Title: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: IZ on December 12, 2009, 09:06:00 PM No, not that kind of ride.
That was after the Duati store.. [evil] Anyway, we went to test ride a new Monster but I ended up taking a Streetfighter out for spin. Wow..what a jump from the current Duc!! After a quick stall at the light, (and not getting it started back up due to the advancement in the start button since '03)..I cracked the throttle. I think I was nearing 90mph in a 40 zone in about 2 sec!! :o Fun bike but I don't want to double my maint. fees with 2 extra valves. Some good deals on Monsters before the end of the year, including, a 4 year warranty. Typical price is $11,999. The dealer is telling me they'll make a deal. I'd like to know how low I can get this thing for. Anyone get a good deal on the 1100? Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: derby on December 13, 2009, 05:58:27 AM Fun bike but I don't want to double my maint. fees with 2 extra valves. it shouldn't be double. aside from "other stuff in the way," the labor to get to the valves (pulling the valve covers) is basically the same for the 2v and 4v motors. you also may not have to adjust the valves. (iirc) out of four valve "services" on my s4r, only the first one required an adjustment (and that was because i had the cams degreed). Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: IZ on December 13, 2009, 06:18:35 AM HeMan..the current bike is an '03 620 nearing 72K miles.
Thanks for the info Derby. My mechanic has been steering me away from the V4. Especially now that I am back here in AZ..the miles are adding up very quick!. Maybe for him, the service price goes up? The rate I'm going, he thinks I'll be back to see him every other month. Good for him..bad for me and my wallet. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Michael on December 13, 2009, 08:14:37 AM But it, IZ, buy it!!!
So what if the V4 needs a little more maintenance, just think about how much you loved riding it. (http://gensplans.com/images/gensplan%20buy%20me%20now.jpg) Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: red baron on December 13, 2009, 09:04:34 AM streetfighter comes with a V4?

[cheeky] I don't worry much about typo's as I've only had a blackberry to browse/post. BP..nope..no pic to post. Of course, when I go back to pick it up! BTW..thinking I should take off the SIL Megaphones and put the factory pipes back on when I trade in my bike. Any thoughts on this? Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: hbliam on December 13, 2009, 09:20:52 AM (and not getting it started back up due to the advancement in the start button since '03 what's different? You pusha the button it go vroom.... Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: IZ on December 13, 2009, 10:22:49 AM what's different? You pusha the button it go vroom.... The switch on the SF is different from the '03 Monster. I wasn't planning on taking a test ride so they gave me gloves and a helmet. When it stalled, I couldn't feel the on/off switch/button with those thick gloves. Plus, watching in the rear for oncoming traffic to nail me on a $15K bike that wasn't mine..just wee bit of a stress. ;) It was probably about 3 seconds in real time but felt a lot longer. Oh well..got it started and had a fun ride! Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: herm on December 13, 2009, 04:01:35 PM WAIT!
how did i miss the "latest" change in your plans? you are no longer going to Asia for work? was it in the WTF thread? Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: BastrdHK on December 13, 2009, 05:25:01 PM Get the full 5yr Ever Red extended warranty thrown in. That is a heck of a deal. Ducati won't throw huge discounts out there, b/c there is not a lot of margin, especially on the monsters. Why wait for $500 off in six months when you can be enjoying the new scoot today [moto]
Let us know how it goes! Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: IZ on December 13, 2009, 07:53:20 PM Herm, I didn't take the job in South Korea. We were both offered great positions here though so we'll be sticking around for a little while longer.
Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: DRKWNG on December 14, 2009, 07:06:56 AM I would do it IZ. I just got a screaming deal on a new KTM SD and can tell that this thing is going to be stupid fun, even with not being able to crack it over 6500 rpm yet. I could only imagine what the SF would be like. :o
Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: rule62 on December 14, 2009, 07:28:54 AM Go for the SF. The new monsters are too ugly.

Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Randimus Maximus on December 14, 2009, 10:12:39 AM Aren't the maintenance intervals longer on the new bikes?
Maybe your boy doesn't want/know how to work on the new ones? Of course, you could still get that Ridgeline you've been dreaming about for years instead. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: rule62 on December 14, 2009, 10:43:46 AM IZ,
With as many "shade-tree" mechanics that are at your disposal here in Phoenix, maintenence costs shouldn't even be a factor. Valves are easy, whether you're looking at 2 or 4 per head. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Popeye the Sailor on December 14, 2009, 10:49:13 AM Aren't the maintenance intervals longer on the new bikes? Maybe your boy doesn't want/know how to work on the new ones? P's bike with the new longer intervals is still unhappy if you go much past 6k. They can advertise it all they want, I don't believe it. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Randimus Maximus on December 14, 2009, 11:44:03 AM Actually, who does anyone think we are kidding here.
We've been down this road with the IZ before. We'll debate pros and cons for days, weeks, maybe even months. In the end, he'll stick with the 620. Mark my words. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: rule62 on December 14, 2009, 11:56:17 AM ^ +1

Well he can't get a new bike, he might be moving to Turmenkistan. Or they might be having a kid. Or he might be moving. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Randimus Maximus on December 14, 2009, 12:02:36 PM OTOH, we may get a IZ_ pic of a "Go Daddy" girl who happened to be at the dealership one day while he was there waffling over the (non)decision.
Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: IZ on December 14, 2009, 06:19:01 PM [cheeky]
Well, my mechanic did A LOT of work on the 620 in the past couple days. It may last me a few K more. Wanting that 1100 though!! Turkmenistan, eh?! [laugh] Actually, I was just looking at books on Belgium and Croatia about an hour ago. Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Stella on December 14, 2009, 08:20:21 PM We were both offered great positions here though so we'll be sticking around for a little while longer. Define "a little while longer." And while you're at it, define "sticking around" too. ;) Title: Re: The wife took me for a ride today Post by: Michael on December 14, 2009, 09:41:32 PM So, if you have your bike back AND you're sticking around, THEN does that mean you're going to come out to local meet-ups more?
