Title: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ICON on March 15, 2010, 01:14:53 PM I have a set coming this week and want some opinions. I've used regular Pilot's and the 2ct's. I'll post up a review with pics once I get them on and Canyon tested. [moto]

Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ICON on March 15, 2010, 04:44:59 PM I got them for $259 shipped. You can find them on ebay for the same price too.
This is where I got them and they list prices on the 2ct too. http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Categories.bok?category=Michelin+Tire+Detail (http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Categories.bok?category=Michelin+Tire+Detail) Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ICON on April 20, 2010, 06:40:55 AM Ok, I got these bad boys mounted and broken in. My first impression was that the rear tire looked thinner than the 2ct while off of the wheel...now mounted it looks to be about the same size. They are pretty light too. In mounting them the front tire seems to be a little wider/rounded compared to the 2ct. The rear also has a rounder profile as apposed to the cone shape. I'm not sure if this is with every tire but with the front, I was able to push the tread down and side to side while mounted. I almost thought I needed more air, but it was fine. Very soft tread from what I can feel.
Once in the canyons I noticed the turn in was not as quick as before, but it was very stable. I was able to break them in very quick with no slippage. I have about a 1/4 of an inch left on both sides on my first run. I should know more once I push her harder on a warmer day. For now I like the feel...and they look pretty cool. Peace. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: mattyvas on April 23, 2010, 08:00:45 PM I'll be keeping my eye out also.
Have Super Corsa Pro's currently but I'll need new hoops soon. Love to Pro's but they don't give much in wet weather very skatey. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: pennyrobber on April 24, 2010, 08:19:34 AM As soon as my front tire is done, I think I am going with a Pilot Pure. Hopefully it will get along with my Road 2 rear.
Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: Link on April 24, 2010, 01:43:01 PM That's odd about the turn in as the PP are superposed to be lbs. lighter which drastically reduces your un sprung weight making the gyro affect on steering a lot less which should mean much easier steering. Maybe with the rounder profile you don't get the feeling of the bike "dropping" into the turn. Please keep the feed back coming I've been using nothing but Mich. for the last 7 years on the race bikes and street bikes I never found a better tire for wear & grip. There is a great write up in the May issue of roadracing world mag. on the PP the guys testing loved em.

Post by: ducpainter on April 25, 2010, 03:23:54 AM That's odd about the turn in as the PP are superposed to be lbs. lighter <snip> Than 'some' competitors tires. I don't think it's necessarily true of the rest of the Michelin line, so a rounder profile would indeed slow turn in. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Did you read the review in RR ? I'm pretty sure the new tire is about 1.5LBS lighter then the 2CT front. I'll dig out the mag. and re-read it. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ungeheuer on May 01, 2010, 02:39:33 AM My Bridgestone Battlax 016's went for one ride too many today..... lol.... @ 6880 kms the rear tyre's steel belt exposed itself :o !! Most of my riding is on twisties too, I wonder how soon the rear tyre would have done its centre if the bike spent the majority of its time bolt-upright? The sides of the front tyre are absolutely scrubbed to buggery too...... Great tyres, stuck like shit to a blanket...... but 6880 kms is too few.
Monday, Michelin Power Pure's go on ($259 a pair..?!!? :P [puke] [laugh], Down Here I get me a pair for around $450 fitted - and thats a good price too). Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: mattyvas on May 04, 2010, 01:22:33 AM $450 fitted.
Best I have seen them so far is $230 front, $320 rear = $550 Where do you find them for $450 fitted? Oh and my Super Corsa Pro's just got plugged (rear) this week so I think I'll be trading in a couple of months. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ungeheuer on May 04, 2010, 05:22:27 PM Since we're talking with our American mates here Matty, I'm speaking their dollars. So.... US$450. I actually handed over AU$500 fitted. Got em at my local Mexitorian Ducati Dealer >> http://www.metroducati.com.au/# (http://www.metroducati.com.au/#) << Ask for Rick, he's the man and general good bloke [thumbsup].
Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: mattyvas on May 04, 2010, 09:59:30 PM It'd be a bit of a ride for me to get there as I'm far far north of you.
I'll make sure I pay that when I put them on. So if yo have them on now how do they go? Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Being that I've had several years on Pilot Powers/2ct's the round profile on the Pure threw my game off a little on initial break in. This past Sunday I stretched her legs out and I must say I'm sold on the profile. Very, very happy with these tires. I will be buying another set.
The temp was high 60's, low, low 70's with some cloudiness but the roads were very (Azusa side) clean. My first pass was up Azusa, pushing her in the turns, getting a feel. Then I hit the back-side of GMR, still heading up hill. Here I had more shadows, some sand and temps were more on the chilly side but I still had no slippage. After resting we decided to head back down the way we came. I wanted to open her up on Azusa. The front side of GMR does not appeal to me as much...I hate roads with cracks. Once we came down GMR and to Azusa/39 I was able to push her hard. Dumping her into a turn on late breaking felt great, throttle on exit was perfect too and full throttle, no problem. I hit a double-apex at a good speed and she stuck like glue. I'm not a big fan of Blind right turns but, today for some reason I had a blast. I was at one with my Monster and her new shoes. Once off of the bike I did not see much pealing of rubber if any. They seem to be wearing pretty good. Remember, ride at your own pace. Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: Moronic on May 10, 2010, 05:21:51 PM Thanks very much for the report, icon, I'd been looking forward to this. Was disappointed to hear about the rounded profile but interested it ended up working for you notwithstanding your prior preference. Hope you can keep us in the loop as your appreciation of these tyres develops and regarding wear.
Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: ungeheuer on May 10, 2010, 06:27:45 PM Took mine out for their 100km inaugural blat. Cool weather but dry roads, tyres seemed to scrub in pretty quickly. Regarding warm up times, I cant really comment as I was taking it pretty steady to begin with. Pretty soon found myself not thinking about the tyres though and got stuck into it along some familiar twisties [moto]. That I soon stopped noticing 'em seems to indicate no cause for concern with this rubber.
While I was paying attention to the nature of the tyres, my first impressions were that turn-in was slower than my Battlaxes. Although this I think is more a reflection of my shagged out Bridgestones, the front tyre was worn into a rounded V shape and the rear was three flat surfaces rather than the continuous curve of a new tyre. The Battlaxes had the tendency to "flop" into a turn. I much prefer the linear feel of these new tyres, very confidence inspiring. Wear? Much too soon to tell. The early verdict? Grippy and precise [thumbsup] Odd lookin' tread-pattern though.... Title: Re: Anyone here running Pilot Pure tires? Post by: mattyvas on May 11, 2010, 01:03:13 AM Thanks for the reports.
I do remember my PP's and that the turn was a little slow but very smooth. Looking forward to putting these on my bike soon. |
