Title: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: psycledelic on May 05, 2010, 06:29:11 PM It sucks to be grown up and responsible sometimes. I have been wanting the DP carbon solo seat since the first time I saw one. I had every intention of nabbing one off ebay yesterday. I bid from day one (to drop the buy it now) and was planning on throwing down with any would be bidders until the last second if neccessary. Nothing was going to stop me....I thought. Of all times for the air conditioner in my house to die. A new unit is $6900.00. Personally, I would have bought the seat, turned on the fans, and just ran around the house in my underwear. But, with a wife and three kids, it didn't seem like a valid option. So, I sat and watched the auction run out. I didn't need that damn seat anyway!

Seriously, you're a good man. Or at least that's what I told myself that when I socked away enough money to buy a StreetFighter S into the kid's college fund. Children taste better warm. You on the other hand, are a very very bad man. This we can all agree on [laugh] Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! :( What is going to really suck is if the winner backs out and the seller sends you a second chance offer [cheeky] Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! I ended up making one. At least now I know what it might be worth, when I make up my mind to sell it ;D Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Don I am not sure if I want to say congratulations, or you suck, first. I am pretty sure it would be in the same sentence though. (I am assuming you are the new owner). Ah well, I am glad that someone here bought it so that I can at least look at it now and again. What is going to really suck is if the winner backs out and the seller sends you a second chance offer [cheeky] I doubt that happens, but you never know. Well, I guess I could ask. "He winner, you planning on backing out?" For 7G's I hope that you are getting a dual stage high efficientcy unit, both indoor and out. Yea, its one of those high efficiency, multi zone setups. It also has a juicer attachment and doubles as a karaoke machine. The really shitty part it, our house is going on the market in the next week or so. The heating and air guy offered to patch our old unit up to get through the sale, but that's just not a cool thing to do. So, I guess my new specialty in life is to do my part in providing others with cool motorcycle seats and brand spankin' new air conditioners. He never shows the underside of the tail.. I bet it's just like the one I bought, without a pin to lock it into the latch. I ended up making one. At least now I know what it might be worth, when I make up my mind to sell it ;D Don, if it happens not to have a pin, be scratched, sit crooked, or just doesn't seem to cradle your nuts exactly right. Shoot me a PM and let me know. I promise not to poke fun or laugh. I will just privately snicker while enjoying what will soon be someone elses new air conditioner. Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: junior varsity on May 06, 2010, 06:44:41 PM don't bother burying the air conditioner if its about to be somebody else's air conditioner. consider having it done at your next residence if you plan on making it a long term home. (see also: tankless water heater).
Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: zenjim on May 06, 2010, 06:52:31 PM What you can't wear shorts in the summer?
Sheesh, let's get the priorities straight. Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: psycledelic on May 06, 2010, 07:09:24 PM don't bother burying the air conditioner if its about to be somebody else's air conditioner. consider having it done at your next residence if you plan on making it a long term home. (see also: tankless water heater). Well, not sure how long it will be before it is someone elses. Our current unit is crap and not cooling the house. I think that potential buyers who come to see the house this summer might frown upon the living room that is 92 degrees. Big +1 on the tankless water heater. They kick ass. Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: junior varsity on May 06, 2010, 07:14:29 PM Likewise, if you bury your AC in the backyard a few feet under ground (and especially if you can put the appropriate labrynthe system in too) you'll have your AC always rejecting heat to a cooler ambient temperature, even when its a hot day in the summer, and in the winter, it will be warming air that's already slightly warmer than the cold winter air above ground. Great for efficiency. Big up front capital cost.
Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: weemonster on May 07, 2010, 01:57:31 AM we got one of those ground pump heat ecxhanger things. and it rocks.
I can't remember the technical name for it it was in the house when we rented it. Its like a half a mile (might be a slight exxageration) of pipe laid 6ft under the yard and driveway. 6ft under the ground is the same temp all year round.(most places) Theres a pump in the house that sucks in the air from outside.and puts it through the central air system. saves cooling in the summer and heat in the winter. Means you can install a much smaller cold air unit. like i said tho it was in our house when we moved in so i have no idea what it costs. i'm guessing tho that if you have a spade you can bury the pipes yourelf. ;o) Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: junior varsity on May 07, 2010, 03:26:14 AM haha. Sure you could, but what's the time-cost of that?
They really do rock - I'm not really a "green" mentality guy, but I do like the prospect of saving $ over the long run... Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: Spidey on May 07, 2010, 06:57:18 AM Air conditioners aside, I feel your pain. Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: Drunken Monkey on May 07, 2010, 07:00:21 AM Way back in the day my father worked on the designs for some of these early heat pumps (it's either pumping heat in or out of your house) and I was amazed how efficient these are.
Everyone who doesn't live so far North the ground is permanently frozen or in an area where the temperature doesn't vary much should look into one of these. ... found myself hoping my kids end up retarded so that I can spend their socked-away "go-git-yerself-smart" money on racing. Simple, sell one to pay for the smart one's college. How much for the leetle girl? How much for your women? I wish to buy your women! Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Had you not chimed in, this would have been an air conditioner thread, DrunkMonk would have moved to No Moto Content, and we would have never known the true commitment that Spidey had for his children, I was at the AFM races the other weekend, and found myself hoping my kids end up retarded so that I can spend their socked-away "go-git-yerself-smart" money on racing. ;D [moto] By the way, I am screwed on that end. My wife dumped all of the kids to college funds into one of those tax free, has to be used for college, funds...scams...funds. Which pretty much insures that none of my kids will decide to go to college and , in order to not lose the money, I will be a 61 year old pottery major at the local community college. Luckily, I will be a cool 61 year old freshman rolling into class on my 27 year old Ducati Monster. Well, until the day that I pull into the parking lot and some punk kid says, "Nice bike Pops, but that sure is a shitty seat." At which point I will mutter, under my breath, while holding in my false teeth, "Damn you, Don"! ;D Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! That's the statement that still stands?
Now . . . should we get back to avoiding being responsible adults or do you want to have long, stupid internet argument about a silly joke? Personally, I'm feel like being a dick this morning (in part cuz SPOILER lately Haga can't ride a motorcycle to save his life), so I vote for an argument. What do you wanna do? Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! That's the statement that still stands? Where did I say, much less suggest, you deserved to have retarded children? Now . . . should we get back to avoiding being responsible adults or do you want to have long, stupid internet argument about a silly joke? Personally, I'm feel like being a dick this morning (in part cuz SPOILER lately Haga can't ride a motorcycle to save his life), so I vote for an argument. What do you wanna do? No one deserves that. I just find your 'silly joke' anything but funny, which is all I said. Nothing to argue about. Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS! Warning: Grown Man Pouting Post by: Spidey on May 08, 2010, 08:17:56 AM Nothing to argue about. The content of your post suggests otherwise. You even asked me a question. Argument it is then. Let's make sure we follow the ground rules of internet disputes. I'll just keep going until I get the last word, until you decide your moralizing interjection has taken the thread off topic and it's better to just lock it, until I get a time-out, or until someone gets compared to Hitler. Sound good? Then let's go for it. [thumbsup] Where did I say, much less suggest, you deserved to have retarded children? Uh, when you said to be careful of what you wish for. Come on, don't play dense. But if I misinterpreted what you meant, then you're getting a bit of your own medicine -- an over-sensitive reaction to an otherwise throw-away comment in an internet post. Because if your Victorian sensibilities are offended by my joke, then you're going to have to be prepared to have an equally thin-skinned response. It's only fair. That said, in truth, I wasn't even remotely offended by your comment but since you wanted to pick a fight, I'm only happy to oblige. As for saying that you didn't find my joke funny, curiously you didn't say that. I suspect that you wouldn't have wasted the time to post "I don't find that funny." Instead, you posted something entirely different, and you posted it publicly. You could have avoided an argument by either ignoring my post or sending me a PM. But instead you chose to pick a fight when you knew I'd respond. Are you hoping that it would/will escalate? Or do you want to be the responsible adult here and just let it go? Clearly, I'm not planning on taking on that role. ;D Your turn. [laugh] Title: Re: Being a Responsible Adult Really SUCKS!
