Title: The Official Butter Thread.
Post by: MendoDave on April 12, 2010, 04:41:22 AM
"Most everything tastes better with Butter"

Think about having toast or popcorn without butter. Fish fries up nice and crispy with butter, chocolate chip cookies are made with butter. Sometimes a nice piece of butter off the stick is good too. What do you like about butter?

Butter has many many uses.

And it's the universal conduit between this world and the next, not water, as they point out in 'Constantine'.  They did it wrong, Rachel Weisz should have been submerged in butter.

I like making compound butters, especially around thanksgiving.  This past year I made a butter with rosemary, sage, thyme, and black truffle, and I stuffed it under neath the skin of the turkey before putting it in the oven.

I had a place here for a while that would get in 40 lb blocks of grade B butter.  They would just chunk it up with a wire - that stuff was the best butter I ever had.

I laugh thinking about the Simpson's 'Treehouse of Horrors' episode where the students are eating the kids, and the homework assignment is "Eat a stick of butter".

One of my favorite Simpson conversations:

Homer: So you think you know better than this family, eh? Well as long as you're in my house you'll do what I do and believe what I believe! So butter your bacon!
Bart: Yes father.
Homer: ... Bacon up that sausage, boy!
Bart: But dad, my heart hurts!

Margarine does not enter this house.  Margarine = turkey bacon [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke]

If I am going to shake anything that rigorously with both hands it won't be a jar of cream  ;D

wasn't it established that it's cheese?

;)

It can be butter if you really want it to be. And cheese is closely related to butter anyway.  ;)

I'm tempted to try and make that bacon mug sometime . . .

but I'm also very afraid of it.  I imagine it has powers similar to the Vigo painting in Ghosbusters.

On topic:

Butter itself is, of course, great.

Combine it with things, and it becomes even greater!

Honey Pecan Butter! (http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/Smokey-Bones-Honey-Pecan-Butter-200517) Makes any cornmeal derivative absolutely irresistible. OM NOM NOM NOM.

I do think it is cheese, but that doesn't change your opinion much though, does it?

Will be trying my hand at making homemade croissants later this week.  I am predicting failure, but on the plus side, I will be well stocked in butter.
