This could become very educational

very cool...except it's a 748 ;)
But, why would he not put a jack under the motor instead of blocks of wood? ???

Awesome vids! I am sure some of the knowledge learned can be translated to the monster line.
good vids, waiting for more [thumbsup]
I just realized that this is the same guy that did the aerostich through a car wash vid.
Not quite as informative, since it's just a time lapse - but by a ne're-do-well DMFer, Drasterhund stripping his 748 in prep for a big bore kit. He's the dark haired fella, and the blond is Donnie Unger of DucPond

educational [popcorn]
Hey guys, glad y'all are enjoying the vids and thanks for linking them over here! I hope they are proving to be educational. :)
In the build portion, I'm covering alot, including steering head bearings, wheel bearings, and swingarm bearings, the workings of the transmission, starter, alternator, and oil pump. I'm also doing a vid on rebuilding the forks, and a how-to on checking and adjusting the desmodromic valvetrain.
If there's anything particular you guys are interested in, let me know and I'll pay special attention to it when I'm putting stuff back together.
Oh, and I need to comment on a couple of things too. :)

I was working by myself and thought this might be easier. If I had help, I would have used the jack for sure.

Guy like to shop at harbor freight :-\ good vids though, waiting for more
I don't really like Harbor Freight that much, but they are much closer to my house than Sears is for some of the oddball stuff. I'm a Craftsman guy. 99% of my tools are Craftsman. :D Cut me a little bit of slack! LOL
Thanks again guys!
Heh - thanks for chiming in. Your Aerostitch review got posted up here a while back too.
And don't take the tech comments too hard ;) - This is a pretty picky crowd when it comes to tech items - be glad that your choice of tools was all that someone found to grouse about.
Hey no problem! YouTube is pretty handy for telling me where my vids get linked, so thought I'd pop on over.
I don't sweat the tech comments too much. I just don't want to be called a Harbor Freight guy. LOL
I'm a Suzuki guy as you can probably tell, so the 748 is a whole new experience for me. It's my fiance's fault. She rides a 1098, and I think she gave me the Ducati bug. LOL
Oh, and Part 6 is up now too if anybody is interested. :D

G-rex nice job - the bike looks great. Did you do any detailed vids on the engine re-build? I am curious about how you solved the problem with the crankshaft rod bearings
Thanks!
I actually did do several detailed videos of the rebuild, as well as a detailed vid on rebuilding the forks, and adjusting the dreaded desmo valves. I haven't edited/posted those yet, but I do have the raw footage and I do intend to get them uploaded.
To answer your question, the crank was out of spec also, so I had to replace the crank as well as the bearings.
I got lucky and found a crank complete with pistons/rods on eBay for $60. At that price, I was willing to take the 50/50 chance that it would be good. It checked out perfect. I ordered new bearings for it, slapped it all together, and voi'la. Runs like a top! :D
I cant wait to see the valve adjustment video. Im getting ready to attempti for the first time myself.
