Title: LED License plate light choices Post by: djrashonal on November 17, 2009, 07:35:55 PM So I just chopped my tail and I'm looking at swapping out the stock license plate light with an LED. I have a few Different options:

Any FHE? any other recommendations? Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: RUFKM on November 17, 2009, 07:51:18 PM I have the black radiantz frame and I like it. My stock duc one didn't hold the bulb well enough to keep it lit so I switched to the LED.

your tag. Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: djrashonal on November 17, 2009, 08:03:15 PM If you want to stick with a red lens, get one for a Buell. Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: djrashonal on November 17, 2009, 08:22:03 PM No, the motodynamic light doesn't have a clear bottom, it also uses red/yellow LEDs, so I dont think it could be used as a License plate light

I coupled it into the spade connectors for the taillight. I searched ebay, found the ones you were talkin about bought'em for 3.25....now im just waiting for delivery. did you splice yours into your wire for the tailight or the license plate light? did you get the 3 led pod or the 4? I picked up : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-LED-Cluster-POD-Motorcycle-Accent-Lighting_W0QQitemZ400074614195QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5d264e25b3 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-LED-Cluster-POD-Motorcycle-Accent-Lighting_W0QQitemZ400074614195QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5d264e25b3) was also looking at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-LEDs-In-Line-POD-For-Accent-Lighting_W0QQitemZ400074618320QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5d264e35d0 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-LEDs-In-Line-POD-For-Accent-Lighting_W0QQitemZ400074618320QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5d264e35d0) Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: He Man on November 18, 2009, 09:59:47 AM i had both. i orignally bought a green one, but he sent an aqua one and maintained that it was green. but i kept it. it was secured right so it fell off the mount and my tire bounced it to death. and i threw it away. Then i bought the 4 pod white led (white is req by law here) and its been fine, especially since it was only $3.25 ( the bar one was more expensive for some reason).
I hooked it up to the license plate lamp wire. i cut the original ends off and soldered the pod directly onto them and then threw a heat shrink over it. Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: djrashonal on November 18, 2009, 10:05:10 AM that sounds perfect, i was debating whether or not to tuck the original light box under the seat, or chop it off, i think im just going to chop it off and solder the pod on. Any issues with water "resistance"? thanks again for the recommendation, you saved me like 20 bux, next time im in ur neck of the woods i'll get you a cold one [beer]

not yet. but i expect at some point there will be. especially cause i have a tail chop. water just pours into that area. Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: Heath on November 18, 2009, 11:36:45 PM The one from monster parts in the first post is great. The LED's spread wide and you can angle the bracket that is included to get the light just right on your plate.
I had a slight mishap that broke mine. My whole taillight plus plate came off and bounced on my tire. I needed a new light so I went and got some bolt lights at wal mart. I should of never done that, they suck. When I get a chance I'm going to order another light from monster parts. Title: Re: LED License plate light choices Post by: filter on November 23, 2009, 06:20:33 PM I have the Radiantz one installed on my bike. It works pretty damn well.
The first one I bought didn't work right, but Radiantz sent me a new one without any hassle (although it did take awhile). IMO, it looks great. |
