S'pose it had just been too long between mods and you were looking for something (and there was not really that much left to do). Now we have a photo of the redundant part, what about the rest? Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 27, 2008, 03:21:57 PM What happened to the idea of always being able to bring the bike back to stock? Now we have a photo of the redundant part, what about the rest? well, we're half way there. the chop is done, now just re-installing the blonkers and a number plate ..........and presto. but it looks hot so far [thumbsup]THE MAN @ work (and no, it's not me) (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3239/2528774801_68e3d33800_b.jpg) Title: Re: Spare part Post by: sydmonster on May 27, 2008, 03:40:25 PM ah yes.. spare parts indeed. ;D - Chris
Title: Re: Spare part Post by: dragonworld. on May 27, 2008, 04:29:04 PM Heh, 'tis a brave man that attacks HIS own bike with cutting tools!! ;D
Even though you might be capable of doing the cut yourself, getting someone else to do it and it doesnt quite hurt so much. [thumbsup] And of course you can be supervising [drink] [cheeky] Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 27, 2008, 04:44:26 PM And of course you can be supervising [drink] [cheeky] Title: Re: Spare part Post by: mattyvas on May 27, 2008, 09:43:40 PM Doing it yourself is part of the fun in my view.
When I did mine it was an early Saturday morning like 5am. And it was done and out riding by lunchtime. I loved doing it, it was just the first time the saw hit the frame that was the hardest thing. And re-sale well, it will sell when I'm ready but that is far in the distance right now. Title: Re: Spare part Post by: monstermick58 on May 27, 2008, 09:58:46 PM YESSSSSSS!!!!!
Mmick Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 27, 2008, 10:11:25 PM Doing it yourself is part of the fun in my view. ease for you to say; have you seen melvin @ work? sad sight, believe me Title: Re: Spare part Post by: Super T.I.B on May 27, 2008, 10:50:05 PM Well, I'm going to attack mine within the next couple of months. [evil]
A little project for the Dockstrada maintenance day. [thumbsup] The Ventura rack is going 'cause i can't stand the look of it. [puke] Back to backpack's for me. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Spare part Post by: Spider on May 28, 2008, 12:11:27 AM yeah, taking the hacksaw to the end was tough, I think I measured the 85mm about 4 times before the cut.
The mechanic thought I was insane when I rocked up with the number plate taped on....I couldn't drill the carbon for the plate or the indicators! Waiting on those pictures Melvin! those will be great. Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 28, 2008, 12:27:56 AM Waiting on those pictures Melvin! those will be great. however, sydmonster, who is the master of ceremony and THE MAN performing the operation, had a presence of mind to have a camera ready and kept on taking pictures as he progressed. no dubt he will post them somewhere as well as i'll get a copy and put them on my flickr you all well see the end result as than i will take a few pics myself as well Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 28, 2008, 12:39:41 AM THAT reminds me [bang]
if we all say "pretty please" to sydmonster he might finish the bike by tomorrow early evening so i can ride it to our first social meeting so, sydmonster, what say you? is it doable, mate? ;D Title: Re: Spare part Post by: mattyvas on May 28, 2008, 12:50:07 AM I'm sure it's do-able Melvin.

Title: Re: Spare part Post by: sydmonster on May 28, 2008, 08:03:06 PM THAT reminds me [bang] if we all say "pretty please" to sydmonster he might finish the bike by tomorrow early evening so i can ride it to our first social meeting so, sydmonster, what say you? is it doable, mate? ;D Hey melvin & OZmon's.... I have to appologize. Im doing the chop afterhours (or afterwork/hell/prison etc) and whilst the actual chop is done. I haven't had a chance to go and get materials to make the new bracket to hold the light and number plate etc... So unfortunately the bike won't be ready for tonights social... my bad. :P But I have taken pics and will have somethin ready for Melvin to pick up very soon. - Chris ps, Melvins bike has sooo many little details. Every time I go to do something I catch something new. Like I didn't see that he had special stickers made up for his screen... top ride, it really is HOT [thumbsup]! Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on May 28, 2008, 09:28:23 PM perfection; and only perfection is acceptable when dealing with monsters; requires time. we all shall wait patiently for the results
thanks again, chris Title: Re: Spare part Post by: sydmonster on May 29, 2008, 05:32:14 PM ...and with time comes progress ;). You will all hate me, but I have no pics at this moment to show :P.
I made several trial brackets. There is lots to consider specially with the tail light; the bottom of the Sargent seat has a special mould to house the taillight. How this space is used is really determined by the brackest; they let the taillight sit in there as best as possible. Then I had to design a setup so the special LED blinkers Melvins got could be mounted securelty but also really neatly so that it didn't take away from the tail chop. Also Melvins blinkers are a little fragile, so I had to come up with a way so they would stick out & avoid being knocked off. In the end the same brackets that hold the tail light also hold the blikers, this makes for a really neat integrated look. so... currently we have... [evil] a) Brackets have been made & installed b) Tailight mounted as snug as the Sargent seat would allow me. c) Blinkers are mounted, into the same integrated bracket as the tailight, again as snug as room will allow. Rego plate, light & resistors to come next. Plus pics to come! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Spare part Post by: Super T.I.B on May 29, 2008, 08:32:43 PM Super you wana flog the ventura im looking for one ??? I'm still umming and aahhhing, I pack too much shit in my bag for work and I guess I will have to get out of that habit if I am going to use a backpack again. When I first got my rack, it was great, because my pack was just too damn heavy and dragging my shoulders down, but then i got the Ventura, I felt heaps more comfy on the bike. [thumbsup] Which brings me to this.....something BIG happening next week. [moto] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Title: Re: Spare part Post by: mattyvas on May 29, 2008, 08:56:58 PM Maybe a solution and of course there are different options and prices.

I just hate covering the bike up with baggage, just want it to look uncluttered. ;) Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on June 02, 2008, 05:41:33 AM ...and with time comes progress ;). [thumbsup] well, the bike is finished, picked it up today as with everything, the beauty is in the eye of e beholder but i'm more than ecstatic about the end result chris has done FANTASTIC job; precision is second to none, workmanship is outstanding. now the bike has got a custom made bracket, new wiring for the blinkers incl moving the resistor. everything is absolutely perfect so, chris, i am more than grateful for what you've done for me, the beer is definitely on its way thanks again, mate [thumbsup] couple of pictures below, more hastily taken photos here >>>> Tail Chop (http://www.flickr.com/photos/melvinsmonster/sets/72157605394395567/) (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2152/2544309383_90f661b561_b.jpg) (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/2545133820_d410064aa8_b.jpg) Title: Re: Spare part Post by: mattyvas on June 02, 2008, 03:27:27 PM Looovley........ Title: Re: Spare part Post by: sydmonster on June 03, 2008, 12:25:47 AM To add to Melvin's posts here is a pictorial...
http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk92/syd-monster_photo/ Some notes to consider a) the back of the monster isn't square so double/triple check you measurements before cutting. b) I used a hi-quality cutting blade on my angle grinder c) Trial fits & templates end up with good results... ** I tried using the IMG codes to link the photos but I cant for some reason the DMF doesn't seem to repond well to the sizing or the amount... my internetin sucks abit too much. - Chris Title: Re: Spare part Post by: melvin on June 03, 2008, 01:16:03 AM finished the whole thing by installing the plug. $1.55/packet of 4 @ bunnings
