The first run of the season has started! My favorite time of year in DC. Went out on Friday out of North East, MD and hammered the yellow perch.....

That's Angus Phillips the (retired) Washington Post outdoor columnist to the right of me.
Filleted half and left the other half whole, which I grilled tonight!

Are you talking about the UP? I love that place, went up every summer as a kid now just every few years. My family has a cabin on a small lake about 15 miles west of Munising.

I've heard of Munising. That's
WAYYY up by Michigan Tech!
To Michiganders..anything north of your location (no matter where you are in the state) is considered "up north". ;)
My mom just left here (PHX) last week to move back to MI..Drummond Island to be exact. WTF? Still winter back there.
Anyway, fish & chips sound good!!
Anything north of that would be in Lake Superior!
The op mentioned DC and MD. Please pay attention in class. :D

Minnows. We tried plastic and it worked, but not as well as the minners. The water is still way cold. I'm out of town for work for the next couple of days, but will be back down to my favorite creek in Southern MD as soon as I'm back. I usually use plastics there but will sometimes bring some grass shrimp.

I love smelt. Dredged in a little cornmeal and fried hard, they are like popcorn. I've tried fishing for them through the ice in NH rivers, but wasn't very successful. Hard to fill a bucket with those one fish at a time....
Dont you mean, "Welcome to Walmart, popcorn is in aisle 5". Ya geez!
[running like Radar O'Reilly]
