Title: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: Some Dude on February 11, 2010, 05:22:20 PM I am going to build myself a set of rearsets soon. I want something that is a little different and unique. Here are the two designs I've come up with so far. The first one is not that much different than what you can buy And I don't think I want to go that way. The second one is the one I think I want to build. Please give me your thoughts, opinions, likes and dislikes and please be honest you won't hurt my feelings. I know I stole the adjustable arm from Cycle Cat But I kind of like it.
Thanks for looking (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p295/jproct/QuickPicture3.jpg) (http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p295/jproct/QuickPicture2.jpg) Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: corey on February 11, 2010, 07:10:40 PM i think you have your rearset on the wrong side of the bike... should the arm be facing the front??
that second one looks like a cracked piece of aluminum waiting to happen. Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: Ducatl on February 11, 2010, 07:38:51 PM Second one is interesting, you may run into some stiffness issues, what material/thickness are you thinking of using? If machining/material cost isn't an issue have you considered connecting it to one of the lower points on the motor? Edit: swingarm mount hole...duh, that'll probably work fine assuming you machine it to accept the proper pivot shaft.
I've been designing my own sets recently(should have the first pair in my hands on monday) and a big revelation in my design process was deleting the adjustable peg positions. Unless you plan on growing or selling your design then it's really almost useless, just design them exactly for your size/preference. This also has the added benefit of cutting down material costs/machine time and complexity. Just something to think about. #2 really won't work as currently planned without extensive work - I see you've got a mounting hole similar to the S*R series rearsets. That's going to be a tough modification I think. I like #1 better for rigidity, however I would look to Rizoma-rearset inspiration in the sump-mount for additional rigidity. Best of luck to you. Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: junior varsity on February 13, 2010, 01:27:10 PM You guys that are seeing the forward "hole" and thinking its the peg mount would be mistake, the peg is mounted on the eccentric arm.
Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: fasterblkduc on February 13, 2010, 03:29:18 PM Looks good...just like the cyclecats. At least the first one is. I'd suggest keeping the V shape for strength also, and just like someone else said, consider simplifying them to save machining time. If you are making the pegs mount the same as CCs, let me know because I need spares for mine really bad! [beer]

Right now I have the thickness at 14mm (9/16") and the leg that goes up to the frame is 25mm (1") in width.Quote swingarm mount hole...duh, that'll probably work fine assuming you machine it to accept the proper pivot shaft. I should have put that in my original post. I am planing on making a new pivot shaft out of titanium then using a bushing to mount the rearset, Much like the S*R set up.Quote I've been designing my own sets recently(should have the first pair in my hands on monday) and a big revelation in my design process was deleting the adjustable peg positions. This also has the added benefit of cutting down material costs/machine time and complexity. I have been following your build and have been waiting for an update. A big Part of the reason I went with the adjustable CC Style Is that I have a high mount exhaust and I need to space them out so I don't burn my feet.Quote if he's going after the CC setup, the arm holds the footpeg, and is facing the right direction. it's not for the shifter, the shifter attaches underneath.interesting that he's also looking to mount it to the swingarm pivot, though Bingo Quote #2 really won't work as currently planned without extensive work - I see you've got a mounting hole similar to the S*R series rearsets. The plan is to build a new pivot shaft out of Ti, so it shouldn't be that much extra work to tie that in.Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: Some Dude on February 13, 2010, 03:59:09 PM Quote If you are making the pegs mount the same as CCs, let me know because I need spares for mine really bad! I've often thought about drawing some up and getting a few quotes on having a bunch made. Maybe I should do it any Idea what CC Replacements sold for? No one is looking for a discount. We are looking for replacement pegs that aren't made anymore. I had a pair of CC on the bike, then was offered quite a bit of money for them....so they are gone. I tried pressing the rubber bushing out of the stockers....and ruined it. I COULD just turn up a insert to replace the burrer bit (cause you can't buy it seperate), but I'd still be sporting stock rearsets) I can machine the round parts fine on my lathe....but a mill isn't in the works until I get out from under some revolving debt.... Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: Some Dude on February 14, 2010, 03:23:03 PM I'm going to try these shock bushings from Summit Racing
Click Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330399598070&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT) I looked for weeks for something like the stock bushings and I found 1 place that could get them but they were $15ea. And a minimum order of 400. They also found something similar for me but it would have been $25 Ea. If the shock bushings don't work I'm going to look at These (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ducati-DAMPING-PAD-ST2-ST4-900SS-01-Silent-Block_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5ad58cdd04QQitemZ390129835268QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: TAftonomos on February 14, 2010, 04:49:08 PM I can turn some delrin, bore a hole and press in a sleeve. Would appear to be factory. Of course, if I can buy the OEM ones for $10, I'll just do that :)
Thanks for the link.....what ideas do you have for modding the stockers? PM me! What do ya need milled? Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: Some Dude on February 15, 2010, 10:20:14 AM I have an old CC peg From a set I bought to repair and sell. I can get most of the measurements I need from that. Could somebody put up a good picture showing both ends, and give me a measurement from end to end. The peg I have has the outside end ground off.
Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: TAftonomos on February 20, 2010, 03:03:36 PM I'll take pics of mine tomorrow...right before I box them up and ship them off to the new owner :-[
I have some good ideas about what a new set would look like, but I can't draw/CAD worth a darn. Would take me twice as long to draw them as it would for me to knaw them out of billet with my teeth! Title: Re: Custom Rearsets Opinions, Thoughts, Criticism's please Post by: DucLeone on January 20, 2011, 05:16:46 AM BUMP!!
any decision on the 3 hole adjuster arms for the Cycle cat s*R rearsets? really would like to replace mine!! |
