Title: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 07, 2010, 09:13:18 AM Anyone feel like recommending a next bike? I am always thinking about the next bike, so I am wondering if there are any good prospects I have missed. Here is what I would like in the next bike: adjustable front and rear suspension; probably at least a half fairing; relatively light (wet weight under 480) ; reasonable seat height (around 32 inches and under is fine); around 800 cc's; and lastly ABS would be nice also.
Any advice would be great! Thanks! Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: The Bearded Duc on April 07, 2010, 09:59:19 AM SV1000. Higher in the cc department than you stated but it pretty much meets all the other stated requirements.
Dry weight: 407.9-416.9 (depending on model) Seat Height: 31.9 Available as a half faired model (and I think full faired) Adjustable front and rear suspension Available ABS Everything else on the bike is pretty good as well! And Fast! [moto] I think the MSRP on the S model(usually full faired) is under 10k with the half faired and naked models respectively cheaper. Should meet all the requirements. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: The Bearded Duc on April 07, 2010, 10:31:56 AM Heathen! Burn the witch! F800s BMW. Should meet all the requirements. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] Yeah the BMW will work too! Guess someone should change the name from DMF to DM/BMWF. ;) Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: rockaduc on April 07, 2010, 10:44:38 AM Honda VFR
Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: Spidey on April 07, 2010, 10:47:57 AM Uh . . what do you want the bike for?
Cuz a VFR is a bad cruiser, a SV1000 is a bad supermoto, and a F800 is a poor trackbike. Should meet all the requirements. I don't believe the suspension is adjustable. Uh . . what do you want the bike for? +1 This is more important than all the requirements you gave. ;) Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: mikeb on April 07, 2010, 11:16:58 AM The SV1000 immediately popped into my mind. I done some track time on one and it's a really great bike.
I've also spent some time on the BMW F800. Also a really cool bike. I'd actually like to get one at some point. Triump Street Triple R. I'd say look for a nice used Aprilia Falco. I've always wanted one..... Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 07, 2010, 11:32:57 AM Uh . . what do you want the bike for? I want an all around bike, probably more on the standard end. I want a bike that is more stable and more comfortable on the highway than my 696. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 07, 2010, 11:34:17 AM Triump Street Triple R. The Street Triple is on the list. I'd also consider the F800S/ST. Plus you can still take the ST3 on some canyon jaunts! ;D On my "next" list for sure. With saddle bags!! Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 07, 2010, 12:09:37 PM What is the seat height of an ST3?
I was thinking along the lines of an FZ1 or a 2010 Z1000. Any thoughts? Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: The Bearded Duc on April 07, 2010, 12:12:02 PM What is the seat height of an ST3? Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: mikeb on April 07, 2010, 12:22:33 PM I'd also consider the F800S/ST. I spent some time on an ST. Loved it. I'd prefer the styling of the S.....but they're basically the same bike. Demo one if you can. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: DucHead on April 07, 2010, 12:33:18 PM You already owned the cousin of the best all-arounder there is: Suzuki Bandit 1200S. ;)
You've been on the Max 'zuk site, so you know that people track them, drag them, streetfighter them, tour on them, and commute on them. There's an absolute shite-ton of aftermarket parts. If you get bored, you can turn the 1200 (actually 1157 cc) into a 1277 with >160 rwhp. [evil] The older model 1200s (<2006) are air/oil cooled and not quite as heavy as the new liquid-cooled models. They weigh in around 450 lbs., but if you replace the exhaust can, you loose about 15 lbs. No ABS though. [popcorn] P.S. I just put a radar detector and Scottoiler on mine and I'm gettin' ready for Crazy Horse/Mt. Rushmore/etc. trip in a few weeks. Both are nice bikes. I think the fazer is the only one that is available with any sort of significant fairing though. They're both around the same price range, if that's a concern. If that's what you're leaning towards I'd say either one is good, the aesthetics are completely up to you. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: 1KDS on April 07, 2010, 12:49:46 PM yeah I'm a big fan, I see one in the future, not as a sole bike, but part of a stable with some more sporty companions

(http://www.blogcdn.com/uk.autoblog.com/media/2009/11/ducati-multistrada-450a-111209.jpg) The money is one thing. The seat height is quite another. It is a sweet bike though. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: Triple J on April 07, 2010, 01:30:49 PM The money is one thing. The seat height is quite another. It is a sweet bike though. How tall are you? It is quite easy to get use to taller bikes. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 07, 2010, 01:34:34 PM How tall are you? It is quite easy to get use to taller bikes. I'm 5'5. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: The Bearded Duc on April 07, 2010, 02:58:49 PM I'm 5'5. You can have the foam shaved on most of the seats that are just a bit over your desired height. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: Popeye the Sailor on April 07, 2010, 03:17:26 PM I'm 5'5. I'd say BMW 1200GSA, if only to satisfy my sense of proportion :D Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: slyfox on April 07, 2010, 05:12:47 PM I'd go for the latest Z1000
Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: Triple J on April 07, 2010, 06:26:01 PM I'm 5'5. Don't give up. ;) I'm 5'8" (and a half [cheeky]) and rode a stock 1200GS just fine. The stock Multi is a piece of cake. My wife is 5'3" and she rode a Multi 620 with a lowering link. That's since been sold but she can ride my Multi with the shaved seat on it. A lot of it is just getting used to not flat footing the bike. There are ways to get pretty much any bike you want. ;D The KTM 990 Adventure may be out though...that bike is friggin' tall! Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 08, 2010, 01:39:18 AM I'd say BMW 1200GSA, if only to satisfy my sense of proportion :D That is a massive bike. I'd go for the latest Z1000 The Z is at the top of the list. I haven't sat on one yet though. I did sit on the previous Z and liked it a lot. The KTM 990 Adventure may be out though...that bike is friggin' tall! I do like the KTMs, but they are all really tall it seems. Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: wantingaduc on April 08, 2010, 05:47:01 AM new multi, new multi, new multi.
Everything I've seen so far is saying it's the shizzel, and with the S you get fully adjustable electronic Ohlins. I haven't been to a dealer that has one yet but I'd be willing to bet the seat height isn't as bad as the bimmer and they will probably offer a low seat option too considering that they want it to be an all around bike. I'm only 5'6" and I just fit the Hyper on tip toe. But once under way it was a ball so if the multi is near that tall and only a bit heavier I would think it would be a very worthy consideration. It might be worth posting a note or to the folks at Duc Sea or AMS and seeing if you can get all the specifics about it. I'm betting that they're going to be pretty hard to get once they finally start hitting dealers floors. jimi Title: Re: Next bike help please Post by: RC Fan on April 08, 2010, 06:06:11 AM It might be worth posting a note or to the folks at Duc Sea or AMS and seeing if you can get all the specifics about it. Even if I wasn't so cheap, (which I am) I can't see myself paying that much for a bike. I could get several bikes for that. Everything I have read indicates that it is a great bike though. |
