Was looking for an autodark helmet until i found this little thingy!

Chin operated to open to clear lens and also stay open with a flip.
I like it much better than autodark for the simple fact that im a bit oldschool and do not trust my eyes to technology over mechanical parts.
You're too young to be 'old school'. ;D
My experience is if you use a manual helmet you'll get more flash than with an auto dark.
YMMV
Ive used both and as much as I hate to say it, I agree with Nate. A good quality auto dark is teh shit.
and screw having anything strapped to my chin while I'm trying to move around and shit, that has got to be awkward.
That helmet is designed for guys that get paid welding piece work

I thought the same thing watching the video.
I'm intrigued though, because I'm still ISO a helmet I really like. I've got a pretty good manual helmet, but these days tend to grab the cheap-o autodark because I've gotten addicted to the convenience of it. The thing I don't like about it is that I don't get as good a look at the weld as I'd like -- even at a low setting, I think it's too dark to see anything but the arc clearly, so I don't have as much control over the pool & bead as I'd like.
Anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced auto dark helmet? Otherwise, this might be worth exploring...
I bet the guys who use that have a strong jaw

Why do you wear a welding helmet when you shit?
Shields his eyes from UV and the brightness, what else?
;D

It's like a lightsaber, except it takes way longer for the burning pain to set in.
When i take a shit, its like a mini gamma ray burst. You need to shut off all electronics within the nearby area.
Ive heard of the autodark featuere not working for low light conditions, or its kinda glitchy for TIG welding or welding in the cold. Both of which im doing right now....well the TIG welding is more of me make the beast with two backsing up metal more than anything. :P
also, theres a lot of good reviews on the northerntools autodark helmet if anyone is interested.
$49.99
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200311850_200311850 (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200311850_200311850)
for $99.99 you get a bigger screen.

THis is kind of werid, but, i dont have a light in my bathroom.
Maybe a flashlight?
I'd beware of any AD helmet that's only $50.
I've used them, they blow.
IMO of course.
My favorite is when your contorted, welding and you move the sensor into a "shadow" area (no direct line of sight to the weld) and the dark shuts off and you get flashed.
I have also found they do not darken enough for use with my TIG machine. I see spots afterward.
I just use a regular helmet from Lincoln with the big view window and I love it.
LOVE it.

its shit like that that makes the chin operated one so cool. I dont want to get flashed I got flashed once already this month because my i had to scratch my balls and accidently stepped on the pedal.
[laugh]
yeah, that shit happens.
You have to be deliberate when you have your foot on the pedal and need to stop and do something else.
Like scratch your nuts.
What's wrong with a std helmet that you'd position your torch and filler, flip it down and gas it?

it sucks for stick welding when i have no idea what the make the beast with two backs its going to touch. i kinda have to use 2 hands put it near, strike an arc and hope i didnt move too much. That and my current helmet is a cheapie that just aint comfortable.
Have a local welding supply house?
Stop there and ask questions about AD helmets.
They'll tell you the pros/cons of the cheap ones.
Re: stick welding. . .
never did like it much :) Im a MIG/TIG type of guy.

Stick is great for industrial stuff...like building a stunt cage for a monster. [evil]
Seriously thouhg, i just bought a MIG for pure simplicity. Just trying to get a good deal on a gas tank right now.
As for tig, im still waiting to find a good priced one so i dont have to go to my brohters work to use.
Cant find something well priced in the used market right now so im holding off on actually buying one.
We have a Kobalt ad at work from home cheapo and it sucks, get flashed all the time. I spend more time make the beast with two backsing with it trying to get it to work or get stuck in the dark position than I do welding.
These work.

More than $50 though.
Not a bad way to go.
I've never had an issue with my autodark-it's adjustable for sensitivity, etc. Though iirc, it was $400.
Only get one set of eyes.
i thought the title of this thread was Wedding Helmet [laugh]
....it's early ;D

True...
but anyone that thinks they're gonna get an auto dark that works for $fiddy...
is delusional. ;)
That was the gist of my posts here. . .
I was just trying to be nice about it ;)
You get what you pay for, as MrI mentioned. A nice costly AD helmet will be the shizzle, and a cheap AD helmet will be cheap, and you'll damage your eyes.

Maybe "nice" was the wrong word.
But you are correct in your use of "delusional"
;D
I'll be not nice.
He Man-stop buying tools.
It's a cinch you'll get a job out of state when you graduate. Moving all that shit sucks. Save your money, buy a Honda, get a second job, and pay off any student loans early. You're too poor to own such an expensive bike :-*

Too new. Bike must have a book value of less than your cheapest textbook from last semester.
Think lawnmower engine on a huffy.
