don't bother burying the air conditioner if its about to be somebody else's air conditioner. consider having it done at your next residence if you plan on making it a long term home. (see also: tankless water heater).

Well, not sure how long it will be before it is someone elses.  Our current unit is crap and not cooling the house.  I think that potential buyers who come to see the house this summer might frown upon the living room that is 92 degrees.
Big +1 on the tankless water heater.  They kick ass.

Likewise, if you bury your AC in the backyard a few feet under ground (and especially if you can put the appropriate labrynthe system in too) you'll have your AC always rejecting heat to a cooler ambient temperature, even when its a hot day in the summer, and in the winter, it will be warming air that's already slightly warmer than the cold winter air above ground. Great for efficiency. Big up front capital cost.

weemonster

we got one of those ground pump heat ecxhanger things. and it rocks.
I can't remember the technical name for it it was in the house when we rented it.

Its like a half a mile (might be a slight exxageration) of pipe laid 6ft under the yard and driveway.

6ft under the ground is the same temp all year round.(most places)

Theres a pump in the house that sucks in the air from outside.and puts it through the central air system.

saves cooling in the summer and heat in the winter.
Means you can install a much smaller cold air unit.

like i said tho it was in our house when we moved in so i have no idea what it costs.

i'm guessing tho that if you have a spade you can bury the pipes yourelf. ;o)

junior varsity

haha. Sure you could, but what's the time-cost of that?

They really do rock - I'm not really a "green" mentality guy, but I do like the prospect of saving $ over the long run...

Air conditioners aside, I feel your pain.  I was at the AFM races the other weekend, and found myself hoping my kids end up retarded so that I can spend their socked-away "go-git-yerself-smart" money on racing.   ;D

Way back in the day my father worked on the designs for some of these early heat pumps (it's either pumping heat in or out of your house) and I was amazed how efficient these are.

Everyone who doesn't live so far North the ground is permanently frozen or in an area where the temperature doesn't vary much should look into one of these.

Simple, sell one to pay for the smart one's college.

How much for the leetle girl? How much for your women? I wish to buy your women!
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

I am not sure if I want to say congratulations, or you suck, first.  I am pretty sure it would be in the same sentence though.  (I am assuming you are the new owner).  Ah well,  I am glad that someone here bought it so that I can at least look at it now and again.

I doubt that happens, but you never know.  Well, I guess I could ask.  "He winner, you planning on backing out?"

Don, if it happens not to have a pin, be scratched, sit crooked, or just doesn't seem to cradle your nuts exactly right.  Shoot me a PM and let me know.  I promise not to poke fun or laugh.  I will just privately snicker while enjoying what will soon be someone elses new air conditioner.

In hindsight I should of kept my mouth shut, sorry mate. And the seller is sending the pin in a separate box, if its not what I'm looking for Ill give you first notice.

Hell no man.  Not keeping our mouths shut is what makes this site so much fun.  Had you not chimed in, this would have been an air conditioner thread, DrunkMonk would have moved to No Moto Content, and we would have never known the true commitment that Spidey had for his children,

By the way, I am screwed on that end.  My wife dumped all of the kids to college funds into one of those tax free, has to be used for college, funds...scams...funds.  Which pretty much insures that none of my kids will decide to go to college and , in order to not lose the money, I will be a 61 year old pottery major at the local community college.  Luckily, I will be a cool 61 year old freshman rolling into class on my 27 year old Ducati Monster.  Well, until the day that I pull into the parking lot and some punk kid says, "Nice bike Pops, but that sure is a shitty seat."  At which point I will mutter, under my breath, while holding in my false teeth, "Damn you, Don"! ;D

Spidey, you always have the just right thing to say.  I shall now edit my previous post to reflect my newfound, positive attitude:

That works much better!

Careful what you wish for. ;)

There are some statements that are tasteless regardless how many smileys you use.
"Once you accept that a child on the autistic spectrum experiences the world in
a completely different way than you, you will be open to understand how that
 perspective
is even more amazing than yours."
To realize the value of nine  months:
Ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.
"Don't piss off old people The older we get, the less 'Life in Prison' is a deterrent."

Fixed it for you.  ;)

Oh, you mean the statement where--despite your use of smileys--you first suggested that I deserve to have retarded children, and then followed up by suggesting it was tasteless for someone to wish that children end up retarded?  That's the statement that still stands?

Now . . . should we get back to avoiding being responsible adults or do you want to have long, stupid internet argument about a silly joke?  Personally, I'm feel like being a dick this morning (in part cuz SPOILER lately Haga can't ride a motorcycle to save his life), so I vote for an argument.  What do you wanna do?

Where did I say, much less suggest, you deserved to have retarded children?

No one deserves that. I just find your 'silly joke' anything but funny, which is all I said.

Nothing to argue about.
