R1000. Yesterday morning I tested the Speed3 for a couple of hours among the nearby hills....and then I went back astride my monster...well, it is like compare apple&pears....they are altogether two different things. While I appreciated the "smoothness" of the engine I wasn't impressed by the handling but I suppose it is because you have to get adjusted to the higher position . While off with the Demo-bike the Salesman took a few pictures of my bike and posted them on the web....of course the bike is mine and without my consent he will not be able to sell anything! ;D ;D ;D ;D http://www.moto.it/moto-usate/ducati/monster-s2r-1000/monster-s2r-1000/index.html?msg=2259618 (http://www.moto.it/moto-usate/ducati/monster-s2r-1000/monster-s2r-1000/index.html?msg=2259618) Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: teddy037.2 on November 14, 2009, 08:47:11 PM hmmm, idk man, you got a real pretty bike as it is
Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: stopintime on November 15, 2009, 01:05:50 AM You're Italian, so you should know better [evil]
It's ok to look at others than your true love, but be careful and don't let her see it 8) Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: psycledelic on November 15, 2009, 03:43:56 AM Honestly, this deal seems kind of messed up and is being based on a lot of "might, might not" happen. If I understand correctly, you are going to put your bike on their floor. They are going to put the Triple in the warehouse. Their goal is to sell your bike for what they can and then give you the Triple for about $3000?
1) I don't see them just sitting on that Triple all winter if someone else is interested. At the very least, they are still gonna demo it if anyone wants to ride. That still seems like it will be awful tempting for salesman to use as a goto bike for an immediate sale. 2) This winter, your Monster is gonna be their demo bike! If they turn people loose for 10 minute test rides or more (did you say they turned you loose on the Triple for a couple of hours?). What are they gonna do when someone wants to test your Monster before they buy? Add that to the fact that Monsters are a little less powerful then some other bikes out there. That just seems to be begging someone trading in a Sportbike for something a little more comfortable to just flog the hell out of it to see if it will satisfy them. 3) Your bike gets damaged on the floor 4) Not to mention all of the "If it can happen, it will happen!" factors: To many reasons to list for them to have to "Get you a new Triple" for a couple thousand more. To many "what if's" for me. (granted I may not have all of the facts) I will stay out of the "Where is your Ducati spirit" side of this conversation. I look at it like this: Get the bike that makes you happy! But, I would try to work the deal to get the bike now. The senerio I took from your description is giving the Ducati shop a lot of options while you just sit, wait, and hope. With all of that said, let me tell you a story of a young boy and his choice between two girls for prom. In one corner is the schools track star. Lean, fast, and kind of fugly. In the other corner is the cheerleading captain. Beautiful, elegant, refined, but just doesn't seem to put out as much. What he needs to remember is that although the track star is good for a wild romp in the country that weekend. He has to walk her down the school hallway Monday morning. He chooses the Prom queen. Why, you ask? First, cause he likes seeing the look of envy on all the other boys faces everytime he takes her out. AND(!!!!!) He can get just as good a ride out of her, he just has to push a little harder! The boy also discovers a bonus. The prom queen really screams when he gets on her. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: loneknight66 on November 15, 2009, 05:13:38 AM P,
you might be damned right...but so far they have just taken shots of my bike that I still keep in my garage... ;D ;D I can explain their interest in making me buy a Triumph bike: the Dealer at the moment sells 3 different brands..namely Suzuki, Triumph and Ducati but it seems that in the near future ( just a matter o weeks) they will be no longer Ducati dealer...and in this way they would keep at least one customer more... When some time ago I was willing to buy a Street Triple ( they were not Triumph dealer yet) they said that she was assembled in India and components were poor in comparison to the Monster 696...so I bought my S2R1000 ( The new 1100 was not out yet) and sold my old Monster 600......now they seem to have a different view..... However I feel in a way betrayed by Ducati as well with all their latest Jap-like models....as of this year the new monster will be available also with ABS! Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: teddy037.2 on November 15, 2009, 03:01:06 PM so is dealer support one of your main concerns for this weirdo trade in?

That makes sense for them to want you on a Triumph. If they haven't come out and said it, maybe you should. Might get them to give you a little better deal if you decide to trade. Salesmen will be salesmen. When it's all said and done, everything is made in China anyway. Title: Re: Betrayal Post by: WetDuc on November 16, 2009, 03:11:56 AM After seeing pictures of your bike I would have to resound...KEEP IT! Screw the S3, S2R1k annihilates it.

What the heck does that have to do with anything? You don't have to buy the ABS version, you know. Let the rest of us who would like to have ABS have the option. BC. |
