Title: i did it again...
Post by: KnightofNi on May 10, 2010, 07:20:49 PM
only this time i didn't just walk away.

i was checking traffic to the right and whent i looked back fwd the guy in front of me was standing on the brakes. couldn't get outside of him and thpose lovely brembos assisted me in going ass over. the bike landed on top of me. i have a broken collarbone and very badly bruised ribs w/ possible cracked cartledge. will see about getting the bike tomorrow.

right now i want my make the beast with two backsing pain meds to get here. i will heal.

and it was a fun 2 weeks being back on the monster. [bang]
i think that is one of the 2 thiungs that bother me most.

i'll post up more later when i see the bike.

and yes it was my fault. i took my eyes off of what was in front of me and didn't have enough of an escape route.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I have often found myself doing the same sort of thing. Checking right, but taking eyes off the car in front without enough time to decision. But it is one of those things I still do.

Heal up with that collar bone. I hear that is a mothermake the beast with two backser and hope you get your medicine soon for relief.

Be safe and  [beer] to a speedy recovery

tini, i will take the handlebars.

adam, i'll take the mirrors.

both of you let me know how much shipping is.

i got the bike back and got to take a closer look. the beer tray has rash on the top of it  :o

i need to add to the list
front brake reservoir
turn signal
the hanger for the right can got ripped. i think the can will be ok, but the hanger is pretty much shot.

i also seemt o have lost the bolts that attach to the pipes to the hangers.  ???

i may need a new seat and beer tray, but i haven't tried to take mine off yet, so i can't tell if the seat tray is broken of if it's just plastic from the beer tray/taillight assembly.
there may be other damage that i haven't found yet since i am not ready physically to start tearing it apart and checking things for straightness.

thanks again to everyone. i love you all.

Hey Trav, really sorry to hear about this but Mrs ML and I are both glad you're ok [thumbsup]

I wish I had some parts to send to you but all I have are 900ss leftovers.

Also, if you have full coverage insurance the check should come to you to spend where and how you wish.

Get on bike bandit and make a list of parts you need along with pricing and part numbers. Turn that into your insurance (who do you have?)

when I made a claim with state farm that's what I did. The sent a lady out in a van and she took my list and turned it into a check.

Here's to a fast heal my friend [drink]

Clavicle breaks SUCK. Hang in these though it can only get better right??

Shattered mine 2 years ago, still have the plate and 7 screws in there. Are you wearing one of those figure-8 braces to keep your shoulders back or getting surgery?

The insurance company pays you for your loss, you can do the repairs yourself and keep the difference.  Your bike will be a total loss from the damage you describe, which means you would be buying the bike back salvage.  This can be avoided by asking the adjuster to write the bike up for a few dollars short of total loss.  Adjusters don't like doing this because there is the risk of the client asking for more money later.

Looks very similar to the break I had 2 years back. You will not regret the surgery, I was up and walking, operating within 48 hours and could hold a gallon of milk after a month. Basically after 8 months of being a baby I began to weight train again. My doc cleared me after 6 months but I was being conservative. Just today I repped 455 for dead lift so It definitely healed up strong. Make sure they cut you vertically, a horizontal scar will not heal as well or be as attractive. After about 1.5 years my scar is nearly totally faded and worn away.

Good luck be strong.

Sorry to hear about your most unfortunate accident.

I've come close too many times to rear ending cagers just because I don't ride in cities or towns hardly at all and when I do I get anxious and have a tendency to want to get where I'm going and then get the hell back in the country.

I have had 2 broken Collar Bones . One from Wrestling in High School and the other from a tumble while Motocross racing .

Good luck healin' up . Hope you do better with it than I did.

so i got a call from the state trooper who investigated the accident tonight.

he was very apologetic and said that if there is damage and everyone gets called in to assist like that then they have to issue a citation.  >:(

not sure what it's going to be for, but he said that he sees no reason that i should have to pay a ticket when i did my part and avoided hitting other people and i wasn't riding like a jackass. he was also impressed that i have been bike onl;y for this long, lol.
he told me that i should plead non guilty and go to the hearing and he would drop the ticket. it's nice that he was so cool about it and is helping me out like this.

so heads up...if you get iunto an accident in PA, even if it's only 1 vehicle, you will get a ticket. talk to the trooper if you can and see if they can help you out.

It's a Chinese buffet place at a strip mall, nothing fancy but there's not that many great options for me in the immediate area (mostly I just go to a supermarket and buy food).  They have some really greasy food, some fairly normal entrees, and then some healthy salad options.

What kind of frame damage?

Just because the ins co totals it doesn't mean that the bike is junk...just that they don't want to pay to fix it as the retail cost of parts exceeds the 'value'.

Any pics of said damage?

did mine and didn't seem to make much difference in the rain...at least not to me.
everyone was complaining about the 15 ft high rooster tails that Greg and I were making though.

Why go thru the trouble of getting a new frame for a cracked weld?

Why not just...

Won't that be the case if you take the insurance money and buy it back?

trav,

what about all the money you've put into the 'wrecked' bike? buy it back and get a new frame and just, transaplant the whole thing into the new frame.

I have no idea how much you've got invested in your bike, but, if I had the easiness of getting a new frame and redoing my bike again if an accident put it as a wreck, I'd do it.
You're in the US, it's should be easier for you to 'transplant/rebuild/build' a 'new' bike...

Just saying, at the end of the day it's you and your pillow the ones who decide...Get well soon and start wrenching...

But the insurance company would have to reduce the amount of payment to below a total loss.

You'll be out of pocket for more.

i'm waiting on numbers right now.

from what i was just told the amt i would get back is only going to be around $500 less than the total payout.
once i get the numbers i'll make the final descision.

however, i think i'm going to buy a new frame and buy it back.

I bought a salvage Monster in either MD or PA, I can't remember which, and had no problem registering it in ME.

I never did it myself but I looked into doing it with a salvage ss frame I had.

Basically you need to repair the bike to a condition that would pass a normal PA inspection.

You then need to have an enhanced inspection done. Your local inspection station can tell you where to have that done. You might luck out and your inspec station can also do the enhanced one.

Then you need a regular PA inspection.

There's some paperwork of course. You'll need to be able to prove the parts you used are not stolen and not from another salvage bike.

It's a do able process. Lots of people go through the process of turning a salvage title into an R title (reconstructed)

you just have to figure out if it's worth your time and energy to go through the process.

Or just spend money and call it a day.

yay, i get to keep my monster!  [moto]

i'm so happy right now.  ;D
i started to do a happy dance, but my ribs still hurt, lol

and i'll even have some money for a new frame or to get it repaired and to buy new gear, after i put money towards the car!

so umm, if any of the offers for parts still stands I'll take them!  :-\
just PM me how I should repay you and as soon as the collarbone heals enough to wrench properly i'll get the monster back up!
