I generally love the darks, but the 848 and 1*98 look better in red and white. At least they should have used the red frame.

ain't that odd....
I generally dislike darks but really like Joels' 1098
My question is what else is cheaper on the dark beside the lack of clearcoat? My S2R Dark had inferion bars, brakes and no seat cowl compared to the standard S2R
It's the base 848.

There is usually still a clear coat, its just an Eggshell clear as opposed to a full gloss clear.
Has anyone actually seen one yet?
Its debut is in Daytona.
I'll trade you my slightly used S2R

Not on the Monster Darks, and I doubt on the 848.
They are a single stage system.
Also they skip a step in prep because the low gloss paint doesn't show the normal irregularities of manufacture.

ok waiting for the first person to get one of these and really make it dark. darken the rearsets (removing the pillion set), windscreen, forks, triples, exhausts and swingarm.

Have a couple of them at Ducati Scottsdale. One already has the black swingarm on it.
That bike is beautiful but the one that REALLY caught my eye was the 1198S that a woman just traded her Bayliss in for.
1198S black with red frame [thumbsup]

Yep, if only I had the $. This bike is my ultimate dream bike.
I would darken every possible part for sure.

1198R is sick, but it's no road bike.

I could be happy with one on the road and even though there would lots of times that both of us would be totally miserable I'd still be happy. If worse came to worse I'd just knock back some beers and look at it in the garage.
I respect the 1198R but think it's too busy visually. Too badge happy, ya know? I wouldn't kick one out of bed, but a simpler color scheme would do wonders. To tell the truth, when i first saw the bike I was surprised that Ducati went with something so..."look-at-me" The Bayliss Edition, too. But I am a guy who prefers subtlety :-\
No different than any other superbike on the track. Looks a hell of a lot better than the Hayden edition

the fork sliders are black nitrided
848 dark= hottest bike in the Ducati lineup! [bow_down]
I saw one in Daytona, at the Ducati / BMW dealer. Not sure I like it. And is there a clear coat? My dark 696 sure doesn't seem so. Nothing over the Ducati stickers.

DLC, not nitride.

no clear coat.
How does the 848 compare to a 998 Testatretta engine (i.e. S4RS) as far as power? I've always like the bike and would be up to change my current one for one - I guess a test ride is in store for me. :)
Mario - I think all S2R's had the same brakes regardless of color, or am I wrong here?
I've seen plenty of S2r's around here that have the lower end front brakes.
I am going all out dark on my S4r.
of course with a splash of color in there.
Waiting on the new motor now, then paint.
