Title: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: Travman on February 24, 2010, 03:48:23 PM Yamaha's new XT1200Z Super Ténéré looks to be competition to the new Multistrada 1200 in Europe. The powerplant features a parallel twin motor with four valves per cylinder, and makes 108hp @ 7,250 RPM and 84lbs•ft @ 6,000 RPM.

I think the headlight protection and the two round lights are accessories. Since the spokes don't pass through the rim there is no need to worry about sealing the spokes. (http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/wp-content/gallery/yamaha-xt1200z-super-tenere/yamaha-xt1200z-super-tenere-27.jpg) Interesting side mounted radiator with a fan (cover has been removed in this picture). Hope the fan isn't obnouxiously loud like the ones on the Buells. I think the radiator is only on one side because the right side does not have a large vent like the left side. Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: LA on February 25, 2010, 06:32:33 AM I have to wonder how they're handling balance/counter balance in that engine.
From an engineering perspective I sure like the 90 degrees layout of a Ducati a whole lot better. I bet it is a good bike though. I like it. mitt Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: mitt on February 25, 2010, 06:43:05 AM I have to wonder how they're handling balance/counter balance in that engine. If bmw and triumph can do it well, I am sure Yamaha can too. mitt Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: Duck-Stew on February 25, 2010, 07:12:36 AM Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: Raux on February 25, 2010, 01:19:36 PM the MTS is more road bike than this huge bike. now if the MTS could just drop the beak.
Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: LA on February 27, 2010, 04:33:13 PM I did the math on that thing. It's 100 lbs. heavier than the Ducati of the same ilk.
Weight! ...... It matters. Oh yea, HP matters too. LA Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: zenjim on March 01, 2010, 07:31:50 AM and no beak!
Title: Re: Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré Post by: Triple J on March 01, 2010, 07:54:42 AM Ugly. I'd personally take the Guzzi Stelvio over it. The Stelvio isn't any lighter but looks better IMO, and I suspect I'd like the engine better. Good competition for the 1200GS though...although we probably won't see it in the US.
I don't think it is direct competition for the MTS1200. The MTS is more street oriented...like the Tiger 1050. The tubeless spoke wheels are nothing new...both the GS and Stelvio run them (although they're an option on the new GSs).
