Title: Boom Tubes On Post by: zenjim on May 16, 2010, 02:30:43 PM Finally got some Boom Tubes to replace the Arrows destroyed when I got rear-ended. I got the ones that have some baffle in them and are not loud comparatively to other Boom Tubes. Apparently the ones with no baffle will cause miscarriages from 2 blocks away. Having said that, they still set off car alarms and are very loud, but you hardly notice once you get past 90 mph. [laugh]
One of the cool things about these is that it will allow me to add some saddle bags for the long trips. Couldn't before with the tail chop and shotgun pipes. Also, 80% of my commute is lane splitting, and at slow speeds, people hear you and get out of the way. I know when I was thinking about this I couldn't get enough pics, so here she is: (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/4613713882_0f1e2915e0_o.jpg) (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/4613713952_67b9161a9d_o.jpg) (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/4613714002_2f21248db9_o.jpg) That's my girlfriend's Ninja 500 in the background. She took her first road trip today! And the Gixxer 600 is under wraps behind that. Title: Re: Boom Tubes On Post by: IZ on May 16, 2010, 02:33:56 PM [thumbsup]

looking good man! how loud is it compared to udder? The stock exahust pushes the gas backward and i dont hear anything but my dry clutch and intake. which by itself is really loud Title: Re: Boom Tubes On Post by: uglyducky on May 16, 2010, 03:41:15 PM those look amazing i too would love to hear em [thumbsup]

Try working on a 1480 Kawasaki pro stock drag bike with straight through Kerker exhaust. You will know what loud is. It was ear splitting loud to the point where you ears and throat hurt from the reverberations of the thing at 6k It would rev to about 15k. L O U D E S T P I P E S E V E R . I loved it! [laugh]

I recently was singing it's praises when I took it for a nice long ride. Unbelievably fun! I may be putting my Duc in a video for my band in which case I'll probably use some nice mics to get the Booms on tape. Or hard disk I guess nowadays. If I do, I'll post. [laugh] i was working in a generator room once this massive backup diesel power generator. I dont know how loud it was, but i was wearing earplugs underneath earmuffs, and it was still loud as make the beast with two backs. it was a huge straight 6 engine. I think it was someting along 20liters or something. the engine it self was about 10 foot tall and 20 foot long. (it belonged to a hospital). You got stomach aches just from being around it too long. Needless to say it was cool as shit. too bad it doenst go anywhere. lol Title: Re: Boom Tubes On Post by: Raux on May 18, 2010, 06:17:05 AM Mark sells them in 4 configurations; quiet (same as stock), normal (what I got - 91 db @ idle, from 108-109 db running), loud, and insane (125 dbs!). There are a number of videos on youtube but I don't see a side by side comparison (Stock/after market vs. boom tubes). Since the sound level differ from video to video, it's really hard to gauge...
Maybe I can just stop by the shop. It's just 20 miles away. Maybe I can just stop by the shop. It's just 20 miles away. I don't have any comparison sound clips (looking back, I wish I would have made them), but I have had a couple of different exhaust configurations on my bike and, hands down, Mark's boomtubes (or in my case, BoomTublets) sound, look the best (for me at least). I started with the stock exhaust - pretty much sucks Then Termignoni slip-ons w/ DP headers (no db killers)- much better then stock. Loud, but a muffled sound. I ran the stock udder while Mark had my headers - Had I known that that the udder sounded that good, I would have never dropped the cash on the Termis. (Not that the Termis didn't have a better sound, but not $1500 better) Finally, I have my DP headers that Mark mated short baffled extensions to. Loud and has a lot of "thump". Exactly what I wanted. I would say that the boomtubes, with the "loud" baffling would compare to the noise level of the udder by itself, but the sound of the Boomtubes (or my Boomtublets, at least) is much cleaner and have a better growl on decel. Thanks Psycledelic. I appreciate your feedback. So I can safely assume that the loud setting on the boomtubes would be comparible to udder alone (no buffing). The other settings would be somewhere in between stock and udder. I personally think having the udder alone is just way too loud...I started with the stock exhaust - pretty much sucks Then Termignoni slip-ons w/ DP headers (no db killers)- much better then stock. I think there are baffels in them but they look just like you described. Like piping. I guess I am in the minority most like them, I like Termi and most dont!!!Title: Re: Boom Tubes On Post by: psycledelic on May 22, 2010, 07:16:42 AM Thanks Psycledelic. I appreciate your feedback. I personally think having the udder alone is just way too loud... I thought the udder sounded good, but kind of "hollow" at idle. My exhaust from Mark has a sharp and decisive, V-twin (or L-twin, I guess) thump to it. It does a good job of turning heads when I roll through town. There are baffles in there. You can choose the level of aural assault you prefer. I'm no welder. If you just weld on some piping, you will cause spontaneous abortions 2 blocks away. Look prettier. Title: Re: Boom Tubes On Post by: MonsterTom on May 26, 2010, 03:28:07 PM Hey Zenjim, Do you notice a big difference in a$$ temp? As I was sitting in traffic this afternoon in 95 degree weather, I was thinking it might be nice to not have the underseat exhaust adding to the discomfort. I would think the boomtubes would make a big difference.

But on cold mornings I do kick my right leg back a bit and let the pipes warm it. |
