Title: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: Charlief on March 28, 2010, 06:44:23 AM It all started when I got a shiney new tank from Ducati late last year. I decided that the rest of the bike looked a little rough. Being five years old and about 12k on the clock it was time for upgrades and a good cleaning.
I got some adjustable showas off eBay to upgrade the front end. I had Eric, from Clubhouse Motorsports, rebuild the forks with racetech goodness. Nate (Ducpainter) refreshed my plastics to like new condition [thumbsup] I had the fork tubes, ride height adjuster, heel guards, ohlins stabilizer brackets, Rear brake carrier, and the bar risers all black hardcoat anodized. (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-16.jpg) I took the triples and ground down all the casting burrs. Then had them along with rear sprocket carrier and belt covers powder coated pumpkin. The color match to the tangerine on the bike is almost an exact match. I also pimped out my grill [cheeky] (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-13.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-33.jpg) I took the rear swing arm apart and had it pc'ed black. Looks great ! I put new head bearings in... New tires.... And some new bars and barends (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-44.jpg) The exhaust is stock with a dp midpipe. The cans are cored and then ceramic coated. I took the guard off the top can and the bolt holes tigged and ground smooth. You would never guess there were holes there.... Seamless and smooth. (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-53.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-54.jpg) Because I run with twin lights and the fairing... I made this abs piece to fit behind the fairing. Without it the gap showed all the wiring behind the lights. This piece made it look cleaner. (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-31.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-48.jpg) Posted pics are in no particular order. (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-50.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-49.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-47.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-46.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-45.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-45.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-42.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-39.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-37.jpg) my build partner (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-34.jpg) (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-30.jpg) I do want to thank a few people. Without their help I don't think I could done this project Gage(Stefan) for giving the extra hand when needed. Monstermash (Tom) for the axle and advice on rear swingarm Heman (Kui) fir the quick answers to my questions. Eric at Clubhouse Motorsports. Nate ( ducpainter) for the great job on the plastics. And my wife Jill. She just understands the need for a guy to tinker. :-* Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: booger on March 28, 2010, 07:08:03 AM I really like what you've done. Are the mufflers fully or partially cored? I like the heat shield deletion, nice work there. That's a hot bike. Dog is cute.
I'm thinking though now you might want to look at lowering the headlight, just seems like a huge amount of space between the light and the front fender. Also, the side engine cases and rearsets would look good PCed black. Maybe chop the cans a couple? Your work is giving me ideas for my own, thanks Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: jim_0068 on March 28, 2010, 01:40:32 PM Looks awesome, question: I see you have risers on your bike; did you need them with the new monster adjustable forks or was it just something you wanted to do? Also what monster forks did u use?
Thanks and again, awesome work Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: Charlief on March 28, 2010, 01:49:29 PM thats a supertone horn right? very nice work sir, i like the dual lights and fairing look too [thumbsup] (http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff27/charlieff/photo-50.jpg) The horns are Hella super tones. One under the lights ad the other located in the stock location. They are VERY loud and annoying. Looks awesome, question: I see you have risers on your bike; did you need them with the new monster adjustable forks or was it just something you wanted to do? Also what monster forks did u use? Thanks and again, awesome work The risers are needed cuz I'm old! It's just a comfort issue for me. The forks were off a S2R100 Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: DucatiTorrey on March 29, 2010, 03:07:55 AM suburban machinery bars. I had the bars powdercoated . Really. How did it work out? I talked to suburban Machinery and they said they could not be PC'd! hmmmmm >:( Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: corey on March 29, 2010, 04:22:36 AM them saying that is probably a liabilty thing... you would want to mask off the clamping points (i guess mark them with a marker while on the bike?) before you have them coated. basically, you don't want to be clamping on powdercoating, as it could crumble, and your bars could come loose. but if you mask that area off pretty accurately, you shouldn't really have any problems! same thing goes with the control area.
charlie has a picture of the bars coated, but not installed somewhere on the forum... Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 29, 2010, 06:08:02 AM Dude! Nicely done. [thumbsup] The mods work well w/each other and you can tell there was thought behind it all.

Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: Charlief on April 04, 2010, 02:18:48 AM Really. How did it work out? I talked to suburban Machinery and they said they could not be PC'd! hmmmmm >:( Sorry I missed your question..... When I talked to SM to order the bars I told him to pop out the plastic caps and include new ones for I was pc'ing them. The gentleman I talked to said "oh cool... no problem". If you do pc just make sure the grip area/throttle tube is not coated. I didn't have the clamping area masked off and have had no problems. Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: brad black on April 05, 2010, 12:23:13 AM some thoughts, based on my idea that bikes need to have 3 colours only, two of them being black and silver. unless it's a tri colore with a heap of colours.
get some 749/999 4 pad silver calipers. paint the front disc centres black (or silver). paint the shock spring black or pumpkin. anodize the footrests and brackets, etc black as well. paint the "DUCATI" on the clutch cover tangerine. does it have black handlebar m/cyls? if not get some. pretty impressive amount of work. Title: Re: I finally finished it.... Refresh of my S2R800 Post by: uclabiker06 on April 07, 2010, 07:50:33 PM Pretty, nice pipes.
