Title: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on November 21, 2009, 06:29:00 PM I'm having a whale of a time fabricating a bracket for the KTM headlight I just picked up. Anyone who's done this mod have any kind of schematic/plan?
Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: pennyrobber on November 21, 2009, 07:57:41 PM I haven't heard of anyone fitting up this headlight but I am interested to see how it turns out. As far as fabbing up the bracket, every bracket I have made has started as a cardboard template and has taken a couple of iterations to get right.
Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: teddy037.2 on November 22, 2009, 09:42:42 AM how's the headlight bolt up on the duke?
side mount? bottom mount? +1 on the templating... one offs are just T&E but templates are a good start Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: 1KDS on November 22, 2009, 03:37:42 PM TAftonomos should chime in soon with help
Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on November 22, 2009, 05:17:41 PM I've gotten it most of the way there with steel joist straps. It's certainly kind of a makeshift attachment. It looks as though it bolts flush onto the KTM frame; not an option with the Duc. Thanks for all the help!

Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on November 23, 2009, 02:37:06 PM Finally got the KTM headlight installed. Took substantially longer than I'd anticipated, but I'm pretty happy with the result. Of course, any time I set out to do something mechanical I should probably just triple the time estimate. [drink]

I think he had a KTM light on his masterpiece [bow_down] Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: angler on November 24, 2009, 03:25:42 PM Been watching this thread. It is why I'm doing a group buy for headlight <edit> electrical <edit> connectors. There are a couple of pics on this board of other folks with the mod. I can't find the thread at the moment. One mounts it very similar to yours (2 mounting points) one mounts it using only the original mounting point. I'm going that route and will post pics whenever I find time to fab the brackets out of some AL.
My search-fu is weak today - here is that post on others that have done this mod - http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=5383.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=5383.0) Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on November 24, 2009, 03:58:24 PM Angler, where is the group buy thread for this? I didn't even think there'd be any kind of kit for mounting a KTM 990 light to a Monster. [popcorn]

I didn't even think there'd be any kind of kit for mounting a KTM 990 light to a Monster. [popcorn] There is no KTM mounting kit. I hope my post wasn't misleading. I don't want to cut apart my stock headlight wiring so I can easily reverse the mod. To do that, I am buying the female connectors (headlight) side, shortening the pigtail on the KTM light and installing the factory connector. My stock wiring stays the same and, if I don't like the light, I can swap the old one back easily. Here is the thread on electrical connectors http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28574.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28574.0). Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Mojo S2R on December 01, 2009, 05:24:39 AM brownwhale and c-rex both have this light. Here's the thread with pix: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=5383.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=5383.0)
I like this light but hadn't seen it mounted until recently and opted for the MT-01 headlight instead. I will hopefully have it mounted by the end of the week. Pix to be posted hopefully soon thereafter. :-\ Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on December 07, 2009, 09:02:11 AM This is ultimately what I ended up with:

Did you do that yourself or have a metal shop do it? Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on December 07, 2009, 09:36:24 AM Loren at Ducshop in Marietta did it, in conjunction with installing the clip ons and the newly resprung S2R1000 forks.
On a separate note, I can't imagine doing anything else to the 695. My mods include: new ECU/Termi's, 14T sprocket, open airbox, superbike spring in the rear, ktm 990 headlight, vortex clip ons, S2R 1000 forks with Ohlin non-progressive springs... Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Wonked on December 07, 2009, 09:37:38 AM Okay, I did at least PAINT the bracket myself.
Title: Re: Fabricating bracket for Superduke headlight Post by: Bill in OKC on December 07, 2009, 11:13:40 AM That is really REALLY nice! [thumbsup]
