Betrayal
«
on:

My local Ducati Store ( they sell also Suzuki and Triumph) proposed a deal to me...as winter is settling in and chances of sunny weekends slimmer he would take in my S2R1000 and try to sell her on my behalf.....they said that they reckon to to that by Xmas ( I think it is unlikely..) once the bike is sold (hopefully 7500 euro, 11,000 bucks) they would sell me their almost brand new Speed TRIPLE Test Bike..the difference to pay is around 2000 euros (3000 USD)....
Even if I like my bike this opportunity is very tempting...
What do you think?

I'm confused...
so they're only taking your S2R as trade-in if it sells?
what's to stop another salesperson from selling that particular S3 in the meantime?

What would make you from going classic beauty to hooligan style ?
And for 2000 on top ?
For a bike, people probably kicked the shit out of before it was even broken in ?
"Don't be gentle, its a rental"
I would be...not intrigued

Thanks Guys this is the kind of answers I want to hear
However it is just a test bike (I don't know what you call it in the Usa) that is given to prospective customers only for 10 minutes at the time....in theory of course, as the "Triumph Blokes" might have used it during weekends...

idk... maybe it's just me, but that just seems a lil'weird. if the dealer is taking your bike in on trade, they'd assess a value for it, and use that toward the purchase of the other vehicle.
granted, i've never done this for a bike, only cars; and you're on the other side of the world from me, to boot. so... YMMV.
have you ridden the S3? which bike speaks to you more?

I have ridden the S3 only for a short time and never on open roads but while my Ducati "speaks" me more ( I didn't know that this expression could have been used as it seems to be translated straight from Italian
) S3 engine seems to be much more smooth without anyway losing character as the jap bikes and it makes the bike more comfortable ( think that my mileage is more than 10,000 per year).
My heart says Ducati anyway.

Best advice anyone could give. I bought a Triumph (Daytona) about a year and a half ago, and while it was a phenomenal bike it just didn't "move" me quite the way the Ducati did. Since then I have sold my old Monster and replaced it with an SC, but the Daytona is gone as well.
Just pick the bike that you can find yourself standing in the garage staring at for an hour or so after the ride.

You don't mention what sort of miles or accessories you have on your duc. Do you change bikes like you change....winter jackets?
At this point I am able to buy a bike I LUST over and then keep it. In a 2-3 years get another one while keeping the previous one. To me the S2R monsters are Keepers.
Like I just wrote in another thread.... in 10 years the triumph will be just another strange buggy looking bike and people will still be walking up to the S2R staring at it like the work of art it is!
Put the $3000 in the bank and save up for your next "KEEPER"

Personally I'd keep the Monster and put the money on engine upgrades...say cams, PCIII, and a custom map (if the shop can do that).
If you were talking an S2R800 trade then sure...but the 1000 is a nice ride.
I like Speed Triples...but I don't think they're any better than an S2R1000.

Yesterday morning I tested the Speed3 for a couple of hours among the nearby hills....and then I went back astride my monster...well, it is like compare apple&pears....they are altogether two different things.
While I appreciated the "smoothness" of the engine I wasn't impressed by the handling but I suppose it is because you have to get adjusted to the higher position .
While off with the Demo-bike the Salesman took a few pictures of my bike and posted them on the web....of course the bike is mine and without my consent he will not be able to sell anything!
