Subaru Impreza STI pulls out of snow the truck - WAW.LV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1mS0rCQWco#normal)
Something about that just doesn't seem right.....
i don't think that truck was as stuck as it thought it was. the truck got it self out the car helped.
Yeah, jsut a little help along. It's about the same as me 'pushing out' a Ford 250 a couple years back. It just needed a tiny bit to get over the hump..
I'm not gonna lie, the video's title made me lol.

Can you add some lulz too, brah?
why is it so hard to believe that an awd 300+ hp car pulled a truck out?
i also havne't seen the video yet.

Because HP is not torque, the gearing is not set up to tow things, and trucks are incredibly heavy by comparison. In inclement conditions, as shown, I would expect the car to just spin all four while the truck does nothin'.

with the right tires i think the car could do it.
i don't know if the turbo would spool properly though. lol
spec. is 300 ft-lb at ~3000 rpm. no low range though. with stock tires, the

The car was spinning all four-it wasn't pulling anything-it moved forawrd as the truck drove itself out.
Screams viral marketing to me.

Wondered the same as Mr.I -- I can't quite hear the language spoken in the clip, but it sounds maybe Flemish or could be one of the Balkan (edit: I meant Baltic, but I suppose it could be Balkan as well...) languages. The lettering on the truck (which doesn't appear on the screen enough to be a really effective ad for them...) is latin script but not English, so probably somewhere in Europe.
Hmmm, OK... the original YouTube poster wrote in Russian. Mine is really rusty, but it says something like "(Do you) Think the Subaru Impreza STI isn't prepared for Russian winter (and) roads? Maybe or maybe not (?) but It pulls the truck like a tractor."
Or if someone's more current in their Russian than me:
Ð"умаеÑ,е Subaru Impreza STI не предназначена Ð´Ð»Ñ Ð Ð¾ÑÑийÑкой зимы и дорог?! МожеÑ, быÑ,ÑŒ и не была, но грузовик или Ñ,ракÑ,ор из Ñнега она выÑ,ÑнеÑ,...!
This one's still impressive, though not as over the top:

paging krponik, krponik to the white coutesy phone please....
it's sounding liek an ad to me now
Another thing that calls it into question is that tow rope. It's not a chain, there's no way it has the strength to tow that truck...
Nah, the vid is in Dutch.... we've been having a lot of snow lately. In the last bit they are questioning whether the truck will be able to brake after it has been pulled out of the snow.

Ah, that makes sense -- with a few generations on both sides of my family from Holland and the last name DeVries I can usually at least recognize spoken Dutch, even if I can't speak it. My Russian's a whole lot better (even though it's getting wheezy and creaky...)

When was the last time you towed a 30,000lb + truck?

If I remember right, most snatch straps have rated strengths in the 20K lbs. range -- and that's dangling dead weight, not pulling a vehicle on its own wheels. Parts are going to start flying off the vehicles before you break a strap in good condition. Back when I had a vehicle for such things, I used to carry both an elastic snatch strap like the photo below and a logging chain when I'd go off-road or out to play in the snow. For an extraction like the one that started this thread (about which I remain a skeptic, but still...), I'd have picked the more elastic, dynamic strap over the static chain.
I'd use the chain for towing (instead of tugging) or if I wanted to anchor my truck before using the winch, or other stuff for which I didn't want a springy strap.
An ARB Snatch Strap:

And apparently, coming in two different flavors -- a $27K street version and a $22K track-oriented version (weighty amenities like AC removed, better brakes, stiffer springs). Jalopnik quoting EVO magazine:
"The Toyota FT-86 concept is the fruit of cooperation between Toyota Motor Company and Subaru, and as such will wear a common chassis and some degree of engine commonality. The shared 2.0 liter, four-cylinder boxer engine, dubbed the "C-45 Boxer" and making between 200 and 250 HP, will power the rear wheels through a manual six speed transmission, and get this â€" no hybrid system."

that FT86 looks remarkably like a 350z with a celica bumper on it.
make it awd and look more like the first subbie pic and i'll lust after it.

With my old WRX I had to use either snow chains or snow tires in deep snow/winter conditions otherwise all 4 wheels did spin up, often. Leading to brown marks in my pants at times.
The recommended OE Bridgestone Potenza RE011 were good in the dry but just absolutely shite in the wet and scary in the winter.

Blizzaks would have been a better choice.
