I was listening to Ray Charles today, and was reminded that when I finally got around to getting tickets to see him live, he passed away before the concert. Though he was past his prime, he was still legendary, and I smacked myself for delaying seeing him. That got me to thinking of the people I've been fortunate to see before they died, such as:
Stevie Ray Vaughan (3x) (the only person whose death I ever wept about that I didn't actually know.)
Albert King
Boston with Brad Delp
Ruth Brown
Jeff Healey
Albert Collins
What are some of the acts you folks have been lucky enough to see?
Joel
The real entire cast of the Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East farewell show...yeagh I am old
Ray Charles in Central Park
probably a ton of others...if you list who is dead I can probably remember if I saw them or not
saw Cream in MSG farewell tour in 66 or 67 iirc...but I think they are all still alive
seen a bunch before they broke up but so far no one who has died
Willie is coming to Portland this summer
HAVE to see him
He's getting long in the tooth

That might be difficult....the Portland show is on our wedding day and the Bend show is the day before....you want tix to the Bend show?
;D
I'm usually on the other side of the equation and the artist passes before I can see them, but I'm glad I got to see my bass hero John Entwistle before he died. Peter Steele was another one that I'm glad to have seen with Type O now that he's passed.
I saw Hendrix a couple of times
SRV
Son Seals
Cedell Davis

Elvis
Warren Zevon
John Entwistle

that's a pretty awesome list actually.......I would have loved to have seen SRV, Albert King, and Albert Collins.
I did see boston as a kid and have seen Jeff Healey a few times. I think my favourite Jeff Healey show was at his bar after he started playing 20's and 30's era jazz stuff. He also played some trumpet during the show, which was really entertaining.
The Ramones

I never knew they made a CD of it...yes Albert King, Allman Bros. and J Geils we left after the Allman Bros as we were so wasted
sad to say I wasn't much of a fan of any of the final acts so I didn't mind leaving...
it didn't register as anything significant at the time...not much did back then....
the tickets were free from a friend whose father was in the business
emma kelly in Savannah

It could have been a different performance.
had to run to my CD collection to check, but it was recorded March 12-13 1971.
I might have to go listen to 33 minutes of amazingness right now.........Mountain Jam. I think one of the best live tracks ever recorded (but then again, I think Do you Feel like we do by Frampton is also very good)
I remember posting this in another thread a while back. I once got to be conducted by Sir Georg Solti. [bow_down] [bow_down]
Not a concert I went to but...
one of my wife's former co-workers was at the Dimebag Darrell (I can't think of the band because I hated them) Concert here in Columbus where he was killed.
Apparently this guy was the last one to get a picture taken with him and it pictured in some sort of biography book about his "amazing" life.

Peter Steele just died from heart failure on the 14th of this month.

I don't do this much, because it brings up too many memories, but. . .
Pink Floyd, (After Sid, before Roger)
Grateful Dead (Too numerous to count)
Led Zeppelin
Edgar Winter Group
John Lennon (Solo)
Frank Zappa
Lynyrd Skynyrd (W/ Ronnie Van Zant)
Crack The Sky
Probably more, I just haven't kept track of who's died in the past few years.
Does it count when band members go but the band still plays on?
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
Ramones
The Who (does this count after their 52nd "Farewell" tour?)
The Clash
The Pretenders
Ray Charles
Jeff Healey
James Brown
Pantera
Ozzy (Randy Rhoads)
Grateful Dead
Queen
Les Paul
The Ventures
Just to remember a few ...

Who died?
1/4 Ounce Darrel......er........Dimebag Darrell...........guitar player for Pantera. (note: he was a good metal guitarist, just not my style nor do I respect someone that changes their name to "Dimebag")
He got shot and killed by some lunatic in Columbus, OH a few years ago.
Randy,
envious of your Pink Floyd concert.
The only Floyd I ever come across are those stupid laser shows or some shitty cover band.
Leonard Cohen (premature I know but souldn't be long now ;))

Yeah...I know for some it might seem like something they don't want to remember, but I thought it would give me a sense of people's eras and tastes in music. There are some great musicians in here. good inspiration to get out there and see more live music too. Even in just your message...Zappa, John Lennon, Zeppelin. Awesome.
Miles Davis
Jimi Hendrix Experience.... ( all dead )
Uriah Heep 2X......( before David Byron and Gary Thain died )
Traffic 2X............( long before Jim Capaldi , their original Drummer died)
Beach Boys......( long before Dennis Wilson , drummer died )
Mountain 2X.........(original Bass player, Felix Pappalardi )
Chicago...........(before Terry Kath , the original lead guitarist died )
I saw all these bands in the late '60's and one in the early '70's.
Dolph :)
this thread makes me seriously upset. music died before i was born.
i did however, kinda sorta get to see the Grateful Dead...but I was in utero so I really don't remember it.

My dear Lu, just go to You Tube and you can kinda see them live !
Dolph :)
Haven't seen anyone who's passed away (that I know of), but I did get to see the Guns -N- Roses/Metallica/Faith No More concert.
Awesome, awesome show...
Stevie Ray Vaughan hit me pretty hard as I had just seen him. Saw him about a year before he died and heard the news on the radio. Couldn't listen to him for a couple years. Saw Morphine a couple times before Mark Sandman passed. Was really, really into Chris Whitley and saw him live at least twice. Have all his albums. Got to see Mitch Headberg (comedian) just before he died also. Those are the ones I can think of for now...almost makes me not want to go out and see live music!
