Cause i just bought 8 sheets of 2"x24"x48" Mineral wool sheets, weighing 66lbs that McMaster-carr billed me $17 to ship actual. :P something like that would of cost a regular person atleast $60.00
17/60=.283% so
1-.283=.717
So a 71.7% discount to high volume businesses.
And you call yourself an engineer ;D
LOL [laugh] I didnt see any equations so i couldnt plug anything in :P

Just make shit up and pass it off as fact-don't they teach you these things in school?
No, i go to a Public School. Education is heavily discounted. We only learn about the stuffs that on sale at the moment.
a SHIT TON.
According to UPS, an overnight envelope from my Zip Code to 90210 is $30.10.
My cost is $21.37.
We also get thousands of dollars in rebates each quarter (>40k)

Do they discount as much as UPS does?
private school $25,000/yr
public education $5,000/yr
if you plug it into Mr.I's equation of discounted state, its 80%.
80%> 71.7% there fore yes.
I will not get into specifics but I know how it works.
You've assumed that McMaster-Carr billed you for the entire cost of the shipping.
I had a lot of experience with UPS rates when I was in sales for DHL. Their pricing was very sporadic for businesses. Many small businesses had great pricing because of business affiliations, or they had threatened to switch to us or FedEx.
I'm not sure of specific breakdowns, but I know we were encouraged to go after heavy overnight shippers- printing companies, title and mortgage companies, and attorneys. We could care less about heavy or oversized ground shipments.
If you pay $5 for an overnight letter, you're doing alright. They don't have specific volume pricing tables per se- most of the good rates have been negotiated.
^^^^^
That is about right.
Our volume is pretty large and it is based on what exactly you are shipping, weight, frequency, etc.
Let's just say that a UPS semi comes daily to our local mfg facility (we have several) to pick up product.
We would go in, ask to see a FedEx/UPS invoice to verify "volumes and destinations", then knock a few bucks off longer zone shipments, and maybe a letter, for examples to the customer. Then write them down and match them up to some generic pricing tables back at the office....boom, there's your "volume discount".
Shocking how we always ended up being slightly less than the competition. I never had a customer call me on it.
Hrm.
Last thing I shipped overnight cost $250,000.
Ow.

Maybe they ship like CA-Cycleworks
Your card doesnt get billed til actual shipping cost.
I like that method actually. That shows to me they aren't skimming you.

CA-cycleworks does live quotes for me when i order from them. They are super fast too. But McMaster did a real time quote for me, 66lbs, 2 packages for $17.75, i get a $31 bill charge for shipping. :( im not too pissed, becuase thats the price i expected.
