Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: Raux on March 06, 2010, 07:10:57 AM ok couple of things.
one.. NO wheelspin on take off. no tire marks, nothing but instanteous pull. but two... he slides it when he stops like he's on ice... hmmmm Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: superjohn on March 06, 2010, 08:02:43 AM That's the colour scheme I like best on that bike. Very cool.

BMW motorsports scheme, its what they put on all there race cars. I had a E30 M3 with that paints scheme Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: Raux on March 07, 2010, 01:05:25 AM When does he slide like he's on ice? So, your point being what? i can't see how he had that much traction on takeoff to pull that thing like that. i would have expected it to drop stuff when it first moved due to tire spin. Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! You're correct. It would have to be much faster from the start. Obviously a fake - can't be done. I have 0 years restaurant business experience to prove it, but I have been drunk enough to try. Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: Duck-Stew on March 07, 2010, 07:04:45 AM Traction control maybe?
Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: Triple J on March 07, 2010, 07:22:46 AM Obviously a fake - can't be done. +1 It doesn't even look real. But, it is a cool commercial. [thumbsup] Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: tilt on March 07, 2010, 07:33:14 AM why couldnt it be done if you get a little slack in the line i believe it is possible, still cool either way
Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: superjohn on March 07, 2010, 07:59:01 AM why couldnt it be done if you get a little slack in the line i believe it is possible, still cool either way You would have to have precise, even and quick action across the entire run with minimal friction and maximum inertia from the stationary objects on the table. Even then, I'm not certain there's any way to get the table cloth all the way across without friction eventually overcoming inertia on the last items on the table causing them to move/fall. Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: booger on March 07, 2010, 08:09:07 AM I think they faked it but it was real. Let me explain. 1) they got the flattest table they could find, with a nice slick smooth new polyurethane finish 2) they waxed that sucka with carnauba and orbital buffer 3) they either starched the shit out of the very high threadcount sheet(for a flat smooth texture and stiffness) or they used a lot of softener on it or both. I slip n slide all over the place & bust my ass sometimes walking on a bare hardwood floor in socks that had been Downied.
4)then they tied all the dishes and vases and all that crap together with fishing line and secured it somewhere out of the shot. It's always fishing line! Doh [bang] can't fool me If you look again you'll see some wheelspin on takeoff. At least I think I'm seeing some. Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: stopintime on March 07, 2010, 08:12:55 AM why couldnt it be done if you get a little slack in the line i believe it is possible, still cool either way Time for a little imagination. Let's say a human pull is as fast as a punch. Quick search says 80mph for the fastest human punch. My guess is you'd be ok pulling at 60mph. So, the bike would have to reach that speed before it begins pulling at the table cloth. Even then, I suspect the table cloth to be all over the place - not sliding flat under all that kitchenware. A challenge for TopGear? "How hard can it be?" Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: ducpainter on March 07, 2010, 08:21:59 AM Time for a little imagination. Post by: kopfjäger on March 07, 2010, 06:00:44 PM I heard they only made one attempt at this, so as not to make the non believers think otherwise. ;) I'll jump out on the limb, and say if it was a dookatti, everyone would be cheering. Why is it a fake? Have you watched it? There is no way in hell all of that stuff would stay on the table like that. It's a fake of some sort, whether by computer or by somehow securing the glasses and such so they won't fall over. Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: Bick on March 08, 2010, 06:53:43 AM I found it creative and entertaining.
Fake? No way! What's next? You going to try to tell me that WWF and reality tv are fake, too?!!! Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! If you hear the words Santa Claus, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COVER YOUR EARS!!! Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER! Post by: LA on March 09, 2010, 11:10:58 AM You know, like I said at first, for me it really doesn't matter fake or for real here - I laughed out loud.
But after watching over and over from the point of the wheel spin, of which there is plenty and watch the candle holders all shake at the same time and really notice the table cloth moving over and over and over, I think it really could be done - albeit with a lot of prep and careful planning. I dooo want to see it on TOP GEAR. And what was that wise crack about Santa Claus? LA Title: Re: BMW S1000rr for DINNER!
