Title: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on May 26, 2010, 05:11:50 AM Hey all...so not the most mechanically inclined person and since this ducati is new to me I dont want to start cutting into the pipes even with the plethora of posts on the subject. Anyone willing to do it for me in the Ohio region? I'll buy ya a 6 pack!
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: cyrus buelton on May 26, 2010, 05:14:31 AM I'd be glad to help you out, but my mechanical skills are pretty weak and I am not sure what you are asking.
Metallimonster will gladly do it for you. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] Are you looking to cut your pipes to a shorter length? You will find a plethora of people in Columbus who own ducati's at: www.desmohio.com (http://) (http://) (http://) I am sure someone there will be willing to help for a few beers or just meeting a new club member! (not sure if you are involved with Desmohio yet or not, but you should be. Great group of people) Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: metallimonster on May 26, 2010, 06:07:33 AM I doubt I would be willing to cut and core your pipes if that is what you're looking for. I would gladly help you install new ones or do any regular maintenance stuff.
Shoot me a pm if your down for a ride. I know a lot of good roads in the area. Maybe Cyrus, You, and I can hit up a Desmohio event soon. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: Grampa on May 26, 2010, 06:09:49 AM FYI....JudDDDddddDdddd will bill you

Just thought I'd volunteer you since I am giving you a $3,000 grill for free tonight ;D I can also help with pipe installation. I've done low and high amounts, along with installing a new header, which is a motherfuker and a half. FYI....JudDDDddddDdddd will bill you incorrect sir. I do not charge to help. Just like a neighbor; Jud is there. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: metallimonster on May 26, 2010, 07:57:00 AM Still wondering what exactly you want to do with it. Core the pipes and shorten them or what?
I'll watch and give some tips but no way am I taking a hacksaw to another man's pipes. Where abouts in Cbus are you? Do you have a garage to do it in? Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: velocipede on May 26, 2010, 08:46:33 AM FWIW I'd recommend just coring the third chamber at first, just to see how you like the sound. I did that on my 620, and I thought it sounded great. I've got an MTS 620 now with baffled Termis, and I think it sounds very similar to my old Monster. I commute every morning I can, so any louder would have been a bit too much, I think. And if you're looking for riding partners in the C-Bus, pm me [beer] -David
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on May 26, 2010, 09:00:38 AM haha I understand. I am downtown. Yes I have a garage but not all of the tools for the job. I am just looking to remove the 2nd chamber to give it a better sound. Ill hit you up velocipede.Where are you located man? ..and werent you the guy who had a friend of a friend selling an s2r 1000? or am I mistaken?
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: metallimonster on May 26, 2010, 09:17:15 AM I probably have most of the tools you would need and we can do it at your place.
I was a mechanic for a few years and can use my hands pretty well. I guess I would be willing to give it a shot as long as you know ahead of time that it might not come out perfect. I work downtown and am willing to ride anytime. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on May 26, 2010, 10:23:10 AM Good deal man. I am picking it up this friday. Appreciate the offer and I would be willing to give it a shot. I'll let you know when. Are you attending the motohio ride on sat? It is for the nationwide childrens benefit downtown.
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: cyrus buelton on May 26, 2010, 10:56:51 AM So you are replacing the stock header with the udder with an aftermarket one?
I did that mod on my S4r so I can definitely do it for you or show you how to do it. Doesn't matter. Either way, it is a make the beast with two backsing pain in the ass. I think I still have some exhaust silicone I used on the vertical connection as I couldn't get it to fit properly without leaking. Tools for this job are basic. A couple of metric hex heads and a metric socket set. I can't help this weekend as I am going to the race in Indy, but the following weekend I am free. Where did you source the new header pipe from? Can a mod move this to Accessories and Mods for us? Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: velocipede on May 27, 2010, 03:34:53 AM haha I understand. I am downtown. Cool, I'm really close to downtown, myself...little neighborhood called Old Oaks, just south of Old Town (Livington and Parsons area). If you see a red GT1000 or a black 620 MTS around downtown, it's probably me. Yeah, I'm the guy with the friend-of-a-friend. I think it's still for sale, if you're interested, but I'm guessing they're not in a big rush, so they may take a while to get back to you. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on June 02, 2010, 05:45:56 AM Cool I will keep an eye out. That is NICE bike. I just picked mine up on fri...06 red s2r 800. To cyrus...just trying to core the exhaust until I can afford an aftermarket...thanks for the offer though.

Nice ride [thumbsup] replacing that god awful udder will probably open your sound up nicely. I should have a header for you in 1-2 months off my 2004 S4r (it will fit your bike) as I am getting some work done and need pipes will most likely need to be fabricated to work with what is being done. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: cyrus buelton on June 02, 2010, 05:49:38 AM by the way, go poke your head in at www.desmohio.com (http://)
You'll find some very mechanical people that work for beer. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on June 02, 2010, 10:10:03 AM Deal! Yea i love this bike man. Put 500 miles on it since fri. With replacin gthe udder...wont you lose some midrange due to loss of back pressure? Would you also have to reprogram the ecu to adjust for it being to lean? Yea I will have to post in desmohio soon...
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: cyrus buelton on June 02, 2010, 11:07:40 AM Deal! Yea i love this bike man. Put 500 miles on it since fri. Yea I will have to post in desmohio soon... Yeah, if you replace the midpipe you will give more outflow, so yes.....it will make the bike leaner. Also, if you put new cans on.......it will due the same thing. I'd wait to do them both at the same time and then get yourself a PCIII and then take your bike up to JD Hord (www.hordpower.com (http://)). He is located in Bucyrus, an hour north on 23. He has a dyno in his garage (he is an indy mechanic that is damn make the beast with two backsing good. When Larry Pegram needed help punching out a 749 motor to the 848.........he took it to JD as he has done it many times before) and his labor rate is 40$ an hour. I recommend all your service be done by JD. A bunch of us use him and he is a cool guy to boot. He is a former battle of the twins champion; he raced night hawks after he got sick of being a commodities broker in Chicago....... He does all the major service on my bikes and I couldn't be more pleased with his shop rates and most importantly........the quality of work. He won't fix anything that doesn't need to be fixed. He also bills to the 1/4 hour, which is nice. Just beware that he tunes bikes on his dyno like a race bike...........it will suck fuel like a mofo. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: DoubleEagle on June 02, 2010, 06:49:05 PM Jud,
J.D. is just an hour N. on 23 ??? At what speed are you calculating that and from where ? How far ahead would you guess he is this time of year ? Dolph :) Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: metallimonster on June 03, 2010, 02:36:25 AM He's calculating it from Dublin or North C-bus. Takes me about an hour flat to get there from Westerville.
+1 on Hord. I am so glad CB filled me in on him. Does awesome work for way cheap. I would not go to Motohio, they always seem to suck everytime I go there. I would not go to Motohio, they always seem to suck everytime I go there. Just throwing in my 2 cents for Hordpower. Just had my 15,000 valve adjustment/belt change done by him for less than $400. Cool guy, knows his stuff, and will actually give you some tips for simple fixes to try before brining it in...just wish his shop was closer! As far as Motohio...they've made some changes recently that have improved my perception of their service, and their mechanics are good guys, but still too much $$$...they do seem to have decent stock of parts, though. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: cyrus buelton on June 03, 2010, 05:50:13 AM Yeah, I am calculating it from where I live.
I pretty much just take Riverside Drive up to 42, in to Delaware and hop on 23. Takes about an hour. JD does rock. I email him from time to time when I am working on my bike and have a question or notice something different. He always gives me advice on it. It's a DMF Tech Board, but an actual shop. I would compare him to how DucStew has helped me out. A LOT!!!! Once my S4r gets put back together, it is going up to JD's for Dyno time. I already had him install a PCIII and a custom map (I think with the PCIII, my bill was less than 425$. His Dyno rate is still 40$ an hour for an independent cylinder map) on that bike, but once I get it back from getting the new engine cases, blueprinted cams, and switching to pod filters and ridding the air box.........it's gonna need a map again. JD gets the business on that! He'll also get my M750 for belts and valves too. I'd email him and see how busy he is right now and wait time. He is very easy to work with on drop off and delivery. Tell him Jud sent you. No, I don't get any kickbacks or discounts, he just likes to know when a happy customer refers a new one to him. I think he keeps track so he can not have to advertise. We've had some long talks about his business and why he doesn't advertise and what not. He basically says he has no need because word of mouth of his work is all it takes to get a new customer in his shop. Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: adamld83 on June 03, 2010, 06:32:33 AM Man I will have to look this guy up in the future!!..thanks guys. I went to motohio this past wknd and have to say my experience was pretty good. The head mech took the time to explain alot of the intracacies of the bike and write out a page of instructions on how to manually mess with the ecu as far as warning lights and such. Only problem...160 for fluids change/flush..ouch. We will all have to hook up for a ride one of these days....
Title: Re: Mechanically inclined person in columbus, oH?? Post by: metallimonster on June 03, 2010, 08:18:56 AM I'm down whenever.
Hit me up on PM for my cell. Also, if you're in to Disc Golf I go a lot. Nice courses in Cbus. |
